The recalled parts are the ball joints, but they do mention the wishbones may also be affected. As someone who worked at a tire shop for 10 years, I've got to say that the replacement tire idea from Porsche is a great idea. Not only might some owners still be on their factory tires, but new tires for this car aren't cheap. Sure, most owners can likely afford new tires without batting an eyelash (not sure about Doug), but would they actually replace them if they don't drive the car very often? After many years, the rubber gets dry & the owners won't bother replacing them unless they begin to lose air & drivers will have to air them up just to go for a leisurely drive. Yes,Porsche might be making the decision to replace the tires as part of a PR damage control (long after the controversy made headlines), but a new model of tire with new technology is welcome.

I don't get the titanium thing: in the recall, Porsche said the faulty part was made from "X46Cr13" and that it will be changed to a part made from "42CrMoS4". Both of those are high-strength steels. The new one has better corrosion resistance and a higher toughness (=less prone to fracture). Even if they really changed over to titanium (which, in general, has an even higher corrosion resistance), there's no way in hell the part is 100+ thousand dollars. They are probably adding the R&D as well as the tool making to the price.

I love Doug’s Sunday morning videos. My favorite format. I think the Top Gear-wannabe banter that I see in the Friday podcast or in the car spotting videos is kind of lame.

I'll never understand why people are so insistent on keeping cars on their original tires. To me it feels like bragging you have the "original oil" or "the original battery"

This mission x is hideous, electric also does ruin the idea of a supercar. And I wish you would’ve said what the part was, instead of just saying “suspension parts” in a video talking about those specific parts lmao

Doug you should do more of your old style videos (like the one where you crushed a car with a Land Rover)

The recall says the spherical joints on the control arms can fracture and fail. So the recall should be a replacement of the control arms.

Thankfully, none of my friend's are Porsche owners🤣If that's high-quality, I want a refund.

While Porsche did the right thing, the fact that once they announced that voluntarily, they wanted people to bring their cars to a service center to be checked for a safety critical item, they open the can of worms. Especially if they internally demonstrated that a suspension component exposed to Salt mist spray that can crack under certain conditions, now they had evidence of a design flaw. The company really doesn’t want to be sitting on evidence that under certain nominal, driving conditions a safety critical part can fail. So in a sense because they had integrity they needed to issue that do not drive order. The moral of the story is Porsche did the right thing once they found out that a failure was possible without excessive external conditions
