You're right Make it your own. Many people try to make exactly what you curve That's very difficult to do. Lot of the other sites I go to you see the same figure all the time it would be a spirit or anything like that Paul

Thanks Doug 👍. I can't draw, like at all, but when I see a finished carving I can make it my own and recreate a similar finished product and love doing it! Just a knife (added a small gouge and a V tool) like you suggested in your what do I need vid and I'm going for hours!

Doug great video. Always the enjoy them. Like you said, always make them your own. Even if you make the same one over and over they will always be different, you can't always make them exactly the same.

Nice!!! Your comment in the beginning, about size, was spot on. I spent a year carving nothing but the simple Santa's...42 of them, at 1x1x6. Then I went to carve something out of a 2x2x6...OMG, what a difference. That will take some getting use to. Thanks for the inspiration!

Thank you so much for another tutorial for us beginners. By the way, you are "guilty" of having myself engaging in this beautiful, relaxing and rewarding hobby. Thanks to you, I found in what spend my free hours now that I'm retired. Well... not that much "free hours" and not that much "retired" when you have two daughters and four grand-kids that ask for help int heir day-to-day duties, but anyway... any minute free is dedicated to learn, try, and advance in woodcarving. Thank you very much, Doug. Keep up the good work in your channel and never stop gifting us with your videos.

Great to see you back with a new tutorial. I really enjoy the way you teach woodcarving these basswood caricatures. I finally got around to making a carving that is original to me...a cartoon whale for my daughter and granddaughter. Thank you for all you have taught me.

I would think that cut to the underneath of the hat brim might be called an undercut to make a curve of the head. I don’t whittle but my grandfather did and I really want to give it a try. Thanks for the encouragement. 🤟🏼🤍
