The sequel to this is even more insane: set in a dystopian future that the first movie wasn’t set in, the LAST ACTION HERO kid is the only one coming back from the first movie, and Jobe is now played by Matt Frewer of Max Headroom fame who's going full High Evolutionary with his campy performance. I'd love to see you guys roast that one in the future.

I actually like this movie. Nowadays we laugh at the CGI but it was cutting edge back then. And although the story has literally nothing to do with the Stephen King short story the concept is fascinating. And you gotta give it to Jeff Fahey's performance. His slow, incremental change from being mentally challenged to posessing god level intellect was very well done and pretty believable.
@Kylopod
@Kylopod Жыл бұрын
I last saw this movie eons ago, when I was still in my teens, and while I did find it to be an entertaining bad movie with some imaginative visuals, I can’t agree with you about Jeff Fahey’s performance. Even back then I had already seen Flowers for Algernon, and Fahey’s very broad performance didn’t hold up well next to the subtle transformation by Cliff Robertson in the older movie. It feels like Fahey does this really stereotyped mentally challenged person, then without any meaningful transition suddenly becomes a smart guy. I’m not saying he’s a bad actor by any means, he’s constrained by the limited script, direction, and budget.

The Director's cut is WAY better and has much more crazier shit than the theatrical cut that would've been amazing for the review. For instance, the scenes with the monkey go on much, much longer. In the DC, it actually escapes the lab and then befriends Jobe who believes it to be one of his comic book heroes because of the gear the monkey is wearing. The monkey scans Jobe's eye with his helmet which labels him as a "Non-Threat". Dr. Angelo's wife gets shot up by the Shop agents, and there's a scene where Jobe reads a bunch of world history and as a result he develops a very negative view toward humans and civilization. At one point he experiences a flurry of emotions which causes a strange growth to appear on his hand and it freaks him out. There's all kinds of cool stuff that happens! I think it would've been worth the while for Double Toasted to have reviewed it. It's a much better movie than the theatrical cut.

Oh, my gawd, y'all! I took my 11-year-old little brother, a mutual friend of ours, and my best friend to see this on the evening of my 14th birthday! (I had no idea it was rated R, or I wouldn't have even tried to get in because I thought I'd get in trouble.) The 4 of us thought it was the best movie EVAR! A few years later I saw the director's cut on cable, and thought that it was better. Not only do you get more of the chimpanzee (which is always a plus), but in the theatrical version the doctor's wife just disappeared at around the start of the 3rd Act; in the DC, you see that she was killed by lab security in front of their home. I got it on Blu-ray, and while I now recognize that this isn't the masterpiece that I once thought it was, I still enjoy it for the cheesy horror that it is. I'm also a sucker for 90s cgi. So that helps!

To elaborate a few things: The Lawnmower Man short story is about a man called Harold Parkette who hires a lawnmower man to mow his lawn. What he gets is a satyr in service to Circe who turns Parkette into his latest sacrifice for a new season's harvest. It was written as a black comedy. The only real reference to the short story in the movie is the reference to the body of Jobe's killing being put in the birdbath.

I actually do like this film. I think the Lawnmower Man is very inventive and creative with it's story an characters. The characters of Jobe an Doctor Angelo aka Piece Brosen actually put on very Good performances, they are the best part of this film with the philosophy, duelality of Virtual reality and how it can increase intelligence and instead of being used for ignorance and hate that the idea that it could be used to create a more beautiful World, to enlighten mankind in peace and Love is an incredible story and the story concept is different an unique. It's a different Story that has never been done before an it's creative. This film is great 🙂 The CGI effects aren't great but it is 1992 so I can give it a pass. I think for It's Time in 1992 CGI effects in general would be revolutionary. I do find this rant hilarious though, Lol 🙂 Great video guys 🙂 Lawnmower Man 2 is bad. The only Good thing in the 2nd film was the scientist an Jobe an the film score is Excellent 🙂

This one of those films where, as a kid, I'd catch bits and pieces on TV late at night. But I remember it being a big deal, effects-wise when it came out.

Once again, I'm here for Billy's laughter!😁🤣 Gosh, I haven't watched this movie since back in the early 90s when it came out. And then got confused after I read the Stephen King short story it was based on. What happened to Jeff Fahey, anyway??? Haven't seen anything of him in years.

This movie came out in 1992, and on Rotten Tomatoes... it has a 31% audience score. Even people who casually watched at the time didn't like it.

Another one with Billy's blood curdling screaming laughter & Korey's (alright Billy that's enough) "Yeah" I've noticed that sometimes Billy's laughter gets on Korey's nerves it's so funny cuz Korey will finger his forehead and keep repeating the word "yeah" it's after smoking especially

How is it not a SAG-AFTRA violation if they put Stephen King’s name on a screenplay he didn’t write? It screws over both him and the actual writer.

Well the story got two Stephen King tropes accurate: 1. If you’re religious, you’re evil, no gray area. 2. Over the top, totally unredeemable bully character who will eventually be killed and, because they were unrepentant assholes, you don’t feel one bit of remorse when they die.

I’ve never watched The Lawnmower Man or heard of it but after watching this bad movie review I’m thinking about doing drinking game til I’ll pass out. Also I can’t help the fact Jeff Fahey looking like cross between Trey Parker and Chucky with that hair on his head.

A lot of that stuff with the chimp wasnt in the theatrical cut.. I remember seeing in the theater, then later on home video and going... wtf is this? Also, they hyped this by being by Stephen King theatrically, but by the home video release they had to remove his name because it bore zero reseblence to his story
