+12799MaDeuce : You don't need one. I owned both Porsche 911 (A C4S) and Aston (DB9 Volante) and Porsches are pretty trouble-free. They experience the same amount of mechanical and system failures as a Honda Civic. Astons, on the other hand, are money-pits. It's a brand that clearly employs engineers who are under the assumption that the cars will never actually be driven.

Totally agree, Doug. 8 weeks ago I traded my 2006 911 C2S cab for a 2007 V8 Vantage cab. The Aston is not perfect: it's not as fast or as nimble as the Porsche and the AM's interior information displays (non dials) are unreadable with the roof down. Moreover the automatic gear change on the Aston is terribly clunky unless you use the paddle shift and lift off the gas each time..... But it's rare (911s are everywhere in the SF Bay Area- 5 of my close neighbours even have 911s!) , looks simply stunning and sounds AMAZING - you really do feel like special when you're driving it. I've also learned that it's one of those cars they leave parked outside the hotel rather than have the valet whip it away like my Porsche. Each are incredible cars that I love but I'm sticking with my Aston! (Plus I'm English so it's nice to drive something from back home!)

based on the fact that it's a heavy german car, there will also be brake-pad dust. germans tend to utilise the pads that "eat" more into disc, apparantly, so does Aston-makers. Lighter japanese cars do away with pads that get worn off, instead of abrasing so much into the brake disk. i guess none of is better or worse, just the manufacturer's choice.

I have always been a lover of Aston Martin (probably thanks to James Bond), and I think that they make some of the most beautiful cars in the world, so I agree with Doug there. Having said that, that's where I stop agreeing with pretty much everything else. Just because two cars sell for about the same price doesn't make comparing them apples and apples. Aston Martin and Porsche target two very different types of drivers, and have two very vastly different cars. Having had always dreamed of driving an Aston Martin DBS, (again, thanks to James Bond), I was always looking for my chance. It came along a few years ago, and I couldn't have been more excited, until I actually drove the car. While it is fast, looks beautiful, and handles fairly well, it's truly apparent that this is a luxury car designed with some performance in mind. I had driven a 2012 Porsche GT3 RS (with a manual!), for the weekend previous to driving the DBS, and I really think it ruined it for me. That car is created with only one thing in mind... performance. Even driving the new 991 body 911 (I drove both the manual and the PDK, although I'll take a manual any time I have a choice), screamed performance over luxury. There's a reason why they aren't in the same category. They're not the same type of car, nor do they have the same type of buyer. Not to say I don't love the Aston, but it's not even close to the 911. One more final comment... yes, most 911s have pretty similar styling, so it appears that 911s are everywhere. There are definitely fewer Astons, and they really are outstanding looking cars. However, would you rather impress idiots who don't know the difference between a base 911 and a Turbo (or any variation like the GTS, GT2 or GT3 RS), or would you rather impress the real car aficionados and purists? I guess if you were a real car guy, I wouldn't have to even ask that question. To me it looks like you're driving that car just to impress your friends, and if you really did used to drive a Hummer, that completely answers me question.
