For this latest update I wanted to get the Twins back together - it's been a while since I've put both main engines in a scene together and there's a lot done since their last meeting. Since the previous update - the one with sound - I have added much of the control system and more of the oil feed pipes. In addition, the mid level catwalks and crosswalks have been fleshed out and as can be seen, I've added some of the engine-room structural members. Lots still to do, no sound this time though I'm afraid.

It is a great shame that the burst of interest in the engineering of the Titanic came after the scrapping of her sister ship Olympic, where so many interesting photographs and even cine film could have been recorded.

This is very impressive. I find the engine room of The Titanic fascinating. Thus gigantic set up was installed after the ship was built. This was stunning ship building. Congratulations on this video, i really appreciate it

This animation is so great. The reciprocating engines are awesome. I love that there are so many KZbin channels dedicated to Titanic animations and history.

This is just so amazing it would also be amazing to see Titanic’s turbine room and the electrical engine room.

Awesome video. Thank you. It would be great to see an animation of the movement of the pistons in the cylinders with the top heads removed.

Definitely something I'm considering, but it won't happen before I've completed the external features.

Your work is exceptional. I wonder, if you will adopt the (real as it seems) three blade design, or the (misinterpreted in common belief, mainly due to the drydock propeller Photo of the olympic) 4 blade design, when the time comes and you will add the central propeller to this setup..!

Where's the Low-Pressure Turbine Engine? That's the engine that powers the main propeller. These engines power the port and starboard propellers.

I see that the outboard screws are counterrotating. Since Titanic had three screws do you know if one of then outboard screws rotated faster to offset the center screw rotating? Seems like if this were not done she would have a pull to one side like an old shopping cart...

Also thought about this, I too would think all propellers were rotating in the same direction

Very Interesting question OWE. From My point of view the set-up of the engines - they were mirror images of each other - automatically suggested Contra-rotating propellers so I went with that almost by default. Having double-checked it I can confirm that they did in fact contra-rotate as illustrated and as you correctly alluded to it, the central prop rotated faster. My understanding is that contra-rotating increases efficiency but does generate higher noise levels. For Titanic's arrangement, see the followin article - www.titanicology.com/Titanica/SpeedandRevolutions.htm

I wonder......considering that time technology , how do they forge such a big and long drive shaft so precise? They clearly didnt had CNC or big computer controlled hidraulic press to do it like we do nowadays......a dive shaft so long needs to be perfectly balanced if not , he will destroy bearings very quicly despite having lubrification

Does a thrust block basically operate similar to a clutch?
@titaniccor6502
@titaniccor6502 9 ай бұрын
Hi Somebody, no. The thrust block basically clamps the shaft in place and prevents the thrust of the propeller from pushing the engine forward through the bulkhead. By locking the shaft down that thrust is transmitted to the Hull, pushing the ship forward as a whole.

@titaniccor6502

Do you mean the large wheel at the aft end of the engine? Believe it or not it' s not actually a flywheel (I thought it was myself when I started the project), it's actually a component of the Turning Engine which was used to rotate the cranks into their starting positions. I'm not sure what you meam by the teeth spinning?. Do you mean the wheel as a whole? The wheel spins because it's bolted to the shaft...
