lol Doug gotlieb is being a little politically correct. It is 1000 percent worse to falsely accuse someone of this specific crime. This girl has damaged this kid’s reputation, future livelihood, and the reputation of his family. The majority of people who heard this case will never see this dude as anything else but a grapist that escaped justice. If it were me I would treat it as such. I would extract the heaviest physical cost I can without going too far because the court will treat it as she just was mistaken. This guy wouldn’t get a penny in civil court.

You should really get better informed before you do these sorts of rants. He probably is guilty of statutory rape in this case. The victim gave up the case against him because he countered-sued her and she didn't have the money to fight it. As you pointed out, he wasn't in the footage of the incident discussed as a "gang rape" -- but it was in his house, with his buddies and he also had sex with the 17 year old in question. "Completely vindicated" may overstate the case somewhat.

Under California law, if you reasonably believed the person you were having sex with was overage, then you are protected against statutory charges. That is a legitimate defense under Californian law. The accuser was at a college party claiming that she was 18 years old. There is actually video evidence on youtube showing her claiming to be 18 at this party. There's a reason that they didn't charge him with statutory because those charges would never stick.
