Dota 2 Hero Lore - Arc Warden & The Ancients Explained

In this episode of dota 2 hero lore, we talk about arc warden and the ancients.
Zet, the Arc Warden
Before the beginning of all, there existed a presence: a primordial mind, infinite, awesome, and set to inscrutable purpose. As the universe thundered into being, this mind was fragmented and scattered. Two among its greater fragments--who would come to be named Radiant and Dire--found themselves locked in vicious opposition, and began twisting all of creation to serve their conflict.
As war and cataclysm threatened the nascent cosmos, the will of a third fragment made itself known. Naming itself Zet, this intellect sought to resolve the disharmony and return all to perfect unity. Appalled by its kin's conflicting nature, Zet gathered the sum of its power. In a sudden flash, it overwhelmed its siblings, and fused the warring aspects into a stellar sphere before hurling them into the darkness to orbit a nondescript world. Harmony was restored, though only the barest fraction of Zet's strength remained. Setting its gaze on the prison, Zet chose to use its weakened power to serve as watchful warden until time's end. For uncounted aeons, this vigil stood.
Life flourished upon the world below, oblivious to the dangers imprisoned within the softly glowing moon, or of Zet's struggles to contain them. As the captives' eternal clash reverberated within, the surface of the prison shuddered, over time beginning to crack. Ultimately, Zet's depleted power proved insufficient to contain the breach, and at last the moon was shattered. The prison's ancient inhabitants had escaped to sow their conflict anew.
Flung to the farthest reaches by the prison's explosion, Zet was transformed by the dissonant energies of its former captives. No longer of single form and thought, its presence had become split among many--some lesser, some greater--each connected by a fleeting arc of consciousness. Struggling to suppress its own disunity, Zet sped toward the burgeoning conflict of its siblings, bending its fractured wills toward a singular conclusion: the aspects of the primordial mind must be made to reunite, or all must be destroyed lest the conflict spread further…

Radiant is about Order, Dire is about Chaos. One cannot be there without the other. Day needs night, and vice versa for example. Things will not process further in chaos, but order may (and will) become corrupted in time. As Ember would say; Balance in all things :)

I am really amazed how Valve dedicated so much and put so much effort to create the Dota 2 Lore. They even cared explaining the actual gameplay and the purpose of it. That's art.

I just feel sad and guilty whenever I read dota lores. Basically we as players are responsible for all the eternal suffering that the heroes going through.

the sad part is pa and spectre.pa became spectre after killing counless oracle enemies from diff time n space...and she start loosing her identity.... and the time when spectre destroy ancient she said "at last i can go home".....wich mean she might fullfil the oracle false promise...and she nvr got home bcause this not gonna end..

Damn that's meta as hell and strangely makes me think of Dark souls 3 and the depressing and tired atmosphere of a world that desperately wants to die which in turn all has to do with the fact that at that point Hidetaka Miyazaki had felt pressured to continue the series due it's popularity despite wanting to move on to other projects. Therefore being the genius he is he wanted to translate those feelings of being forced to continue the series into a world which also is constantly being forced to go on and on for eternity as the first flame is rekindled again and again until nothing but mere smoldering embers remain. Furthermore every age and the souls therein are recycled through the eons as they're forced to endure the same miseries and hardships like a skipping record that endlessly repeats but never truly ceases. Honestly there's a great video that does a much better job than me explaining the philosophy of dark souls 3 and I think it was called "I'm thinking of ending it all."

@@mr.nobody896 in my opinion Elder Titan is also quite tragic, he shattered the Primordial Mind, the Universe and his own soul on accident. Then, since he's just a shard of the original Elder Titan, he survived Zeus' purge of and remained the last somewhat living Titan. He still has to live with the guilt of destroying a perfect symmetrical and unified universe, while he also has only one try at fixing it, if it goes wrong it may kill him or even completely end the Universe

I feel like the radiant, dire and arc warden lore is inspired by Freud's psychoanalytic theory called the Psyche Tripartite. The Psyche (which is the human consciousness) is composed of the Id, our primal tendencies; the Superego, our conscience; and the Ego, our rational thought that keeps the Id and the Superego in check. The Dire = Id The Radiant = Superego Arc Warden = Ego

Actually it will SCARILY AMAZING for valve to make a Hero that CONFIRMS the Multiverse/Infinite/endless battle theory where it states that every game we the players made is just an alternate timeline with different heroes and scenarios etc etc But this hero not only confirmed this theory but might be the most powerful hero (lore wise) as their the only ones viewing this Dota Universe from a 7th to ♾ dimension Respective Like how we the players view the game/universe So even Weaver and Arc Warden are powerful (lore wise) they are also stuck in this fate

What about the Primordials? It seems they were the ones who made the ancients and Zet and are said to predate the universe. There was a thread in reddit saying the primordials were the old dota 2 devs like Icefrog, guinsoo, eul etc

Adding voice lines was a good idea. Tbh with heroes like arc warden that have "modified" voice, it's better if you add subtitles, so it's easier to understand what's point of the voice line. Keep up the work :D.

To be honest, literally even heroes of great willpower(heck, it also makes the closest friends fight against each other, and enemies like kunkka and tide ally with each other on the same side) cannot resist the influence of the radiant and the dire, so the end is inevitable... The part where you said the end can be avoid entirely is literally impossible, that's why every game we play, the only ending is either one of the ancients get destroyed. It's basically the Lovecraftian concept of inexorable futility. No living or dead being can ever comprehend or even seize some significant form of control in the mere presence of the Azatoth-equivalent in the dota 2 universe.

There are other heroes that can rival the Ancients in power, for example Elder Titan, he is easily more powerful than the Ancients and Zet, in his full form atleast. Right Now Titan is just a small shard of his soul because his soul shattered at the same time as the Primordial Mind did. This is also the reason why Elder Titan is still alive, while the other Titans got killed by Zeus.

Dota2~Naruto.....? - Zet the third brother ~ Zetsu - power of doubling - eyes only zet face - moon thing? - wants things to reunite Interesting the way stories are still similar across different places, or maybe not and im just making superficial connections.
