I was at this show at The Laugh Stop in ‘98. Listening back is a hilarious walk down memory lane. I was working at rock 101KL O L at the time and was leading a fairly decadent life. Things I wouldn’t be proud to tell my family at the Thanksgiving table if you know what I mean. But when Doug walked out on stage, I thought “well I must not be that bad“ he’ brilliant, fearless and full of heart I’ll never forget it.

I have depression and I can tell you that Doug and comedy in general are absolutely a cure to an extent. Everybody’s different but for me things like comedy, music, meditation, etc alleviate it very much. It doesn’t work for everybody but some people with depression respond greatly to those kind of things. Louis Ck is another one of my favorite stand up comedians

Carlin was great, obviously, but imo Hicks had more balls on a younger age to go against the establishment etc. Carlin started at retirement age with that.
