Double Double Box Joint, Step by Step Instructions, Incra Ultra Jig, DIY, Pencil Pen Holder

This is a step by step tutorial of the super stunning double double box joint! I hopes this helps you master this tricky but rewarding joint! I am using an old school Incra Ultra Jig but it works the same as an LS positioner.

Thank you! I will be sure to address problems as they come.... and they always do! Lol. I made a video about how I addressed a really stupid mistake making dovetail spline boxes. I always find creative ways to mess something up, and then I hope I come up with a creative way to repair or modify it... 😃

Looking good Lucy! I've used and been a fan of Incra for about thirty years. I have done double double box joints, but I'm known for my double double dovetail boxes. I'm in Incra's gallery as John From California. This is the first time I've seen face grain corners ... Nice touch! When you had mentioned your chip-out problem you made the same mistakes I did when I first started the double double corners. Try this: Put glue on both mating edges. Also, take "sneak-up" cuts on the edges. I usually start with 1/32" first, then move at 1/16" after. I almost have never had a chip-out after doing those two things. Keep it up, your work is beautiful.

Use a rag dampened/slightly wet with water to wipe excess glue off of your work pieces immediately after clamping to avoid sanding after the glue dries.

Hi Lucy. Very cool video. I have the newer Incra LS Positioner, router table and lift. A truly amazing and precise system. And Incra has great tech support. Question: Can you point to an Amazon link for that blue sled with the t-track and that specific Kreg clamp? Or did you say the sled was homemade ? If so, what did you use to make it (links?) ? A truly brilliant idea. I don't use the wooden clamps either, instead Dewalt squeeze clamps. I did make a backing plate that goes all the way down to the surface of the table (per Incra tech support) to avoid the bottom of the boards 'tipping' under the incra right angle fixture. But I like your idea much better :-) Thank you. Joe from So Cal. PS If only I could find a DIY girl 🙂

Hi Joe, thank you! So the set up is the kreg vise clamp. The only issue is the ones on Amazon are now the Automaxx clamp. The one I am using is the older model that you set the depth with the hand screw knob. It works great! I have one of the Automaxx clamps because I though it would be even better. But I can't get it to clamp down without shifting the top board slightly. So the kreg part is the clamp and the blue plate. The rest of the sled is just made out of plywood to match the dimensions of the original sled. I hope you find a DIY chick, but just remember that then you have to deal with a never ending need to work on projects 🤣🤣 My spouse always has a "here we you again" look everytime I say "so I have an idea!" 😂

@@thelwood ​ @The L Wood by Lucy Appreciate the response Lucy. So ok, the clamp and vise plate come together. I just called Kreg but they no longer have the older version. But no big deal. BTW ... love those 'guitar platters'. I think I will get one, having played guitar since 8th grade :-) Is there a model number on the one you have? As far as 'never ending to work on a project' .... that's me for sure :-)
