My friend got a used blue TR in 1997 during the Microsoft heyday. not only was it fast but it was a totally different feeling. I had been in a car with similar power to weight ratio, but it was a V8. the flat-12 made it feel like we were being pulled on a string instead of pushed from behind. it was so smooth and unbroken. I've never felt anything like it before or since. he got an F40 the following year and as brutal as that was, it didn't have the magically smooth feeling of that damn flat-12.

This is the correct take. If someone literally gave me both these cars with the proviso that I could not sell them; and I only had one possible parking spot - I would keep the 911. But if that same person said "here, you can borrow one of these cars for a weekend as often as you want for free," I would absolutely borrow/drive the 512.

Rich JF he can have 20. it doesn't matter. it's not "perfect ". what it and many other porches that are up in value have going for them is they are riding a collectors bubble. people at first had a coronary about them being the last aircooled. but it's way beyond that and has zero to do with any kind of quality or driving dynamics. it's all hype and collectors driving prices way up. most don't even get driven . they are bought and stored for potential return on investment. the newer cars are much better cars overall. of course like most new cars they generally lack character of older rides. of course I am a 993 fan...but let's be realistic here.

Ferraris of the 90's were still poorly put together. I remember a 512 TR review of a German car magazine where the reviewer wrote that the car had an "almost scandalously neglected build quality", with an entire cable harness hanging in the passenger's leg room. Several switches and gauges could also be found in a Fiat and basically everything that wasn't the engine (horn, warning sounds) sounded incredibly cheap.

It's super iconic, that's for sure. If someone asked me in the 80's (when I was a little kid) to name 3 coolest cars, I would say: 1. Lamborghini Countach (can't touch Lambo, lol, always the coolest) 2. Ferrari Testarossa 3. DeLorean DMC-12 (because it can travel time - with Doc Brown's mods, lol. And also the doors!) 911 wouldn't even be in my top 20. It's basically dad's car or midlife crisis car. Very uncool. Now Porsche 959, I think, would probably make it into top 10 at some point.

I love both cars, but the Porsche 911 has always been special to me. The 993 Turbo has been in my top 2 or 3 favorite cars list since I was a kid playing Need For Speed High Stakes and saw that 993 Turbo pull away from the light in the intro and drove it in the game. Seeing them in person now is rare but definitely a treat. Would love to own one someday :)

The ferrari does have a radio, if you open the thing on the top center of the dashboard. Also that file button you were talking about, it opens the glove box! Think of how amazing it is to have a 90s car that has an electrically operated glovebox! In the beginning you made so much fun of the Ferrari because you didnt see what it actually hides from you. You should try those buttons to see that yeah they do have a function. Its just more elegant!

Not "one of the earliest" but the first. Came out in 1994 for 3DO and a year later for MS-DOS (best port). Another year passed by until it arrived to the PSX and Saturn. You left out the Viper RT/10, the FD RX-7 and the Supra. Still my 3rd favourite racing game after NFS: HS and NFS: PU.
