At the end, B-Rad stopped trying to *appropriate* Hip-Hop & Black culture in America, and started actually *embracing* it. He stopped tryna be a caricature of what he thought hip-hop was and just was himself, a White boy, who just so happened to also be into hip-hop. @Why The Hell Was I In Star Trek 6? I don’t think you truly understand the nuances in the argument. Is there slight appropriation in our love anime? Sure, that can be argued, but we’ve largely expressed a love & reverence for it. Same with the main character in The Last Dragon in terms of martial arts. The argument *against* cultural appropriation isn’t saying you can’t enjoy or participate in someone else’s culture, it’s about shaming such involvement merely for your own gain/exploitation/mockery (being a culture vulture). I sense a politically charged anger in your trolling, and if that’s the case then you’re probably not gunna be open to what I’m saying regardless, but hopefully you’ll look further into the actual arguments against cultural appropriation and not just at headlines or buzzwords on FB/Twitter

@BareBandSubscription2 жыл бұрын
@@DM-jn3zo Honestly, that’s the way it should be. The reality is, racism won’t ever actually end until the human race is all one color, one culture. The internet allowing people to socially blend more easily, I guess, is a stepping stone towards that inevitable outcome.
@darryljack66122 жыл бұрын
I get what you are saying, I myself grew up as one of those black people who was questioned why do you "act white". But I think the difference between those two things, in terms of the movie. Is the fact that with Diggs' character in doing "white things" he is essentially trying to elevate himself in society and become more prosperous from his acting career. and the movie shows the struggle of being black and not "acting black". But when it comes to Kennedy's character it's not that someone like him can't exist, it's shown in the movie that he learned of these things from an early age from his maid because of his parents lack of parenting, which is believable. But the character comes from wealth and status, picks the good parts to take of the struggling culture, and experiences no Real or lasting struggle by the end of the movie. And on top of all that the movie only rewards him for it by the end. It fumbles the satire it was trying to present in the first place.

It's not really going over Korey's head, Martin even explained that in the beginning of this review. Korey is just simply pissed off and wants to vent. Why you think he got silent there for a bit before responding to Martin with "agree to disagree" only to go right back to sinking his teeth into this film?

This movie review has shown me that this movie has a lot in common with Scary Movie 3 (which was released the same year and also had Regina Hall and Anthony Anderson in it). The white rapper doing the wrong thing, getting thrown out of the club after a seemingly racist incident. The mentions of wonder bread, etc.

Of course not. That’s all the 2000’s was. Now, instead of appropriating black culture, white people just speak on behalf of black people and “stand up to” white appropriators in an effort to gain some kind of acceptance or pat on the back from black people, because they didn’t grow up around enough to feel comfortable around them in the first place. I kinda miss when it was so simple.

As an actual black man. This movie doesn't offend me and I still enjoy it. Honestly, it's not making fun of black people, it's really poking fun at white people who try to "act" black. So why anyone would actually get offended by this, I don't know. I can't speak for them.

And before anyone come at with some "what does acting black mean", you know damn well what I meant.

_Is it_ problematic? It’s a clear satire of suburban white appropriation of black culture, racial stereotypes, and has a message of acceptance. Outside of Jamie Kennedy saying the N-word once for shock value (technically a turning point in the plot), what’s the problem? At worst, the movie’s just kinda stupid and not every joke lands.
@dougdeveloper88502 жыл бұрын
Is this film perfect? No. But I have to admit it’s one of those rare films in which if you were to pitch me the premise, I’d actually laugh out loud. You can also do a lot more with the material. It could have been a SMART commentary on white privilege and race in the arts.

@@I_WANT_MY_SLAW I’m a big fan of the DT channel & I can tell there’s a common thread with korey. He always points out how, especially in older movies, “the black man can’t get the white girl”.
