@hummingcatfish Жыл бұрын
Thank you! 😊 I've never tried a dual with honey. If you wanted to skip the alcohol, you could try a single extraction using honey, but it does need to be heated to break down the chitin in the turkey tail. I hope this helps!
@peggymazzell25069 ай бұрын
do y have to dry the turky tail before you extract with alcohol? how do u dry yours for tea?
@hummingcatfish9 ай бұрын
Hi! I dry it for alcohol tinctures, with the moisture removed, you can use more of the mushroom. For tea I use it fresh or dried. I dry mine by stringing it with a needle and thread and hanging it in a dry area. You could also put it on drying racks or on a towel (just flip them once a day). Good luck!

Why do they have to be dried?; My blended some up in the coffee grinder yesterday and made my son-in-law some tea cuz he's sick but they weren't dry. I just found them on a log in the backyard by surprise. I was so excited to find a log covered with turkey tail, especially after my daughter went to the store and bought all kinds of mushroom extracts
@hummingcatfish9 ай бұрын
@jennyanimal9046 hi Jenny! They don't have to be dried, it's just when making a tincture, the moisture is removed for better alcohol extraction. I definitely use (and prefer) fresh when making tea 😊

All I can find here is 100% alcohol 50 proof, would that work? and about vinegar what do I need the vinegar to have.
@hummingcatfish Жыл бұрын
I believe the minimum would be 40 proof (for dried items). Just keep checking for any spoilage. If you're using vinegar, make sure it's apple cider vinegar. I find that my vinegar tinctures aren't as shelf stable, so I refrigerate them. Hope this helps 😁😊
@RedneckChamp Жыл бұрын
Okay, it's a minimum of 40% or 80 proof. I hate grammar policing but I just want you all to be able to ask for the right thing at a store. Proof is double the %. They are different values or methods of measuring alcohol.
@hummingcatfish Жыл бұрын
Thank you @RedneckChamp 😊 This is good info!! I never understood the %/proof difference, but this makes it easy. I appreciate you 🙏

@@hummingcatfish What should we know about using apple cider vinegar instead of alcohol? Do we refrigerate it for the entire 4-6 weeks? Also, should we still blend with water or just keep it 100% vinegar? THANKS SO MUCH for sharing your knowledge ✌
@hummingcatfish11 ай бұрын
@beachnap I would refrigerate it the 4-6 weeks (and after it's finished also). You would do the water extraction the same as you would for the alcohol extraction method. It will last up to a year refrigerated, so make sure to check it around the 8-9 month mark. Let me know how it turns out and Happy extracting!!! 😊
