My teeth and face have always been a mess and I have a slight speech impediment because of it which didn't help with my original ambition to be an actress. Now I'm nearly 50 and my marionettes are pronounced because of my regressive chin and when I asked my dentist if anything could be done to help about a decade ago he just said 'to be honest that ship has sailed' which cut like a knife. I would assume some of that asymmetry would eventually be corrected when she begins to build more muscle evenly post-op, correct?
@austinzizzi11427 ай бұрын
No the asymmetry it caused by asymmetry in the bone not the muscle. Patients with asymmetrical jaws are more likely to have more asymmetry throughout the rest of the face. You have to remember all the bones of the face are connected
@NaniRPDL7 ай бұрын
Not necessarily
@Terminal_Boneitis7 ай бұрын
@@austinzizzi1142Her facial bones will always be asymmetrical (most people's are) but actually muscle does have the ability to change the shape of bone because of the forces it exerts where it attaches to the bone, so her muscles being used more symmetrically can theoretically improve the symmetry of the skeletal structure as well.
@austinzizzi11427 ай бұрын
@@Terminal_Boneitis sure asymmetry is a spectrum but people with cranio facial base deformities like skeletal malocclusion are much more prone to having higher levels of asymmetry throughout the rest of the face as well, and muscle use influences bone shape (and vise versa) during development, but there is absolutely no evidence suggesting that you can change your bone structure after development by changing muscle usage like her.
@austinzizzi11427 ай бұрын
@awardwinningcritique6895 you’re talking about posture that’s something completely separate. First of all the sutures in your face are already closed by the time you stop developing. Secondly to change asymmetry in the face you are talking about change the actual physical SHAPE of the bone. That’s completely separate than muscles stabilizing your skeleton, but a better bite would give her entire skeleton a much more harmonious posture because the jaw is the counter weight for the spine which balances out the forces from gravity

just got this done, in 4 days I’m 1 month post op!! weirdly enough my swelling went down a drastic amount by week 2. the surgeon was pleasantly surprised about how much it went down and he said I’m one of the best patients he’s had in regards to swelling. even though I’m at the beginning of my recovery I’m so so glad I got it done 😇 edit: her nose is probably crooked because it’s still inflamed/swollen. from everything I’ve read and heard the nose doesn’t usually “straighten out” fully until around 6 months and what we see of her is at 2 months. keep in mind at 1 year is how the face actually ends up looking!
@daniellebrothers36886 ай бұрын
I had a bilateral osteotomy (like hers), my lower jaw moved back, my upper jaw forward (albeit just a few millimeters). Just prior to surgery is the worst, as they straighten your teeth as the prelude to aligning them. I could lick my lips with my teeth clenched! The most difficult part was having my wisdom teeth removed about six months prior. I had a lot of swelling. The upper jaw relocation made my palate very soft, and I was wired shut for about six weeks. It taught me about patience--you can't lick your lips, it's difficult to sneeze (who would've thought?) and you cannot yawn. I had two plastic splints between my teeth, so my liquid diet (especially soup) would catch little bits, and it was hard to be heard, since your mouth is basically closed. Crying in frustration was also out, since if your nose got congested, it was hard to breathe. But the difference it made to me was amazing, tremendous--I have never regretted it. And on another (bright?) note, I was a kid, and my parent's dental insurance said it was medical, and the medical said it was dental, so the next year, my parents got a huge tax break and were able to help with college for several of my siblings. Silver linings indeed haha. She looks great! I'll bet she is very happy, I'm sure she is glad to have it over with.
