I fog my hives with mix of everclear and ox acid. Is this method more effective?

That is a fantastic question! Thanks so much for watching and commenting. I'll give you my thoughts below: First of all I have not used the everclear fogger method to do a comparison. The biggest problem I see with it is dosage. You never really know how much Oxalic Acid you are giving a hive when you fog them for 4 seconds or whatever time amount is being used. The foggers all heat up a little differently and some get good fog and some squirt hot alcohol. Here is a link to a study done on OA treatments that shows too much OA is less effective at mite control. hal.archives-ouvertes.fr/hal-00892183/document Secondly most of the beekeepers that were jumping on the fogger method and promoting it on KZbin have now moved on to the Pro Vap 110. I believe most of them have said that the foggers were not as effective at killing the mites as initially thought. I tend to follow the more commercial beekeepers and most use the Pro Vap 110. I have seen my mite count in the fall be below 1% which is working for me. Really the only way to know is to test your mite count before and after a fogging session and decide if it is low enough to keep your bees healthy and alive. I find it hard to believe that if a person has to wear PPE like this, that it doesn’t effect the bees and the honey in the future. I understand that a beekeeper needs to do something. For all the cancer causing stuff out there that we subject ourselves too. Curious as to other methods food for thought-back in the 70’-early 80’s the counties in northern mn sprayed all the ditches with pesticides with what they said was safe. Turns out it was far from that.

What other methods have you tried that were less successful? I only have 2 hives right now and cant justify a $500 vaporizer... what would be a good alternative vaporizer for smaller beekeeper. Oh by the way.... enjoying my bee's over here in NWI too! Hello fellow beekeeper!

What if you leave a honey super on? Can you still treat with PRO-VAC?

If you follow the guidelines for applications you should remove the honey supers before treating.
