24:14 oh that disclaimer is a great big lie during production. There was actually two wildfires and a flood in that area that destroyed most of the set. Several of the cats drowned and several more actually escaped from that area. They were roaming around the California highway and I believe some of them were close to a suburban area. The police had to shoot them down so definitely some animals were harmed during production lol.

Only three were shot and killed by the police. None drowned. I knew many of these cats as I had volunteered at Tippi's Hedren's Shambala Preserve where it was filmed and they lived out their life. They were very well loved and cared for. I started to volunteer at Shambala in 1987 and retired as a volunteer in 2022.

The cinematography in this movie is pretty good. There are some pretty good shots in here that I was curious to how they got. There was a POV shot from on top of an Elephant, POV shots from inside a barrel being rolled off the roof, and POV shots from a motorcycle. I was surprised that they were able to stay still enough in order film the movie with lions running at them.

Even if the cats were the best-trained animals in the world (which is a pipe dream), it’s still better to go the CGI route, since the latter is a much more controllable and versatile option that also opens the door to doing whatever scene you want. I never bought a tiger or lion or bear play-wrestling with their trainer who acts as the actor’s stunt double as a real fight or mauling. Using real animals is not only morally dubious but it’s also very limiting.

I have all kinds of scratches from my cat getting just a little excited while playing. Playing for a cat *is* about satisfying the hunting instinct. To be frank, the people who made this film possible should have been hauled off to the slammer for endangering people and for animal abuse. Big cats are some of the last animals you want to work with, not only are they incredibly powerful and dangerous, but they are highly unpredictable, and even trained ones still have deeply rooted predatory instincts that can be set off at any moment. If you’re handling these animals, you better avoid falling over, because that might trigger the cat to lunge and throttle you like you were an impala after seeing your exposed neck.

I read an article in the NY Times (I think) reviewing Tippie Hedren's autobiography and she mentioned one of the poachers being scalped, and then one of the sons or the DP got scalped as well. But the first one is around the 17 minute mark where the poachers are at the "cat house" and the tigers show up and there's the water fight.

I dunno if anyone else mentioned this but Tippi Hedren went on to look after Michael Jackson's tigers, Thriller and Sabu after he won his 2005 trial and decided he was done with Neverland as the false allegations had ruined the place for him (he was pretty much done with America and moved overseas to focus on raising his kids Paris, Prince and Bigi) and he had all his animals go to sanctuaries and such (Bubbles is still alive to this day at the Center of Great Apes, with the Jackson Estate still paying his annual fees).
