Than mission accomplished; actually their comeback hits "You are not alone", No face no name no number " and "Sexy, Sexy lover" are all great stuff. And CC Catch's " Strangers by night ", the long version. Greetings from Belgium

I love Modern Talking! Production wise they were truly ahead of their time, but a lot of their best songs were ones that weren't released as singles or had music videos. And no, they didn't follow the exact composition formula every time. A lot of their songs had bridges and completely different verse/chorus arrangements. They only followed the same formula for singles because it had the most commercial appeal and what the audience wants most. I recommend giving their 1st album a listen as its their most varied, synth heaviest album and widely regarded as one of their best. Some 80s songs aside from singles that are absolutely must listen to are "Diamonds Never Made a Lady", "Lucky Guy", "The Night Is Mine - The Night Is Yours", "Lonely Tears in Chinatown", "Sweet Little Sheila", "With a Little Love" and "Lady Lai" (the most beautiful romantic ballad ever). Their 99-03 stuff is also fantastic if you like eurodance, though they do make a lot of great modern sounding ballads too. Production again is ahead of their time and absolutely bananas. "Sexy, Sexy Lover", "Rouge Et Noir", "Win The Race", "China in Her Eyes", "Don't Take Away My Heart", "Time Is on My Side", "Avec Toi", "No Face, No Name, No Number", "Mrs. Robota", "10 Seconds to Countdown", "Everybody Needs Somebody" and "Send Me a Letter from Heaven" are all goosebumps inducing phenomenal songs. Basically, if you're not digging into their discography, then you are greatly missing out on life! 😲

Hey Dereck the 80's music had rhythm and we could song alone and dance along. So much better than today's music.

I've been listening to this group since an Afghan refugee introduced me to them in the early 1990s when I lived in the U.S. After returning to Denmark in 1997 I bought a double compilation CD with their music (maybe in 1998 that's the version I remember) that I listened to regularly until we didn't listen to CDs anymore. I knew I'd heard their music in the 1980s when my mother and I lived in a commune where some of the younger residents regularly played Modern Talking tapes at parties.

I've always been a Modern Talking fan, even when it was shameful to admit that. I remember very well when they split for the first time and apparently no one had ever listened to their songs. No one admitted that they had been fans at one point. The same thing happened again when they split for the second time. It's sad, really. I'm not ashamed of anything I like.

The ‘98 comeback album «Back for Good» was huge in Scandinavia, I love both that, and the following «Alone» and «Year of the Dragon» albums. I prefer the 98 remixes over the original 80s versions as well, the songs are catchier, with a fuller sound and more punchy beat, making the originals sound slower, flat and hollow in comparison.

i like both versions but enjoyed the remix more. and it sold twice as much as the original so i am not alone in thinking this. i think they used the same falsetto chorus from the original in this remix.. i would suggest one of their more recent songs. dont take away my heart.. it is superb, back then MT was germany's best selling male duo. (think hall and oates in the u.s. ) and to this day am sure they hold that same title.

Modern Talking's only big hit here in the UK was Brother Louie from 1986 .. it reached number 4 .. This song reached number 56, You Can Win If You Want reached number 70 and Atlantis Is Calling got to number 55 .. Brother Louie was an example of a hit that seemed to happen every year in the 80's when people went to Spain or Italy for their holidays they would hear a song there and buy it when they got home usually giving the act a 1 hit wonder .. Words by FR David, Boys by Sabrina and Rock Me Amadeus by Falco were examples of this

Hope you don´t mind the double post: From 1984-2000 (maybe even earlier) Dieter always used the same studio musicians for the chorus. They sang the bridge, the first part and the second part of the chorus (if there is one). There were paid a set amount of money for each song and they never appeared on stage with them. Viewers and listeners mistook Dieter and Thomas for their voices (esp. the high-pitched parts). There was a court battle in the year 2000 which ended in a settlement which resulted in Dieter paying them 100k per person. In return, they were not allowed to answer any questions about whether Dieter sang the chorus or not. Dieter did sing the verses in Blue System (and in the song There´s Too Much Blue on the first Modern Talking LP), however, his secret singers were the following people 1984-1987: Rolf Köhler (RIP 2007), Michael Scholz, Detlef Wiedecke, Birger Corleis (RIP 2012; he did not take part in said court battle and claimed Dieter never sang on a Modern Talking LP except in the song I mentioned; I would sightly disagree) 1987-2000: Rolf Köhler (RIP 2007), Michael Scholz, Detlef Wiedecke 2001 and beyond: Billy King, Nino De Angelo, Christoph Leis-Bendorff Rolf, Michael and Detlef went on create their own band called Systems In Blue. They are still making music (though Rolf sadly died during the production of their 2nd LP). Their latest song is called Aquarius (as of July 2024), but I suspect it could be their last. I intend to keep this music style alive, thanks to AI.

haha I was going to suggest you do Modern Talking, glad to see you have already done at least one! even though it's german bubblegum pop (and they milked the sound/formula for a long time), the production value is quite high, and the sound is pretty unique... Thomas Anders has a really good voice... and well, Dieter Bohen is quite a character and I can't believe he's the one singing all the falsetto :D My favourite is Atlantis is Calling btw! oh, and the only hit they had in the US is 'Brother Louie' ...
