The era through the 2010's meant articulate hydraulic steering, jewel like mechanical gauges, instinctive mechanical shifters, no auto start/stop, V8's, V10's and V12's in abundance. There were even glass roof convertibles and of course fog lights and spare tires. We'll be wishing for these cars soon.

Curious why fog lights make the list? As blinding as most modern LED headlights are when they're going the other way I bet most modern cars have enough focused light output that traditional fog lights aren't as necessary as they once were
@LawrenceMarkFearon
@LawrenceMarkFearon Жыл бұрын
@@blue-tb2fd Fog lights do what higher mounted headlights can't. They get under the fog, rain and snow to illuminate the lines on the road. Otherwise higher mounted headlight beams just bounce off the precipitation into a driver's face. No matter how sophisticated LED technology can be, it can't replace low mounted fog lights. Take the 2023 VW GTI for instance. Very sophisticated GTI matrix adaptive LED headlights still include LED fog lights and the overall effect is stunning inclement weather capability. Unfortunately it's the only German car with fog lights in 2023. Asian cars more commonly include them. Tesla's wisely included both LED headlights and LED fog lights on all models. But the most vehicles sold omit them after many decades of including them standard.

A biased pick: 2009-2012 Porsche Cayman S (987.2): -new engines (no more IMS) -S trim received direct injection, 321HP from 3.4L NA H6 -first year of the PDK -still hydraulic steering (981 went electric-assisted) -face lift put the fog lights in a proper position -Cayman R trim never got cheap, not worth the extra $20k-$30k -rare, only about 2100 Cayman S's came to the US '09-'12

Track days should be promoted more so we can save the manual. If I didn’t have the intention to take a car to the track then I’d go for an auto too. I feel like less people over time have done track days so there isn’t that push to have something that’s more fun on track. The other side of it is most old guys that can afford these cars just want to be able to say that they have the fastest version of whatever car, even though they’ll never put the car through its paces, they’ll be able to say their auto car has the most potential but they’ll never have to prove it. So many new cars practically drive themselves, when the cars have a manual, the potential is put into the hands of the driver.

They're trying very hard not to directly insult the "stance" brigade when talking about car models lost to "modding" because we all know those MFers absolutely destroy cars and those are mostly imports. Also, I own a Chevy SS manual and you can pry the keys from my cold dead fingers. Bought new, put 40,000 miles on it and I love driving it. Lastly, how DARE you leave out the CTS-V Sportwagon? @@bradenmchenry995 - No, I don't. Both were designed by the same guy, and to say which is "worse" is largely subjective. Both cars have certain advantages over the other - the XKR-S is faster and rarer while also being much easier to maintain because it shares many of its parts with the base XK, meanwhile just about *everything* you do to an Aston Martin is prohibitively expensive. Aston Martin may be the more desirable marque, but to say one is "worse" than the other is false when looking at the stat sheet. They are both very close in performance and style.

The 4c is very similar to the Lotus Elise in the sense that the value won't necessarily increase, but it will continue to stay the same. It's too obscure of a car. I honestly believe the Giulia QV has a better chance of becoming a classic because it's the only high horsepower super sedan they have ever made.

My take on the C7: It is far more important than anyone will give it credit for. It was the launching pad that stylistically bridged the gap to the C8. If you go straight from the C6 to the 8, people would have lost their minds even more. Remember how purists were getting pitchforks over the C7 not having oval/rounded taillights? Multiply that by 100 if you threw that on top of all the other C8 changes without the C7. The C7 offered a buffer stylistically, and finally made people start thinking the Corvette could stand alongside Euro exotics. Maybe not surpass them, but you put that beside a Ferrari California and it is going to get just as many looks. In a way I think the C2 did the same, asserting the vette as a true sportscar. The C7 helped break the vette free of restrictions so the C8 could thrive. Also the C6 is the worst looking vette, Alanis.

You missed the obvious future-five-star collectible. Ford Fiesta ST. All the money in the world won't buy agility like that anymore. They made enough for a lot of people to have one and remember it, and then discontinued it without replacement just as the first few years' worth of buyers wanted another one, and Fiestas were cheap enough that people treated them as disposables.

Funny how you bashed it, raked it over the coals, and called it a "total failure", and then a few years later after selling them on your bid site you now think that they should be future classics. It has been called one of the finest performance sedans ever produced, and compared to and even surpassed in some reviews and opinions the venerable and infamous E39 M5. You say nobody bought it, even though every single SS produced and imported from Australia was sold, with no marketing, no commercials, only 2 and then 3 options, gas guzzler tax, poor fuel mileage and "so so" looks. The SS was no failure Mr. DeMuro, but your first video on it five years ago certainly was. I will add that video, titled "Here's why the Chevy SS was a total failure" to the always expanding list of things that didn't age well. Good to see you finally respect it, even though it took profiting off of it to open your eyes.

I still find it fascinating how Americans can consider 97hp in a 2 seater city car underpowered. Here in Europe even some new cargo vans have less power and people are doing totally fine with that.
@E38Bimmer35

When everyone is driving a 1L diesel hatchback or van, perhaps 97hp is average. Here in the US, we have room to have big, powerful cars. We often need to merge onto highways in a hurry or tow trailers. 97hp is borderline dangerous here if you go beyond city streets. We don't need tiny cars.
@Cptn080
@Cptn080 Жыл бұрын
@@bwofficial1776 I really don't get it. I got a 150hp Volkswagen Passat wagon, can do 230 kph (~140 mph) on the Autobahn today and tow a 2 ton (~4000 lbs) trailer tomorrow with no issues. If you need to tow more often, a Midsize Diesel SUV will do, they usally can tow up to 3500 tons (~7000 lbs). For anything bigger, I really can't understand why you're willing to use your everyday car for that. Maybe it's the different gas prices or some historic developments. But anyway, It's no problem to get around with 70 hp in a small car, I used to have a VW Polo with that power and it still was no problem to flow with highway traffic. I frequently did abot 160 kph (~100 mph) with it on the Autobahn. And 150 hp in a family car is also more than enough for a family car like I have now. Edit: my Passat reaches about 35 to 40 mpg in everyday use.
@Cptn080
@Cptn080 Жыл бұрын
@@E38Bimmer35 for a sedan or a midsize wagon, yes. But in a Cygnet sized like a Smartcar, it's more than enough. For comparison: the high end Brabus tuned Smartcar avaible here has only 125 hp and is considered crazy overpowered by Europeans.
@E38Bimmer35
@E38Bimmer35 Жыл бұрын
@@Cptn080 Its not... Nobody considers a 125 hp Smart overpowered, its decently powered for its weight and its fun, but not overpowered. The majority of people in europe, or atleast in germany buy rather decently powered cars nowadays, the cars under 100hp are a minority. And european cars even started the horsepower wars back then...
