Yeah, when we look back in a few decades, I imagine this interior will age extremely well. One of the issues with cars from the modern era is the fact that the tech will be so dated or viewed as tacky in the future. "Remember when we were putting iPads in car interiors? That was so ridiculous." - People in the future Or, everything will just be self driving and the whole car will be an infotainment system...

I had a 2012 A7 and it made me feel so special (that sounds kinda weird, but you know what I mean) every time I climbed in. It was maxed out on the. interior trim and every surface you touched was metal - a trick that BMW and Mercedes never figured out - and it just gave you a solid experience every time, and was super quiet to boot. For the midrange car it was an extremely high quality experience and still looks good today.

R8 has a special place in my heart as its the first sports car i got to drive because the guy that owned it was the father of a kid i use to give rides home from highschool a lot. We didnt go like insane with it but it was a fun and very nerve wracking experience.

The missing center screen is not a bad thing in my opinion, Doug brought up that argument on other cars: Basically this will age much more gracefully since most screens will just age very badly.

Exactly, and it is NOT a sign that the R8 is old. More or less all other Audis at the time had a center screen - incuding the first generation R8! It was a concious decision by Audi to get rid of the center screen in this R8, and was quite unusual when it came out.

This is apples and oranges though. Cars like this are collectables, so a center screen would hurt that aspect. A Honda accord has a shelf life of 10 -15 years, so taking away the screen would just take away usability.

I owned a 2008 Audi R8 V8 and then later in 2012 a 2011 Audi R8 V10 Spyder (both Manuals) I do prefer the Look of the older ones, especially the Front but in general that Car and i'm sure i'm not the only one But that said, Audi R8s are very reliable, never had serious Issues with any of them and i actually drove mine regularly. I've bought an '09 R8 V8 about 6 months ago and even if I had all the money in the world, I would still get a Gen 1 over a Gen 2. Totally agree with you that front end looks so much better, but for me it's the Gen 1 side blades that REALLY do it for me. That coupled with the gated manual, heel toe-ing down the gears... One factual correction, its official name is "R8 V10 GT RWD", according to Audi "paying homage to the original GT" with the GT badging... but is technically not really the new "R8 GT". A great car on paper, but falls short of changes the original GT had... I've made a whole video on this, but in short: the original GT went so much further - it didn't even have the same chassis code it was that different to the stock cars. Still, this new car is cool, but even Audi's official press info admits it's not quite a GT.

The R8 road car was named after the R8 LMP race car, but the number in the name being the same as the cylinder count was a coincidence I think. The R8 LMP had an 8 cylinder engine, but the R10 had a V12, the R15 had a V10 and the R18 had a V6🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔

Iconic car. A true case study for how to properly create a halo car and use a very popular movie to market it, with Tony Stark driving one in the Iron Man movies. I remember seeing the original for the first time at the Atlanta auto show and been enamored by it. It set the the styling trend for the day-time running lights that we see in basically every car now, and captured the imagination of so many young people. Still my dream car! Hopefully one day I can get one, maybe even a v10 version if they don’t get out of reach!

Well said and I can relate 100%. I had a Gen 1 R8 on my dream board for many years...until I finally was able to afford one. I picked up a Gen 1 in Sepang Blue, V10 with a gated manual. I've owned it for years now and still pinch myself that I own such an amazing piece of machinery. The values have shot up over the pandemic but you can still find V8's and V10's w/ the R-tronic gearbox for a decent price. Keep grinding! It can happen!

I keep seeing these "thanks for the memories" comments, am I missing something? I do get it is an end to the R8 and the V10 era, but it's not like someone has passed away, never to make new memories with, it's just something that you can't buy brand new anymore. Which to most people means nothing in reality as we can't afford it new. Gen 1 R8s (relative to current R8s) are so cheap now that it's more attainable than ever. This time in the R8's life cycle should be celebrated as it's late enough for the prices to have hit bottom but early enough before they claim their practically inevitable "classic" status and raise in value. Should this not be more of a hello than a good bye?

This car is a collector's item and an ugly screen in a car like this would be tacky. I prefer dials and buttons any day. I'm also glad this car has a cd player!

The nice thing about this car is that you can actually see the engine, it’s not under a plastic shroud that only an engineer can access. You can access the engine. Just like how you used to be able to in all modern exotics. Most now have some sort of shroud like McLaren etc

I think the switch for exotic sports cars from ICE to electric and hybrid power trains is entirely about optics. Regular commuter cars are also the same to a certain extent. But Volvo put out a study where they estimate an electric car would need to be driven 60k miles to break even with a comparable ICE car in terms of overall carbon emissions (from manufacturing and energy consumption). Considering these exotic cars are hoarded and driven only a few miles every year, it might actually be more detrimental for these type of cars to become electric rather than if we just let rich people have their toys. The only reason why this is happening is because given the current political climate on environmental issues it becomes distasteful for rich people to be seen driving around in loud V12 and V10 cars that are seen as excessive and polluting by the general public. But considering how few miles they put in these cars the biggest environmental impact is manufacturing emissions considering how many of them they purchase to stuff in their car collections and since we dare not tell people what they can or can't buy then we don't have any control over that.

I still remember the first time I saw an Audi R8. It was 2008 and I was driving out to LA to check out the Museum of Tolerance and on my left hand side an R8 rolled by in the carpool lane all smooth. That car was good looking then and still good looking now.

I think all manufacturers need to take a look at this interior. It's perfect! No infotainment is a plus for me, it all looks modern, stylish and sporty to me. Maybe even timeless! Love the dials for the climate controls, everything about it. In my opinion it's absolutely NOT dated at all! But opinion differ ofcourse

I propose "RS10" for the next gen so they can finally fix their lineup and naming scheme. A3/S3/RS3 through A8/S8/RS8. At the very top: RS10. Then you have your E-tron line.

I kinda like the door having the ac vents. Feels like it would blow air on you better if done right.

It just moves it closer to the individual, which limits the range of the vent.

Ah yes, the features that cost $40k normally are now “standard” but we’re charging an extra $90k for the car itself. Doesn’t seem like a very good value proposition to me lol. In all seriousness, I love Audi and the R8. Hopefully they’ll come out with something even cooler.

My favorite is the facelifted Spyder version of the 1st generation. It looks so cool and with the roof down you hear the V10 sing.

Doug the interior of the R8 is pretty much kind of what they have done with the Veyron and Chiron avoiding screens to make it timeless. They didn’t do it as much as they did in Bugatti, but I look that as a great thing in the interior design of the car. I only wish that they kept the gauge cluster analog instead of digital.

When he said very special car to poke around in, I had a flashback of him accidentally scratching the leather on the Aston Martin, never did encounter any closure on that piece of leather! Long time fan!
