Beautiful work, Kalena! I can't stop looking at it! For the record, when you're pouring, to get a thinner stream, hold cup higher. Love how you pour right on the edge of the pot. Don't need that beauty draining in the pot hole.

Your work is most beautiful, will you please tell us the portions you mix your colors with ? And I didn't understand what you meant by you added cilicone at the end . Will you please explain that to me . Thanks for sharing your gorgeous art ,I love it.
@kalenaflows45742 жыл бұрын
Thank you. Mixing individual colours is based on specific thickness, you want the final thickness to be like warm honey. It will be trial and error to start with. I mix about the same amount of each colour I want to use. There are a lot of different ways to mix paint but my preference is to use PVA glue and Floetrol to create the texture I want. I typically use equal parts paint and pva then add enough Floetrol to get a warm honey texture. At the end, a quick spray of silicone or drop of silicone oil will make the cell shapes come up quicker and more densely packed. With this pot, from memory, silicone was not added to all the paint and what was added was done halfway through layering the paint in the cup just prior to putting it over the pot. I hope this helps explain.

Love love love this can you give a recipe for the ingredients and how to mix or did I miss the instructions. Thanks
@kalenaflows45745 жыл бұрын
Hi Susan, I'm pleased you love this one, it's one of my favourites. The instructions would have been listed in there (unless I only put the colours in... I admit I can't remember!) however, here are the ratios: Paint:pva - 1:1 Paint:floetrol 1:4 (sometimes more floetrol) Small spray of silicone (half second) Mix the paint and pva together thoroughly before starting to add the floetrol, a little at a time to ensure you don't put too much in. Add the silicone just before you start pouring the colours together. The floetrol is sometimes more than that and will depend on the paint as some colours are thicker than others. I use a heavy body acrylic paint which is quite thick. The end result in texture is a warm honey. Not too thick like cold honey but not too runny like hot honey... does this make sense? I guess when you try it it will. Have fun and feel free to come back and ask any questions. Kalena

@kalenaflows45746 жыл бұрын
I use mostly heavy body Mont Marte paints, I love using the metallics for the shine and will often add iridescent paint as well. These are mainly just to give a sparkle shimmer and don't alter the colour of the paint. I add to this both floetrol and pva glue. The exact amounts are difficult and will vary depending on the size of painting you wish to create, however, the ratios are approximately equal parts paint and glue then usually around 5 parts floetrol. I don't measure my paint mix unfortunately as different coloured paints are frequently different textures so you just have to go by feel to get the right consistency. What you're looking for is the approximate consistency of warm honey- thick enough to not simply run off your project but thin enough that it will actually move smoothly when you want it to. Once I'm happy with the consistency I add a one second spray of silicone to the paint and give it a small mix, I usually do this right before pouring the paints together. The silicone spray is just like WD40 or any other spray silicone you can pick up from a hardware store. A lot of people use a liquid one, I'm fairly sure there is no difference to the outcome, I just haven't used it as the spray was easier - it was already in the house! When layering the paints getting ready to pour I like to put quite a few layers in order to make more colour variation and patterns. Most of the time I will torch my projects after pouring to create more cells in specific areas but it's nice to leave them occasionally too. I hope this has given you enough information to feel confident about starting, pouring is amazingly therapeutic for me and I hope it can be for you too. :)

These turned out so pretty. Someone's mother is going to be thoroughly delighted. Who's your little helper? The candle holder is pretty too. You don't worry about it overheating and breaking? Does any kind of glass container work? Arm ouchy all better now? Have a great weekend!♡

Preciosa Flower thanks :) one of my kids likes to hang around while I'm recording. Sometimes I have to edit her out for her own safety. The jar doesn't overheat surprisingly. I've burned a candle in it for about 8 hours one day and could still pick it up with my bare hands easily. I kinda want to make more!

Question. I have a giant pot that was once had a hand painted landscape on it. It started to peel so I sanded it off and spray painted it white. It's awfully boring now and I want to this to it for my mom's birthday as it used to be her mother's. So you think the paint will adhear to the already painted surface?
@kalenaflows45743 жыл бұрын
Provided you don't have varnish over the white paint, it should do fine. I'd prep the interior by using a waterproofing product for terracotta pots to stop it from peeling again though. It sounds like a lovely idea and I'm sure your mum would appreciate it.
