@Bartosz Wójcik From the big 3 germans, I like Audi's vibe the most. That includes allround design, feel and design choices. They still all have their own type of customers, yes. But Audi is just a great brand. Never liked Mercedes as a brand. And BWM not that much either. Relatively weak engine designs are BMW's biggest issue, their media has improved. But Mercedes is even worse if you sum everything up, especially the handling under pressure.

Subtle but important issue: The height restriction for the third row isn’t for comfort (18:10), but for safety. It’s to protect against head & neck injuries from striking the ceiling in the event of a crash. There’s very likely a child-sized weight limit on that row, too. My Volvo V70 has that third, auxiliary row, too. Volvo’s manual specifies those height and weight restrictions on that seat for that reason. I’m sure it would be the same w the Benz.

I was helping my in-laws clean out my grandpa's '18 E400 wagon when they inherited it last year. I could not believe some of the subtle ergonomic quirks, such as the gaps in the plastic trim near the top of the outboard second row seats that secures the seat belt away from the folding portion, the illuminated exterior door handles, and the hidden nfc reader in the cup holder cover. Mercedes has produced a gem of a vehicle that very few will even consider.

After owning an 05 E55, I'm a huge sucker for any Benz, but especially any E class. I prefer AMG, of course, but that thing would've been a great car even without the supercharged v8. It was comfortable, smooth driving, and safe. Unfortunately I was rear ended by a drunk driver the first time I took it out this year, after own owning it since Last October. But, me nor my passenger were injured, other than myself having a strained neck muscle that felt fine after a week. The other driver rear ended me at a red light in his full size van. Never hit the brakes or anything. He crunched my trunk up to the rear wheel. But boy oh boy did that car take the hit and save us. Even my friend's computer, which was on the floor in the back seat, was fine. And it has a glass side and front panel. Just for the safety alone, I'd buy another Benz. I'm willing to believe that if I was in something like a Ford, Kia, Hyundai, etc... I would've been injured much worse. Only other brand I'm sure would've protected me just as well is Volvo. Now I'm looking to pick up an 07 E63. Still a W211 body car, but with roughly 40 more horsepower and no supercharger to worry about, which means no heat soak to worry about.

@@janmeyer9685 the ground clearance really makes a difference, we have a pre-facelift e-class sedan and the tow hook always hits the ground
@andreasstolze33283 жыл бұрын
@@janmeyer9685 Well, my family and I, we take the car to most of our vacations ( lets say the alps,Italy ore sweden). And then it is often better to have that extra optional ground clearence. And beacause I do not want a big, bold GLE ore x5 (nore does my wife), but we need space because we have two children, it just has been the preferred option for us. And to the exposed plastic: at the beginning I had the same problem, but it has grown on me. A couple of month ago I scrached my car by parking it in a tide space, and only a plastic piece had to be replaced intead of a whole body-panel. But when driving it, you dont feel any differences in width ore in height, because the raised position is just up to 30 km per h or so. but it really helps in deep snow, with high curbs, or mild offroad because after all it is an expensive car you don`t want to damage.

Those rear facing seats hit me with nostalgia hard! I distinctly remember being a kid in the 90s riding along with a friend in what would have been a first gen E-Class with rear facing seats.

To be honest, the W124 was the best E class ever according to me. Because it was a fine automobile combining elegance with robustness and practicality. It was a gentlemenly car and truly was a paragon of excellence and being the best.

I love the augmented reality navigation and ambient lighting! I used those features in late 2018 on a G-Class loaner whilst my then C300 was being serviced. Now I have a 2017 C43 AMG (yes we know it’s not one-man, one-engine) and the more robust MBUX and ambient lighting control is missed.

Picked up one of these last November, Nautical blue, beige interior , without the vibrating seats and aroma/fragrance option. This is out third E Class; sedan coup and now the wagon. This has been the best and most fun. Great vehicle, MB nailed the power delivery, in Sport+ I see triple digits way to quickly it’s a sports wagon far more than an Off-road wagon. Hate the lane adaptions, way too intrusive so turned it off. Adaptive cruise control is fun but not 100% bought in to it yet. No issue with visibility. The 4matic system is just what we need; runs up to the mtn in heavy snow and unpaved country roads that may need some ground clearance. Meets our needs for a powerful luxury wagon. For more hard core trails, I have my 20yr old F150 FX4. Oh and the kids love the jump seats.

His was probably talking about a rear-facing seat. We had a hard time finding a less-than-gargantuan sized vehicle with enough space for a 6'5" driver and a rear-facing child seat behind.

I just received my 2023 E450 All Terrain Wagon yesterday. It’s absolutely brilliant. I am so happy I picked this over an SUV. In a sea of SUVs where they all look identical including the little triangle of a window on the rear seats that serves zero function, having a wagon is a safer and aesthetically nicer option. I wish they came with spare tires and they moved the electric battery to another location.

Doug you forgot to mention something tremendously important in this generation of E-class, its air suspension front+rear (previously called airmatic in older generations). Not just is best in class, and it contributes massively to the ride comfort and handling, but in this all terrain model is adjustable and it makes the wagon more versatile (higher for rougher roads, lower for smoother highway journeys). In previous generations, airmatic is also amazing (e.g. w212 models). Downside is that once they need to be repaired (which they will) and the car is out of warranty, the bill won’t be small. Great video, got me thinking if I should get one!

Despite it priced well outside my budget it's nice to know station wagons with a rear facing third seating are still available. Growing up in the 90s Aunt Debbie had a mid to late 1980s Oldsmobile station wagon with the wood grained body, and sometimes me and my cousins would fight over who got to sit in the very back. I also remember her owning a Taurus wagon with the rear facing seats when I was little older, I want to say it was a 1995 Taurus wagon. Waving at the cars behind us, is something very few kids today will ever get to experience. Very nostalgic.
