50:06 The reason why Tom Hardy’s Venom is in the MCU was because in the Let There Be Carnage post credit scene, Venom said he was part of a hive mind of Venom in different universes, so he might’ve been connected to the Venom from Spider-Man 3. I agree with the lack of real consequences in the first act of the movie, such as the legal problems been hand waved so easily. But here’s the thing: the writers went to great lengths in this movie to prove that Tom’s Spider-Man is very selfless. When he first gets home after running away with MJ at the beginning, he almost forgets his own issues as soon as he hears about May and Happy breaking up. When he pleads with the MIT representative, he does so on behalf of his friends but not himself. When Matt Murdock tells him his legal troubles won’t stick, he warns Happy is still on the hook. When he seeks Strange’s help, he does so because his loved ones are suffering. When he decides to save the villains, he does that at the expense of his own safety. When he decides to save Green Goblin at the end, he does that despite his own desire to kill him. So I feel the writers dropped the consequences of Peter’s own actions because these could have overshadowed his selflessness and his desire to help others.
@ultimamage32 жыл бұрын
When he got home after running away with MJ, he focused on Happy and May to distract them from the fact his identity was revealed until it was too late and the news helicopters were right outside the window-- the entire sequence was him trying to metaphorically brush the entire pile under the rug. When he pleads with the MIT representative, it was after he botched the spell and was told by Strange that he could've just talked to the dean first and he didn't. Even then, he could've called Pepper or pulled rank that he was endorsed by Iron Man, known MIT alumni and world savior. When he seeks Strange's help, it's literally because his friends can't get into MIT from the controversy, and I guess going to a community college for a bit was beneath all of them. When he decides to save the villains, it's because May told him to, because despite all of the times he's been with the Avengers and interacted with Tony and Steve, his first response was "this is not my problem, I can't fix this". When he decides to save Green Goblin at the end, it's because Tobey stopped him from killing Goblin first.

Exactly, I'm surprised the guys didn't mention that the one main theme that was done perfectly in the film was Peter accepting the consequences of being Spider-Man. Did Iron Man not graduate MIT as a teenager? Did the Stark Foundation not give a massive grant to MIT in Civil War? Did he not get the idea to visit Strange after his, MJ's, and Ned's rejection letters mentioned the controversy as a reason for rejection? Did he not say, "This is not my problem," in front of May and say that sending them back was the best way to help them? Here's some things I learned and loved as this movie came out. Alfred Molina (Doc ock) & Marisa Tomei (Aunt may) had a couple easter eggs. 1. Ock and May dated or got married in the comics. 2. Both actors worked together in the movie, The Lopez Family (1995). Kingpin & Daredevil weren't originally going to be the first characters of the Netfilx Marvel series to transition into the MCU. Jessica Henwick was going to reprise her role as Colleen Wing in the Shang-Chi movie and also be the current Iron Fist (post-power transfer from Danny Rand). Instead she played the role of Bugs in The Matrix Resurrections. Fans wanting sequels that never happened. Spider-Man 4 with Maguire and The Amazing Spider-Man 3 with Garfield. If they can be done, let them happen. Wouldn't mind seeing them finish out the past franchises. Other than that, No Way Home was a dream come true. With this 'Homecoming' trilogy coming to an end, the future of Spidey just gets bigger. The next Marvel animated series for Disney plus will be Spider-Man:Freshman Year. Focusing on his early days in the MCU. Obviously we will get the origin story that was never shown and only mentioned.

