I felt sorry for Donna really. All she wanted was somewhere to belong and someone to love. I can only imagine how being Adopted and not knowing your biological family can affect you. It's sad really

Donna was so unpopular that a Whodunnit storyline would have been amazing, with everyone - except Dot - a suspect. That would have really gripped the nation.

Eastenders never used to do that kind of plot driven sensational story: it was more rooted in reality in the beginning. Characters like Donna were just left to their miserable demise and not made a big deal of by the characters. Now you would have an exaggerated whodunit.

Donna was a cunning troublemaker who caused a whole lot of drama during her time on the show. She lied, used and manipulated people to get what she wanted and in the process caused a great deal of damage. Not surprising why so many people chose to distance themselves from her. Yet despite this, there was a tragic undercurrent where you did feel sorry for her even if she brought a large amount of problems onto herself. Making her death a sad but unavoidable one. It would have been interesting if the writers had kept her on the show and taken the character down a different path towards rehab and redemption and perhaps ultimately build a bridge between herself and Kathy but it just wasn't meant to be.....

@MeBenHalpin I have seen a clip where Ali grabbed her and threw her around a bit before someone stopped him. Donna started crying after that and also she got mentioned by Kathy to Wilmott Brown when they met each other again in 1992. Kathy said it was such a terrible experience for her seeing the child she had after being raped and then finding out she was dead.

@MeBenHalpin It would have done. She sounded so upset and heartbroken when she told Wilmott Brown about Donna, you could feel her pain as she let it all out. I think Donna might have said something about Sue or even slagged her off to her face for Ali to do that to her. Did Sharon actually hit her or did Michelle stop her? I'll bet Kathy was happy the first few years she spent with Phil before the booze spoilt it all.

@MeBenHalpin Yep, that's it and because of all that, he also risked losing Ben, his only child. Nice one Phil. Donna sounds like she didn't win much in the way of friends when she was in the Square. I suppose Dot was the only one who stood by her. Wonder what she was like with her. Do you remember a character called Tricia in Coronation Street? She was the sort who apparently liked to take advantage of people's good nature. Bet 'chelle was mad about the Den comment Donna made.

Kathy and Ian are very similar, very similar indeed. They both had three children; one girl and two boys (the last boy being much younger than the other two children), the girl dies when she is quite young, the middle boy lives his life and the youngest boy is locked away for murder.

@maisiedanodoo Drug overdose. She was a heroin addict. Almost nobody went to her funeral either. She was a horrible woman who blackmailed people and became a prostitute to fund her habit.
