I with ya, even regarding Taskmaster. That character wasn’t weak in Black Widow because of a gender swap, it just didn’t carry the persona of Tony Masters from the comics. (Something that was never defined by the characters gender.) Granted, that weak characterization was because she was brainwashed, so hopefully with her new found agency some of that can make an actual impression.

One of the things that think has happened with Marvel isn’t that they’ve given us bad content, it’s that Endgame gave everyone such an overwhelming amount of joy joy feelings and nerdgasms that everyone is expecting that from every thing they drop now and they’re not getting that so things are looked at as a letdown, and people forget we took 10 years building up to that one movie. Only a few movies have really given Endgame level highs (No Way Home, Deadpool and Wolverine, Guardians 3) so everyone is just really hard on Marvel. They spoiled tf out of their fan base 🤦🏾‍♂️😂😂

I mean, to be fair...they've given us outright bad content. The writing has gone so far back that it's like we're back in the 90s and 2000s bad superhero writing era. Even No Way Home and Guardians 3 had really weak writing & dialogue compared to their predecessors and relied far too much on nostalgia callbacks instead of quality. And those are the "good" ones.

Captain America comes out in February. In that trailer, Thunderbolt Ross tells Sam that he wants him to reassemble the Avengers. And Sam asks what happens if he doesn’t agree with the President. Thunderbolts* comes out in May. I think we’ll find out what the asterisk means after Captain America. But that is Avengers Tower. That’s the elevator. As for Red Guardian, he was deep under cover for years as an American. So they have an out for the accent lol

These films do themselves and the audience a tremendous disservice by undervaluing the villains. Taskmaster not only talks, but taunts his opponents as "he's" fighting them. But turning him into mute woman in Black Widow, they basically just wasted the character.

The thing I think makes the movie click for me is that it seems to be looking at the online rhetoric of "Who asked for this? We don't want this" and kind of just running with it in the same way Guardians did in 2014. Like these characters are very much underdogs for the audience, a lot of them were already responded to with ambivalence so the entire premise is that they're the wild card team of all these dysfunctional, broken people in a different way from actually being bad people like with Suicide Squad. I do prefer the original "Zemo makes a faux hero team of villains who then actually start to enjoy being redeemed" of the Thunderbolts I know, but I'm open to this personally

With their recent track record caution is warranted, but I think it’s fair to point out that Deadpool and Wolverine was great, Agatha is actually fun and both trailers for Cap 4 and Thunderbolts look good. If Agatha can stick the landing and Cap and Thunderbolts end up good, could the excitement return? Post Endgame Disney overworked them plus for some reason they decided hiring writers who weren’t fans was the direction to go, but now they’ve gone back to bringing in writers who are fans. So they should also be getting their identity back.

Can't wait. This teaser, I thought looked pretty rad considering we hadn't seen ANYTHING except for a cast list and concept art. Even with the hit or miss record as of late, I'm always gonna be down to dip my toes in this universe. Between this, Cap 4, and Fantastic Four, these next few movies are definitely Marvel teeing up the big hitters we're more than likely gonna see in the next Avengers movies. Hell, *this* movie might actually be an "Avengers" movie by film's end, considering the asterisk in the title. They could pull a "Captain America & The Winter Soldier" with this. In all honesty though, I think this trailer/movie would've hit harder had it been something released to end Phase 4. Damn near all the characters in this movie are people we haven't seen in about 3 years. As much as I love "Wakanda Forever," i've heard the complaints that the phase didn't amount to some kind of team up. They should've hammered this movie down and out when the characters were still fresh in people's minds, coming off stuff like "Hawkeye," "Black Widow," "Falcon and the Winter Soldier", etc. Ah well. All that being said, this still looks great. The actors/actresses and the characters involved are all worth revisiting, and i'm DEFINITELY looking forward to seeing how they handle Sentry. Hella funny that Lewis Pullman is playing another "Bob" lol. Cautiously optimistic, but I can't help but be stoked to check out all three MCU flicks next year.

