+12799MaDeuce : You don't need one. I owned both Porsche 911 (A C4S) and Aston (DB9 Volante) and Porsches are pretty trouble-free. They experience the same amount of mechanical and system failures as a Honda Civic. Astons, on the other hand, are money-pits. It's a brand that clearly employs engineers who are under the assumption that the cars will never actually be driven.

+Thomas Ferrugia The problem with porsches isn't actually that they are unreliable but the fact that they cost an arm and leg to fix when they do inevitably break. I would still rather go for one with warranty than without.

+Alvin Brinson Look up the videos of the sounds that different engine layouts make. I5, V10, V12, V8, V6, I4, F6, F4, etc. Also the type of crank used (Flat plane vs cross plane) makes a world of difference. You could also get a flat plane crank sound from a cross plane crank with 180 headers. You answer is too simplistic, and woefully uninformed.

It's so crazy going from a normal engine to a turbo charged engine. I remember when I got my 2001 Saab 9-5 Turbo, I had been in many cars, but with most cars you don't feel too much kick in, but once you feel the turbo kick in... It's crazy. I got goose bumps when I first felt the turbo kick in. Super amazing feeling.

Totally agree, Doug. 8 weeks ago I traded my 2006 911 C2S cab for a 2007 V8 Vantage cab. The Aston is not perfect: it's not as fast or as nimble as the Porsche and the AM's interior information displays (non dials) are unreadable with the roof down. Moreover the automatic gear change on the Aston is terribly clunky unless you use the paddle shift and lift off the gas each time..... But it's rare (911s are everywhere in the SF Bay Area- 5 of my close neighbours even have 911s!) , looks simply stunning and sounds AMAZING - you really do feel like special when you're driving it. I've also learned that it's one of those cars they leave parked outside the hotel rather than have the valet whip it away like my Porsche. Each are incredible cars that I love but I'm sticking with my Aston! (Plus I'm English so it's nice to drive something from back home!)

Fun comparison!! I actually compared the two and went with the 911 Turbo. The lock/unlock this is DEFINITELY so annoying. Especially when you're already 5 minutes away from your car wondering if you've locked it or not. Another annoying thing is how thick the doors are. Need to plan for that when getting out.

"Just another 911" isn't a thing whether it's a Turbo (Or Turbo S) or a Carrera (S, GTS) they're still incredible cars. Just because you don't see an Aston Martin everywhere doesn't mean a Porsche is a lesser car because people buy more of them. Porsche and Aston Martin make spectacular cars.

Why not just get both? The Aston for looking and sounding cool (within easy towing distance of your repair shop). The Porsche for actual high performance driving, road trips, daily driving when there is no need to attract too much attention, and something to drive when the Aston is in the shop. If I could only have one, I'd take the Porsche. Loud exhausts seem juvenile to me and I like the Turbo's looks as much as the Aston. When I see the front grill on the AM I can't help but think Ford Focus now.

based on the fact that it's a heavy german car, there will also be brake-pad dust. germans tend to utilise the pads that "eat" more into disc, apparantly, so does Aston-makers. Lighter japanese cars do away with pads that get worn off, instead of abrasing so much into the brake disk. i guess none of is better or worse, just the manufacturer's choice.

Jessie Ferreira A 911 Turbo S Cabriolet brand new is about $230k and once you add options and tax you are looking at around the 300k mark. However, that one costs a ton and looks the same as a basic Carrera. That's what would suck. You can easily tell the difference between a Ferrari 488 and the California, but with Porsche the average person has no clue.

I have always been a lover of Aston Martin (probably thanks to James Bond), and I think that they make some of the most beautiful cars in the world, so I agree with Doug there. Having said that, that's where I stop agreeing with pretty much everything else. Just because two cars sell for about the same price doesn't make comparing them apples and apples. Aston Martin and Porsche target two very different types of drivers, and have two very vastly different cars. Having had always dreamed of driving an Aston Martin DBS, (again, thanks to James Bond), I was always looking for my chance. It came along a few years ago, and I couldn't have been more excited, until I actually drove the car. While it is fast, looks beautiful, and handles fairly well, it's truly apparent that this is a luxury car designed with some performance in mind. I had driven a 2012 Porsche GT3 RS (with a manual!), for the weekend previous to driving the DBS, and I really think it ruined it for me. That car is created with only one thing in mind... performance. Even driving the new 991 body 911 (I drove both the manual and the PDK, although I'll take a manual any time I have a choice), screamed performance over luxury. There's a reason why they aren't in the same category. They're not the same type of car, nor do they have the same type of buyer. Not to say I don't love the Aston, but it's not even close to the 911. One more final comment... yes, most 911s have pretty similar styling, so it appears that 911s are everywhere. There are definitely fewer Astons, and they really are outstanding looking cars. However, would you rather impress idiots who don't know the difference between a base 911 and a Turbo (or any variation like the GTS, GT2 or GT3 RS), or would you rather impress the real car aficionados and purists? I guess if you were a real car guy, I wouldn't have to even ask that question. To me it looks like you're driving that car just to impress your friends, and if you really did used to drive a Hummer, that completely answers me question.

The best part about the 2007-2008 Aston Martin Vantage? 2 years after this video they are almost depreciated out at 40k.

The Aston is beautiful, elegant, emotional, and rare. The 911 is well-engineered, intuitive, precise, and effective. They're both awesome, but probably for different personality types. I could see myself wanting a 911 forever, test driving them both, and impulse-buying the Vantage.

Neunelfer for me. Basically it's a lot faster and a LOT more tunable. The Aston is only marginally prettier to my eyes. And for the sound, there's aftermarket exhausts. Also the lack of roof in the 911 makes it feel like more of an occasion. And if it's a manual, even better, since tiptronics were not as good as PDKs.

I'd take the Porsche because with the Aston you can get a Mustang for 30,000 with the same performance and noise, plus good styling.

Honestly, the Turbo is a boring thing to drive! And you're completely right, they are everywhere. So, Aston ... for the sound and look! And that still applies also to the newer models!
