That Chapter

2 жыл бұрын

In small town Oklahoma, two girls were found massacred on the side of the road. An unbelievable tragedy, and what appeared to have been a random shooting would remain unsolved for years. That is, until in the next town over, a young woman disappeared. Her case would be solved quickly, and would lead to the discovery of a vengeful young man.

I noticed that too. In one of the pictures the way he was holding his hand to his face, to me seemed a bit effeminate. So that could be why he was teased in school. Hey Mike, just want you to know how insane it was to see this notification today. My dad is Kurt Titsworth, he was the head agent on this case for the entirety of it. This whole thing took a huge toll on him emotionally, because of how sensitive it was and how tightly knit all the families in okfuskee county are. You’ve been one of my favorite KZbinrs for a long time, and I’m grateful you covered this like you do any other case. Edit: just in case anyone was wondering, my dad was the one interrogating him about the “little monsters”. This whole case is so damn sad and punches me in the gut every time I think about it.

I'm from Okmulgee and knew a lot of the families/parties involved. I had only met Kevin once if memory serves correctly. Thought there was something wrong with him. Everyone around town knew there was something wrong with him. We all expected that he'd do something awful at some point, but none of us knew he was that evil. Ashley's best friend is a close friend of mine. She'd begged Ashley to get away from him because she really suspected there was something wrong with him and that he'd hurt Ashley. Her fears were warranted. After the trial, we had a charity benefit for Ashley's family (I helped with set-up and ran the sound system). It was all a horrible series of events stemming from a really evil individual. I also doubt that Kevin killed those girls solely because of his brother. I didn't know his family well, but from what I know him and his brother weren't that close. I think he wanted to kill and that was the excuse he picked. I think he feined mental illness to try and get out of his comeuppance.

They won't just clap irons on you, you're in the system for life, then. once you're given sentences that pertain to how you are criminally insane, you don't get out of that. you're put in a facility, and treated. I'm a father of 2, a 24 year old daughter and a 21 year old son. I've often thought about what it would be like to have one or both of my kids kidnapped, assaulted, and/or murdered. That has to be one of the most soul shattering experiences a human being can experience. I have a recurring dream that started about the time my son started walking (maybe because it was more difficult to watch them both all the time) - I am disabled from a broken back and failed surgery and can no longer run - in the dream someone grabs one of my kids a short distance away from me. I try to run after them but I can't and as I watch them disappear in the distance or get into a car and take off, I wake up in a puddle of sweat and tears. I used to have this or a similar dream every several months until they were both teenagers. Even though they are both adults now I still have a similar nightmare about once a year. While they were growing up I almost never let them get completely out of my sight unless they were at a friend's house and I knew the parents. I suppose some of this may have been because of my physical disability, but I think most of it probably came from my growing up in the 1970s and 1980s when serial killers became part of the news and Congress, the FBI and others were constantly warning about all of the children being abducted across the US, missing kids pictures on milk cartons, and other things like that. Of course, since then it has been proven that many of those concerns were way overblown in the pursuit of FBI funding and Congressional monies and laws to combat this perceived threat. It is true that abductions and murders do happen, but not at the numbers claimed at that time - some 5,000 abductions per year, but for me, it was more than enough to make me paranoid about my children's safety. I can't imagine what it's like for parents of abducted, missing, murdered children - it still just boggles my mind

@@ChopBassMan I grew up in a bad area where gun shots weren't uncommon. When my sister had her son, I dreamt that someone was shooting into my childhood home and I was begging my nephew to run to me. My nephew was always a defiant jerk, so in my dream he refused to move and stayed in front of the patio glass door. He wasn't even my kid and I had bad dreams like that! I knew that I'm not someone who could handle the grief that comes from losing a child, and decided it was best not to have any. I truly don't know how parents go on, after something so horrific steals their babies from them forever. I avoided getting pets, bc I know how painfully it ends. Now I'm stuck w a sick dog and I think I may die from Takotsubo/ broken heart syndrome, when he leaves me. I can't handle loss at all, so it is best to avoid getting too attached to anyone. I could never imagine what these parents go through at night before they fall asleep, and start to let their mind wander.

