Friend of mine who's an owner op just had a level 3. The inspector loosened his pigtail then wrote him up for lights not working. When he checked the pigtail, he saw it wasn't in all the way. So he pushed it back in and showed inspector they are working. Inspector said well they weren't working during the inspection. So, no it's not just people who don't take care of their rig who should worry.

I ran with the cabover Freightliner that pulled the Popeyes off shore racing boat around the country one night. He had a 8V92 with 6" straights and I fell in love with that sound. I can still hear it now when I think about it.

I like your videos.I drove trucks and was involved with transportation for 60+ years. I ran a lot of the roads that you show in the eastern half of the country. Almost all of the equipment was not computerized until the last 3-4 years before retirement. Ran Gas, Detroit, Cummins, Cat, Mack and Volvo engines. Transmissions: 5 sp, 5 & 2 sp. axle, 9 and 10 sp., 12 sp. Spicer, 5 x 2, 5 x 3 (2 sticks), full automatic, 3 pedal auto-shift, 2 pedal auto-shift.

I'd put that V12 Detroit in a longnose w9 a model with a 290 wheelbase. I would paint it candy apple red. I always park the truck during their blitz stupidity. There's always things you can do to the truck when you got time off.

Tires can be sectioned, major hole repair depending on the location on the casing. Black screen? LP-24.5? I use to take care of a Bandag retread shop, 7 tire stores and a fleet of tire repair trucks, OTR also.

Well my take on the guy riding the motorcycle was a tad different than yours FSC. Another great video. Ya I like the talk on the V-12. Blitz time means time for a break. Why play into there hands. But then some drivers are to lax on the maintenance of there truck and trailer. Loved doing wide loads. It kept it interesting. Three days parked in Orwell for me would have not been fun. Spent many a mile in COE’s. Never was lucky enough to run a flat floor. I did like driving COE’s. Well glad you got a load out of there. Have a great and a safe day.?Happy trails and happy motoring.

A few years ago I had the chance to ride on a train through the Horseshoe curve pulled by Fort Wayne’s 765 Nickel Plate Road steam engine. It was a Norfolk and Southern employee appreciation ride. It was really cool seeing and hearing that big steam engine working hard pulling the hill through the curve. Your next video should be the one I saw you driving westbound on 70 as I was driving eastbound through Washington PA. Hopefully I can spot myself.

Hi Steve Don't knock the "Sumo " tyres mate I used to run East To West coast return in a LTL Ford fitted with a 3406 CAT 400 hp mated to RTO 15 R R with Rockwell 40s x 3.9 ratio bogie drive ,45ft Fruehauf tri-axle gross weight 87000 pound both ways , had problems with the steer tyres , went to "Michy" tyers on 8x1/4 rims with a wheel alignment same problem ,went to 9 inch rims still the same I was talking to the tyre man on the west coast about the tyre ware with the "Michlins" he said try the "Sumo" tyres , I've got to say this is a hell of story to recommend a brand of tyre but I guess it was the only way I know how to explain I wasn't getting the miles out of the so called good tyres and "Sumo" tyres made the difference "aye" cheers "RB" Albury "downunder"

Keep Orwell as a hauler as it is. I wouldn’t put that “clip in” setup that pulls out of the rear of the truck frame. That is designed for a single axle truck with leaf spring suspension. Stretch Orwell for a pusher? If I did, it would be stretched about 60”, and have a Watson & Chalin AL2200 non-steer 20k auxiliary. Otherwise, keep hauling!

That was the best rolling coal Ive ever seen Orwell spit out. Im with you buddy, I'll only drive mechanical naturally aspirated cars. I thought about getting a new car for the wife of a particular brand but all they make are Hybrids so not going to do it now. Will wait for everyone to come to their senses. Have a Harley at home and have never done that shit on the motorway. If theres no one around I'll fang it, but not like that. Wonder if the APU could be fitted with a belt-driven air compressor so the APU could charge the truck's air tanks so you when you're ready to go, you can just fire up the truck and go. Would also serve as a backup to the truck's air compressor if it failed.

Just remember those new railroad tracks can also be used to export American made big things. Like American made locomotives by EMD(now Progress Rail/Caterpillar) or GE Transportation (now Wabtec). Or electrical transmission equipment. High value technology equipment to Africa/Australia. At least the state of Maryland is putting money into their port, unlike CSX.

If you add a jeep then you have to have doubles & triples endorsement on your CDL. I have a four axle tractor three axle lowboy and a single axle booster which can be set up as a fourth flip axle. If I have as a booster it requires doubles & triples endorsement. Set up as a flip then reg class A covers it.. doesn't make much sense

What are you going to do for the long term if Michelin discontinues your model of tire? Looks like you will have to look at a whole new model of tire for your Orwell.

Well look at that another driver in the same lot doing an actual Pre-Trip. I hardly witness it anymore. Many of my coworkers don’t. I tell them the truck did well on my run and if there is anything to be aware of. They take that info as their pre trip, we switch out and they go. If they have to transfer logs to an inspector they only have a minute or 2 on duty before driving and they aren’t going to go with that. We can also be audited and they’ll get ‘em there. It’s their problem, but seriously… it’s not a big deal to look over you equipment daily. These things do a lot of miles per day and things can change quick.

Several companies used "Joe Dogs" to make a tandem out of a single axle tractor for weight purposes. They essentially added an axle....non driven, dead axle. You were allowed 34K on a tandem most states, 20K on a single axle. We had them at Roadway and they were manufactured by Overhead Door Co at first. Ours were called Jiff-Lox. The Jiff-Lox attached to the tractor frame with a pintle hook-type device to hold it in place. The tractor frame was equipped to receive the Jiff with same height and width frame rails. We had to slide our tractor fifth wheel to the front of the frame rail, almost against the cab. Then we had to slide the fifth wheel on the Jiff onto the tractor frame because the pintle hook device was cast and wouldn't be strong enough to pull a loaded trailer in some cases. There were four hardened steel pins on each rail for each fifth wheel which dropped into corresponding holes on the frame rails. There were air and electric connections in the tractor frame so you had lights and brakes on the Jiff. You could really get dirty and greasy messing with those converters. When disconnected from the tractor, they were the converter dolly used between two pups for doubles or in some states, triples. Ours did not have air ride and a "Jiffed up" tractor rode especially rough. Overnite called theirs "Kwik Locs." Here's a link to a short instructional video made by Overnite and found on KZbin. Illinois State Police were pickin' off trucks lefr and right coming up I-57 yesterday , I got off on I-64 and made a beeline for Indiana. I just wanted out of that communist state. I know it's a blitz, but that was ridiculous.

It's legal for motorcyclists to split lanes in many states. Not sure where you are or if it's legal there, but even in the biggest nanny state of them all, California what that rider was doing was perfectly legal provided of course that he wasn't exceeding the speed limit, but that's a different issue. Big fan of the detroit diesels here. If you're considering doing a project will look forward to see it's progress. The wet road makes me think of movies. Notice they wet down the roads when they shoot the film. It's to keep contaminants out of the air which blur the shots..
