The Node issue youre having is with Clus' roads. Anywhere they intersect with roads that are not also his roads, youll have that issue. theres a workaround for it on most/all of his road's workshop pages/in the discussions of them. i cant recall the mod, but it just does a quick reset of all the nodes/segments on the map and it gets rid of all of those

These tram roads are a true game changer. Not having to build a loop into the line is realistic, practical and exactly what is being done in real live. I think the red line will make more sense once you've started to extend the development down the coast. I would even consider moving the place where the red line meets to purple one more todays the end of each line. I do think Port Douglas needs parking lots. Or a parking garage. There are a lot of cars parking on the street, which is something that would not translate into a semi-gentrified neighbourhood with this density. And I agree. I'm moving from New Danton to this little street in the heart of Port Douglas. It's so charming, looks quiet although being very central and just feel homey. Thanks for the episode man! I hope it won't crash as much in the future :/

Hi Duszh, thanks a lot for the nice feedback, I have probably built too little surface parking in my hunt for medium/high-density - and happy to hear we've got our first transplant from Danton! Fingers crossed my game won't act funky moving forward 😊

The hills definentely were an area for "lower class buildings". It was pretty common to see cities with hills using those hills as a place to house the "poorer" people. So in Port Douglas it would work pretty well to have grid-like layout on the hills and wooden/brick townhouses on there, as it would make sense in a historical point of view. The softest grade on those hill streets probably would have had/have a tram running through it

I absolutely love this new area. The tram line also makes a lot of sense. As for the bike lane - a welcome addition, I'd continue it along the avenue, by the coastline. A bike/pedestrian promenade would be a great cherry on top of the well designed center. Oh, and I'm glad you finally removed the small road in between the 2 one ways, I was wondering when you'd finally do it! 😁

I think further down the line to prevent overcrowding with parking it’ll also be nice to add more bike paths as another alternative in addition to the tram lines. I think it’d be really cool as well the more that you develop the land it’ll be nice to create tram networks connecting the different developments which is a bit different from traditional developing but I think it’d make this map super unique and might be a reason for tourists and the upper class to come from a far

Name suggestion: Brixton (formerly Brickstown) The district of Brixton began as a humble shantytown, settled by the families of mud diggers and kiln workers , just outside the newly constructed brick factory. As the brick business boomed more and more people came to live near the brick factory, to the great ire of the city officials. Then, as the city was about to evict the people of the shantytown, the tram company approached the city with a proposal. They wanted to buy up the land in between the city and the brick factory, put a tram line in, divide the land into parcels and sell them to the public to build terraced housing. This would take care of the problem for the city, while also bring in some much needed funds. The tram company decided to name the new neighborhood Brickstown, and it remained so for many years until the working class youth began shortening the name to Brixton, at the time the new name was a highly debated subject among the neighborhood adults. But the name stuck and later when the new public housing blocks were built, the city officially changed the district's name to Brixton.

Amazing episode!! The time you put into the work (and the rework to make it again) really shows :)) For the name: Rowland Docks. Of course the Docks refers to the many small docks people and small businesses owned back in the day. Rowland has two meanings. At first, it was called that because people had small rowboats living here, to fish and sail to Coniferia, which was the bigger town and so would have more supplies and a bigger market. Seeing all these people rowing in, naturally the land they came from became Rowland. As with transport expanding onto the island from the mainland, and Port Douglas becoming a more metropolitan area, this localised industry began to fade in favor of bigger business. However, as more people around Coniferia started to visit and live in Rowland Docks, they saw not the rowboats but the rowhouses. As these were a sort of niche sighting in the area, they thought the name referred to the rowhouses on the streets, and so the name transformed in its meaning but still stuck. For building the seaside in this area, you can add some wood stilts in the water, or perhaps build new observation docks as a callback to its history (as a local govt. would to add identity to the place) Good luck on the city!!

@@Infrastructurist I love this suggestion and the backstory. I would however expand it and be that the entire region south of the train tracks be called _'The Rowlands'_ and have the area divided into _'Rowland Park'_ (near the station already built), _'Rowland Docks'_ (the waterfront) and _'Rowland Point/Bridgepoint'_ (near the sections closest to the bridges) which could be the more glamorous part of the town.

As always, love the build. I would keep the name _Brickville_ for the new district because it reflects the history of the area before gentrification and redevelopment. I would add a factory asset that has been converted into a mixed use building (like the Battersea Power Station development in London). The region right next to it should retain its rowhouse characteristics and given that it is closest to the bridge - be called _Bridgepoint._

Add reverse stops by train station. Build high demsity commercial to block noise. Use the odd shaped land at empty end for traditional pull theough stop. Place park and low density commercial there. Natural routing. Love the story behind the neighborhood. The workers still need housing. Otherside of whatever industrial shipping area. College housing.

Port Douglas is giving off some rather posh vibes. I think you should build some taller residential buildings along the water front as those plots are attractive for developers. I also think there should be a small part of Brixton (yes I second that name) which is kept in its original form due to historic preservation conserns. Keeping small houses in such a dense environment is quite a luxury though so I would imagine that this area would have become fairly expensive over time as the city grew. Also maybe consider turning parts of the historic industrial harbour into a gentrified area. Look at Hamburg HafenCity as reference. Naturaly as the city became wealthier heavy industry would move further out and its infrastructure be regained by the actual City.

Awesome video, as usual. I was waiting for it already as it took a bit longer than usual, but now I understand why. Perhaps in the future, the new tram line could extend north into the mountains and suburbs both on the east and west side of the island with the first tram line continuing over the main road so that they cross over each other and the new line will have a sort of U shape, that's quite realistic I believe. Also maybe a minor thing, the train approach speed into the central train station is quite high, perhaps for slight realism it's an idea to lower the pace on the final approach to the station (from the bridge to the station through the city as noise would also be a factor)
@Infrastructurist

I think the small lanes behind the row houses should have cobblestone stone texture in place of tarmac roads, also you can add some restaurants and pubs in these lanes, these pubs were used by working class people when they used to come home after a long shift. You can name it Joseph's bar. Also trams should go upto where you are planning to make the harbour, historically these tram was mode of transport for the people working in those areas who used to live in brickville. You can name this area Hauz Khaas or Fountain Has. Thanks

I honestly don't like the tram reverse stops, because they are pretty unrealistic in general, but also because the trams you are currently using seem to be non-reversible trams (like most of them), which makes them look weird. One thing I really liked popping up are these bike paths, perhaps some of them could even be implemented in Pine Harbour and its suburbs to promote biking in the region.
@henrikr.822
@henrikr.822 Жыл бұрын
Also as we have established, that this is a heritage tram network it makes sense to have loops, as reverse stops are pretty new, which means that there definitely was a loop at some time, even if got taken out by now.
@Infrastructurist
@Infrastructurist Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback Orchomenos and Henrik R - that is noted! We will have to do await with the current reverse stops in the future as the network is expanding, and then have to re-evaluate whether end-loops are more fitting 😊 I also think part of the reason I implemented it was because I have never used the reverse tram ai mod and these tram network assets before 😀

It’s so weird that they made trains and metro reversible but not trams. It’s not even like that’s realistic. Modern trams don’t need loops. Even old cable cars just went back the other way. Trolley buses are the only thing that makes sense to have a loop, but no one uses them anyway because they’re so pointless.