Having the three spidermen being officially together is the biggest ultimate crossover in history, marvel is just the best to truly give the biggest dream to fans. And let’s give credit to Tom Holland to truly deliver raw intense fight scenes with willem dafoe.
@thedefinitionisthis2 жыл бұрын
So much I can say about this movie. To me, Uncle Ben had always been a part of Peter’s life in the MCU, but it was never dwelled upon like in previous iterations. People have to remember that when Holland’s was introduced, we were merely two years removed from Andrew Garfield’s version, where a major complaint was that they covered the origin AGAIN. I like that they took the “Incredible Hulk” approach, in that they alluded to the origin, without outright saying specifics. Any fan knows the origin. I thought his dialogue with Tony in “Civil War” was perfect. The complaint about Tom’s being so intrinsically connected to the other Avengers never sat well with me, because this was the third time we were seeing a new version of Spidey. I thought it made his era more unique among the others. If you’re gonna do this character again, why tread the same ground? But now in hindsight, it’s clear to see that the “Homecoming” trilogy can be seen as an extended origin story. Yes we know the parameters of Uncle Ben’s death, and how it motivates him to be a hero. But with each movie (as well as appearances in Avengers movies), we see him go from this wide-eyed, innocent kid wanting to be the best hero possible; to see him experience the tough reality of how it affects his life and relationships; culminating in him coming to the cruel realization that the people he loved will always be the ones who pay for his life as Spider-Man. So we see him progress and become the “traditional” Spider-Man that we know. We always associate the “With Great Power” with Uncle Ben. However for THIS version, while his death plays a role in Peter becoming a hero; it’s Aunt May’s death and her giving the mantra that results in Peter becoming SPIDER-MAN. Honestly, I thought it was extremely well done. He’s not separate from the MCU, but now he’s in a position where he can truly redefine his place within it. It's so cool that Holland's trilogy ends, where the previous two Spider-Men's story usually begins. Perfect metaphor for transitioning from teenager to adult. Much like how we had to wait a decade for Steve to get his dance with Peggy, maybe we’ll have to wait and see Peter reunite with MJ. Can’t wait to see the movie again, and can’t wait to see where his version of the character goes within the MCU! Okay, rant over. Sorry lol.

And it make me appreciate both Homecoming and Far from Home more and I already liked those movies, this entire trilogy was just Peter evolving to become the traditional Spider-Man we all know, one coming of age story told through 3 movies with some appearances in the Avengers movies, which I really liked. Hell it made me like Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man, like I love seeing Tobey back, but Garfield really impressed me, proving my point that he wasn’t the problem with those movies, just he needed better material. Plus Willem Dafoe is so good, I’m glad he came back Green Goblin. I still prefer Spider-Man 2 and Into the Spiderverse, but it’s my #3 behind both of them and it’s now in my Top 5 MCU movies. In regards to your Uncle Ben discussion around 14:00, in Far From Home, Peter’s suitcase has Uncle Ben’s initials on it. And in No Way Home, when Aunt May gives the “With great power line….” Peter says “I know.” So it’s implied he had an Uncle Ben, IMO.
@thedefinitionisthis2 жыл бұрын
Yeah his Uncle Ben had always been more implied in the MCU. People gotta remember that when Tom Holland’s version was introduced, we were only 2 years removed from Andrew Garfield’s tenure, where a huge criticism for his movie was that they covered the origin again. When Holland’s was introduced, it was like reintroducing the Hulk: we already know the basics of the origin. This happened to his uncle Ben, and this was the lesson he took from it (ie: his dialogue with Tony in Civil War). Aunt May’s death really was kind of a combination of Uncle Ben and Gwen’s deaths from the comics: the original sentiment is hammered down, but he’s also learning the tough lesson that his loved ones will be the ones who pay for his life as Spider-Man. In the context of MCU movies, Aunt May’s death was the “Uncle Ben” moment that we the audience sees. But in my eyes, he always had that lesson. It was just reinforced by May in NWH.

