Michael Crichton was so huge in the 90s, anything with his name on would get made. His books like Jurassic Park, Lost World, Disclosure, Congo, Sphere, and Eaters Of The Dead became movies which came out in the 90s, his screenplay for Twister was made, and he created ER for tv which became a huge hit

And we need a Crichton resurgence. I know he's no longer with us but if we could get some new film adaptations of his novels that would be amazing. Also, don't forget that Westworld was based on the movie he wrote and directed. I would love to see new film adaptations of his novels. Especially ones that haven't been touched yet. Dragon Teeth, Prey, State of Fear, Pirate Latitude, and Micro for sure.

I grew up in upstate NY. Sometimes the snow and ice would form patches of perfectly round, tiny ice crystals that kinda looked like small diamonds. My brother and I would play for HOURS... trying to horde/steal as many "lost diamonds of Zinj" as we could before the imaginary apes would kill us. We would come inside and warm up while we rewatched this movie. We'd do this every winter and every day that those special ice crystals could be found. This was such a blast from the past. I remember everyone in town reading the book and talking about it, then going to the film and talking about it. School, church, the dance studio, everywhere we went people were talking about Congo. My mother tried to stop me from reading the book for one reason or another, but dad was such a fan of Crichton that he let me borrow his copy. I can remember during silent reading, more than half the class and the teacher had the book. It felt like Congo Fever never went away. Thanks for that memory!

Congo was in that line up of summer movies that I looked forward to. Every time it was on HBO I had sit down watch it. Very entertaining, thrilling, and even suspenseful. Why can't these guys grasp? The accents are examples of the English Africans learned during the British colonial period in Africa. That accent is colonial British. The Africans learned it WITH the British accent and it morphed over the century during apartheid. If Korey doesn't like the African sunrise clich'e they need to do a bad movie roast double feature with Cannon films "King Solomon's Mines" and it's sequel "Allen Quartermain and the Lost City of Gold." Those two films (especially the second) are MASTER CLASSES in 1980's racial sensitivity filming. Seriously in every shot ignore the leads and look at the day players in the back at all times. Speaking of the leads this stars a VERY young Sharon Stone who still trying to forget these movies exist.

Lots of people didn't know that Congo is supposed to be a call-back to old jungle adventure movies like King Solomon's Mines, just like how Spielberg's Indiana Jones films are a call-back to black and white serials of that era.