I know when this was announced, a lot of people were pretty meh on it, probably because it’s not the Thunderbolts team from the comics and it’s just a bunch of super soldiers & spies plus Ghost. But I’ve always thought it showed some promise with the creative team behind Beef doing it and I liked the trailer overall. Again given the MCU’s track record as of late being hit or miss, I am cautious like I am for a lot of their upcoming projects, but this looks fun. Also more Florence Pugh as Yelena is always a plus for me. ❤️

I wonder if, since Bucky is rehabilitated, he's bumping heads with this group and could potentially keep them from being used by Val or whoever they'd serve under so they aren't essentially what he was to Zemo, and them expendable like some sort of Suicide Squad. He identifies with the other members having dark pasts and has them turn around to be kinda like the Avengers, but getting their hands dirtier to pull that off. Then he or maybe Yelena lead the group as Dark Avengers or whatever. I could be reaching, but just thinking of possibilities.

My only problem with the Thunderbolts is the Sentry. Like Hyperion, he's just too powerful, and even the comic books don't know what to do with them. In the movie, what they will likely do is resort to just showing destruction when he starts blooming his powers. They did the same thing when they amped up Captain marvel beyond her comic book power level. They pulled back and showed her flying through ships. Most of her story was done off camera, and she was kept out of end game until the end because they made her so powerful that if she was there the movie is over. The sentry and Hyperion are both so powerful and so fast that they would get the Superman treatment which I hate. I loved Superman on the JLU cartoon series because he had limits. He could be hurt. Hyperion could likely take out Superman and Sentry could wipe out Hyperion with ease. Sentry has insane power levels and abilities that specifically surpass Superman, if a Superman fan would admit that anything could surpass Superman's strength. The fact that he's insane makes him scary but I find ultra-powerful villains as well as heroes boring. That's why you don't see blue marvel. How are they going to handle blue marvel? He could take out the avengers by himself and defeated Hyperion. Even when they dare to have people like these two face off, they make the battle inconclusive. Blue marvel and knocks the Sentry into space, knocking him out temporarily, and then the Sentry flies down from space and knocks out blue marvel while he's distracted by avengers.

In regards to Marvel showcasing drug addicts...well least comics...thats not new. Cloak and Dagger were runaways that were homeless and were addicts. x-23 was a prostitute for a time before she joined the X-men. Now for the live action stuff...probably @ new. They may change "Bob"'s backstory to remove the addict portion but they could leave it in. Make it instead of him stumbling to find the serum he was picked up by Val's people as a test subject off the streets or watever. Using people who wouldn't be missed. We shall see. Thanks for vid.

TBH, none of the characters in the MCU version of the Thunderbolts can be classified as straight up villains. It’s always been either a misunderstanding, mind control or a matter of survival. So, it doesn’t take as much to relate to them as it does to the Suicide Squad, who’re all bad guys temporarily being showed in a heroic light. A few things to say about this movie now that this trailer is out: - Hoping this movie’s Rated R (as rumored since last December from Alex Perez of The Cosmic Circus), even in the wake of the $1.3B success of Deadpool & Wolverine, or hard PG-13 to do characters like Ghost or Sentry (ESPECIALLY when he becomes The Void) justice, especially with Blade’s release date now unknown and I’d rather not wait years for the next MCU film from Disney that’s Rated R. - This is the same 3.5-minute trailer from Comic-Con (NOT D23 because it wasn’t shown there), but with some differences, mainly we don’t see Alexei belt out “ENOUGH TALK,” we don’t see Alexei’s speech in the car at the end where he cheers up the team, and we don’t see Yelena jumping off the Merdeka 118 tower, which was filmed in Malaysia and is practical, per Florence Pugh. - Also it looks like Val is indeed the owner of Avengers Tower, which means we’ll finally get the “who owned Avengers Tower” question answered. - And out of all the characters on the team, I’m curious to see how Ghost fits in on the team, given the team is all characters from Black Widow or Captain America fare, except Ghost because she’s a villain from Ant-Man and the Wasp, an Ant-Man movie villain, and that’s what fascinates me the most about her inclusion in the movie. - Also, I wonder if the Thunderbolts* title has an asterisk there because the team will become The Secret Avengers at the end of the movie, whereas Sam Wilson will form the New Avengers at the end of Captain America: Brave New World (since he won’t wanna follow Ross’s idea to have a government-sponsored team of Avengers) and we’ll see them again (alongside the Fantastic 4 and hopefully Deadpool) in Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.
