@Rizzo 1. High paying trade job (and hell, those don’t pay THAT kinda money in your twenties. You gotta put in serious time for that) 2. Great luck finding a well paying job after college, and somehow still able to afford those cars with the mountain of debt they’ve accumulated. Or hey, maybe they worked hard and got a full ride to college. If so, more power to them. 3. The bank of mom and dad, or sadder, their inheritance. 4. Success with investments 5. Started a business at an early age and saw success. 6. This one is the most likely, they’re lying on the internet. If this person was a boomer, I’d believe it cause back then they had it all and took advantage of it, and are the primary reason the cars young people want are unattainable to them today. Judging by the cars they claim to have had before 30 though, I don’t think they are. You’re doing fine. Don’t get caught up in what other people say they’re doing, or how much money they claim to make.

First of all: the most important thing you said was, that you like all cars. And that's always my feeling, watching your videos. You do not judge. Strange things are not annoying for you, but worth a story. You are not the "my car is better than yours" type, and that makes you a real enthusiast. Second: in the end of the 90s I worked for a VW/AUDI/PORSCHE Dealer and we sold an Audi S4 to a customer. The customer then told me, that this is his 25th car he bought in his life. I was 21 years old and already had my 4th car (license age in Germany is 18 (and my current car back then was a 97' Golf VR6 btw)) and that guy told me, he is 35 years old. So I thought, okay, thats conclusive. But then he told me: And I still got them all in my garage. Later I found out, he was the owner of a paint shop for HCV and lived in a penthouse with an elevator for his cars, so he could lift one to the top of the roof and have a look on it from his living room 😀

I'm a middle-class dude, so I can't afford a lot in terms of cars. The Kia Stinger looks, good and I've always thought it was a decent proposition for price/performance. I remember when Doug reviewed it he said, "The only downside is, that you'll have to defend to your friends because its a Kia." Idk if they're really gonna cancel the Stinger, but that's something I'd consider if I'm every in the market again.
@Blubberbusen2 жыл бұрын
I'm earning like 2k€ a month so i would consider myself middle class as well and bought a Kia Stinger for 28k€ Feb last year. It is very manageable with the costs. Never had any issues, bought it with 103.000km on it and put around 32.000km on it without any repairing. Love it everytime I drive. I'm from Germany so the alternative from luxury brand is very far out of my ballpark in terms of costs. Audi and BMW for example with similar specs go for 2-2.5x that cost easy. Also 7 years/ 150.000km warranty baby. Get one, it's an awesome car!

I'm 48 with over 50 cars and trucks owned. I was raised in a GM home (dad reitred form there) but have no loyalty to any (although I prefer MOPAR historically). I love weird and quirky cars, SAAB's being my favorite (I have owned 2 9.5's a 9-2x and one 9-3), The worst I owned was a 2014 Mitsubishi Mirage (but I still miss it's 50mpg), I had an Abarth 500 and Now a Mini Clubman ALL4 with the 3-cylinder turbo. Ithink if you're a true car afficienado, you're doing a diservice to yourself by being brand loyal. So much engineering goes into even the worst cars, and it's neat to drive and own them, so you can learn their quirks. I have always apprciated your channel, for this very fact. You give respect to Yugos, where it's due, because you appreciate the car and it's intended use. Cool collection and even better bragging rights.

Doug should make one of those videos in every town he goes to. Those driving around vids were some of his best content, because he is so genuinely enthusiastic about almost every vehicle he sees.

well this sure puts things into perspective, as I am 40 and have owned all of 5 cars, lol 1st was a Geo Metro 4cyl (16-18) 2nd was a 2001 Hyundai Accent (18 to 27) 3rd was a VW Corrado VR6 (23 to 29) 4th was a chevy cobalt (28 to 37) and now my 2019 Camaro (37 to current) you sure have been around the automotive block! lol

In the U.K. anything more powerful than a Geo Metro would have unaffordable insurance for a 17 year old. Ford discontinued the Escort RS Cosworth because even 40 year olds couldn't afford the insurance.

Anyone else have to watch Doug’s videos at .75 speed just to keep up? I swear the pace of his speech and mannerisms have gradually increased year after year. Goodness Doug, lighten up on the double espressos (or whatever) 😂 PS - My son and I still have the ‘92 GT-R you influenced us to get 5 years ago. Best car purchase I’ve ever made!

The driver of your old G-Wagen, Charles Winzenread, was arrested two weeks after the crash and charged with leaving the scene of an accident involving death. He only went to trial last year. Apparently, he didn't know he hit the couple from Chicago. Winzenread faces up to 30 years in prison.

Unfortunately in most of these hit and run cases the suspect always gets a light sentence. I wouldn’t be surprised if all he got was maybe 1-3 years in jail or prison and like 4-5 years probation with a mandatory driving class.

I wonder what your thoughts are for people trying to break into the car world on a budget - as you said, back when you had them, you could get M3s, an E55 AMG, a 500E, etc etc for aroundabouts $10k. These days, it seems like an old miata or select hot hatches are your only real options for a fun car on a budget.

love how doug's first was an 850 turbo sedan. mine was the 850r sedan and i still wish my parents impressed on me how special it was at the time. took a few years but i recently bought an 850 turbo wagon and these cars are still so special. would do anything for an rs2 or 500e too. what a lineup. funny enough, the rs2, 500e, and 850 t5r all had (to varying degrees) porsche involvement

My first car is a 1995 Audi A6 with the 2.6 liter V6. What Doug said about his A4 is true, the 1.8t is fun but the V6 (either the 2.6 or the 2.8) are the smooth ones you want for highway driving. I don’t yet have a license since I’m still in driving school till December but I’ve driven my Audi a bit and I have to say it’s super smooth. It has a automatic transmission that shifts nicely (not a transmission that has any problems, still had the old shifter). It’s a 1 owner car (driven by an old lady and after she died by her husband) that has a stamped service book since new. Cost me just 3 grand. My plan is to fix the minor rust issues it has and then keep the car forever. It will be considered a classic in 3 years so I’m gonna be taking it to meets as well. I’m also gonna keep all the documentation for the future. I’d absolutely love to do car reviews at some point but I’m always gonna have a little bias towards Vw group cars.
