Thank you motoroids team for making the english version....it was insightful as always Also appreciated that you acknowledged the controversy around the DOT certification.......most of the motovloggers around the world like fortnine, heroRR and ilk tell us not to trust DOT since it is an outdated means......however the part about the ISI marking was eye opening....I really hope India improves quite a bit on the safety measures taken to ensure the safety of two wheeled vehicle riders (scooters and motorcycles)

Just a suggestion, ISI standard is trust worthy. But label printed on helmet with isi mark in India are in doubt whether they really pass the isi mark test.

One point you missed is that DOT allows up to 400g to pass. Whereas ECE and Snell is about 250g. Which would you prefer? Finally, I trust Sharp the most because it’s not just pass/fail. There’s a star rating. So an ECE certified helmet might only get 1 Star or get the maximum 5 stars. They also do crash tests at multiple heights which is useful to note. The downside of Sharp is that they don’t test many helmets. For example, they don’t test adventure helmets which is what I have. My Bell Max-9 adventure MIPS is only ECE tested but I’m ok because it’s a very trustworthy brand.

I recently bought a Bell Race Star because my other Bell Mx-9 was causing me headaches. I re-measure my head and apparently my head has grown since I was in my 20’s! So an important point is to measure your head (or a friend can do it) then try on a helmet for at least an hour. If your retailer won’t let you then make sure you have the option of returning it and wear it at home to see if it’s comfortable. While it shouldn’t be too loose it also shouldn’t be too tight. I now think I’ve got the perfect helmet. I don’t trust DOT but this one is DOT and Snell 2015 plus the European version is ECE, Snell and Sharp 5 star rated. Furthermore, it fits like a glove but with no pressure points. Finally, I got it on 50% discount because the colour scheme wasn’t popular but I love it (white, yellow hi-vis and blue). Try to buy a helmet that passed multiple tests and you’re probably covered for safety. But make sure it fits, is comfortable and conspicuous.

ECE is any day safer than a DOT helmet, watch the video. Try looking at MT helmets, most of them have small cavities inside the liner to hold the Bluetooth earpieces

One thing you missed is that Snell and dot look at linear forces when testing a helmet, ece goes for rotational forces as well. Hence the randomness in the testing. Snell in fact would approve bulkier helmets because they believe that those forces are important to look at. While that helmet might fail the ece test. Just please take another look at this

Dot, isi, ese are pointless test and just makes the helmet more expensive. They originated their testing methods from 1960s for helmets in race cars. Anyways, most driving in india is under 20kmh, that's why helmet safety doesn't matter here.