@@thedefinitionisthis this is exactly how I see it too. The first 15-25 minutes made me want to walk out, except for the cameo, which is the biggest positive takeaway for me from this film. The Good: the fights were brutal and beautifully executed, A+ there. The Sinister Six were the best part of the film. Great banter and jokes that landed on me. Also, who knew that Norman Osbourne/Green Goblin was the greatest wrestler 🤼♂️ and close quarters brawlers in the multiverse!! He beat Spider-Man’s ass as bad as Thanos 😂 The Bad: The writing is not great and it results in tawdry dialogue, lots of flat jokes, and scenes dragging on too long, it felt very Sony to me. Everyone does the most foolish thing possible at every moment possible concerning resolving the problem posed by the story. Things like an MIT dean never thinking to get into the front seat of their uber to escape danger. The sister literally stayed in her seatbelt tugging on a child-locked door for maybe two full minutes, and never bothers to just get in the damn front seat. Spoilers Beyond This Point: Doctor Strange’s Recklessness (Baron Mordo needs to pull up on that fool) was just forced, there is no good reason for him to have handled himself the way he did. Speaking of Dr. Strange, he gets bodied by Spider-Man in the mirror dimension because Peter is good at geometry 😂, but then green goblin breaks most of a condo with Spider-Man’s body. Altogether the story just was not interesting to me. Aunt May and her misguided self-righteousness were incredibly off-putting to me and resulted in an untold number of innocent lives lost and damage to the city. The actions Peter took were disturbingly short-sighted, selfish, and frankly privileged. This movie made me hate Peter Parker lol. And also, Zendaya is now there just to tell Peter that he’s right. No matter how much evidence to the contrary. That’s it. All character depth and agency out the window. The final plan conceived by a room full of supposedly genius-level scientists and engineers was beyond bad. They did not test a pivotal part of the plan, that they could have and should have easily tested, but just didn’t. And wouldn’t you know it, that’s what botches the plan 😒 Overall I give it a medium rental 😑. Could have waited for it to hit Disney+

The Venom stinger was about Venom tapping into the collective consiousnexx of his species that had existed across universes. The moment the Venom symbiote connected to the knowledge, he and Eddie got transported. It was so fast that even the Venom symbioted didn't realize but only on an instincual level.

The second half of the movie completely saved the movie from being a matinee for me. Just flat out amazing, Tobey and Andrew, the goblin reveal, the final battle. The first half was ok. The humor was very run of the mill Marvel, the writing was not always great.

Corey was right about the Andrew thing. Everybody all of a sudden Andrew Stans now huh? I was a fan from the start! Lol ... But for real though, it's good to see Andrew get the credit he deserved. After being cheated by Sony they actually righted a lot of their wrongs with this movie.

Never bothered to watch ASM movies but I enjoyed him in this.
@ktownshutdown212 жыл бұрын
I still think his portrayal isn't good, but it isn't Andrew's fault, it's that those movies wanted to make him into Spider Edward Cullen, a stock YA novel protagonist of the time. This movie redeemed him and gave him a much more fun and engaging character. They should've led with THIS version of him if they wanted those ASM movies to work.
@14supersonic2 жыл бұрын
@@ktownshutdown21 I agree to an extent, but I disagree that that is what made him bad in those movies. It's a lot more to it than that. For one the ASM movies are the only ones that even fully understand what it's like for Spider Man webswinging. The sense of speed, the movement, the momentum. So much so they even made a mathematical expression of how webswinging would supposedly work in the real world. It's why the webswinging scenes in those movies looked so good, and honestly why most scenes in Tobey and Tom's trilogies can barely compare. Truth be told, Andrew and Tobey aren't quite acting exactly like how they were from back in their movies. Both of their performances were a little different. I still think they both did well, but when I put things into perspective Andrew is still going to be my favorite by a mile. Hopefully, with the reception they've been getting from No Way Home we could get an ASM3 and a Spider Man 4 after all these years.

No one noticed how after the spell was casted, the world had changed? At the start of the move J. Jonah Jamison was in a dinky rundown apartment with a sheet for a green screen after the spell was cast then suddenly he was in a big television studio so they were already changes made to the world

The parts where they don't explain magic had never bothered because explaining it would deride interest from the film. Keep the mystery, keep the fantasy going, Harry Potter even stopped explaining magic.

Well the magic explanations should really be saved for Doctor strange films where it's more directly relevant as the theme, rather than a tool to move the story.

Regarding the college scene, it wasn’t just them not getting into their choice college, they were getting rejected from every college. Peter’s concern was for his friends, not himself. I thought the movie made that very clear.
