I am surprised like you as to how strong that soft solder joint was, but given that it needed to be held to machine it in your friend's machine it's a good thing it was! Grooves look very good, as you say the original fellow isn't around to ask and 100 years from now some other guy will be remarking about your machining job too.

I can't believe it took me this long to find a english machining channel. "No 3mm drill bit is gonna break this bastard".thanks john. I laugh till this day.

Great night cap. I was thinking the internal channel was probably done with a chisel, then you said it!

Great job John, just wondering if that external rough channel/groove is a modification because the oil was in the wrong position, academic though. Impressive joint strength, keyed well in. I used to enjoy chiselling grooves in brass bushes, normally a figure of eight shape, copper was a pain, mushroomed up terrible. Great set-up, definitely losing "a mechanic who pisses about" monicker 👍 Thanks for sharing.

I wasn't surprised at how strong the solder joint was, though obviously it is weaker than a hard solder joint.

U have possibly improved on the original design John by the ball end mill cos it doesn't have any corners in the slot to build up any crap 👍

You never get the surfaces properly tinned until you take them apart for the last time.