Years ago, my gf and I lived in an apartment house in an upstate N.Y. city where a young woman whose husband was incarcerated in a local prison also resided. We became friends, and since she had no car, I drove her to the prison several times to visit her husband, who was in on a non violent felony, burglary or some such charge. She told us a story about what happened one day when her husband had a court date. When the prison van arrived at the courthouse, the woman's husband and another prisoner were handcuffed to a corrections officer who escorted the two into the court building. As they were walking down the hall to the courtroom, the other prisoner (not the woman's husband) somehow managed to pull the CO.'s sidearm out of it's holster with his free hand, and opened fire, I recall that he either killed, or badly wounded the C.O. before he was subdued. When Mike spoke about Sweat attempting to murder his lawyer with a concealed razor blade, it reminded me of the neighbor's story.

I was raised in a small town in Missouri, and there was a slightly recent murder in a town that has never had anything like that in 30 years to my knowledge. I strongly believe more eyes could help solve alot of problems that the officers skipped over and allowed to happen. Deronte Martin was murdered in Fredericktown MO. He was the only PoC at a party on prom night and they claimed he went up to their basement and shot himself in the head. There are a bunch of things pointing towards the owner of the home who was allowing his daughter to have this party, who is also extremely racist. At first the police determined it as suicide and allowed the home owner to clean the area before they did any search or checking the crime scene or anything. Later the autopsy showed it was not a self inflicted and still nothing has been done. Derontes mom is still searching for answers but nothing has happened. It could really use more attention.

I was in Amarillo Texas the day this happened, it was huge news even in Texas. Everyone was wondering what happened and there was a deep sadness about it that affected everyone that week. Everyone wanted swift justice to be done for those girls. If that young boy had been caught within the first week, I'm sure he would've been broken out of the jail and hung. People were in a rage about finding out who did it, and serving out justice with a rope. So glad you reported on this case. Thank you.

Lynch mobs are never a good idea. In cases like this it's important to go through the justice system. Crazy people make false confessions all the time, so you have to be sure. However, if there was a capital punishment that involved being torn limb from limb by a crowd of your peers, I would be ok with that in certain cases. I guess being drawn and quartered would also work.

Yeah man. Once at my boyfriend(at the time)'s house, one of his clients came by asking if he could help them fix a door. I got a really nasty vibe off this dude like instantly, even though the question wasn't odd or anything. Fixing stuff was part of what my bf(at the time) did. The guy left his number etc... then asked where the nearest highway was and just walked off through the woods. So... at that point confirmed something was wrong but I just thought he was tweaking. Turned out he had just beaten his mother to near death. Thankfully she lived, I think, but... Yeah. Your subconscious knows when something is off for sure.

Totally understandable. I'm similar except I have days where I'm 'up for it' (kid murder stories) and days where I'm not; the key is recognizing that fact and asking myself what kind of day I'm in before I hit play, maybe put it in 'watch later' instead. I also get to where there are only 'so many' murder cases I can watch in a row where the victim was a woman. I'm a devout member of the kind of feminism which is really 'humanism' because I know there are reasons why men commit these horrific acts so much more commonly than women, ways that boys can be raised that make them dangerous, and it certainly doesn't mean all men should automatically be mistrusted. But sometimes ...... sometimes I feel like these insecure, selfish, narcissistic men are EVERYWHERE, that's when I know I've been watching too many videos like this.

@@audreymuzingo933 " it certainly doesn't mean all men should automatically be mistrusted. But sometimes ... ... sometimes I feel like these insecure, selfish, narcissistic men are EVERYWHERE" They're not, of course, as you know. In fact, they are a small minority - but when that's all one sees (perusing shows like this), it's understandable why one might start to wonder about it. This is precisely the same mechanism that causes cops to get jaded and suspicious of everyone except other cops... except unlike the rest of us, they can't decide to take a break from it, to put the True Crime shows on hold for a while, and re-establish ties with the "real world". So, don't let it get you down, and just take a breather every now and again, and recall that there are lots of us - most of us - men out there in the world that are normal, ordinary people who are kind and loving and supportive and have never been in any trouble with anyone at all. 🙂
