Douro River Cruise Review Uniworld, AmaWaterways and MORE!

We did go to a beautiful vineyard(Sandeman) on the Douro, although we haven't done a cruise yet. We visited quite a few cities in Portugal from Lisbon to Porto. Loved everything we saw and ate in Portugal. Very beautiful country. Great food, great wine. We will do a cruise on the Douro in the future for sure.

Thanks for the helpful interview! When the boats raft together at night, are the engines off, like on the Danube, or running all night to power the boat like the Nile? I'm interested in this cruise but have read comments that it was difficult to sleep from noise and fumes.

I polled our little family of advisors and it confirmed my experience. No worries over noise or fumes on the rivers in Europe. We did not experience anything like that on the Nile either although judging by some of the scows we saw on the Nile I could see that it could be an issue if you were tied up alongside. @@askarealtravelexpert Thanks for the answer! The only other complaint for this cruise I've read several times was night time noise in Porto from bars by the docking areas. The gorgeous day time cruising and a wine tour make for a relaxing vacation. Every company looks to offer a nice ship and excursions, hard to choose!

This is a tad out of date -- Scenic has an 11-day cruise on the Duoro -- that visits Salamanca -- I am booked on the Unforgettable Douro with Lisbon (3 days) pre-cruise in April 2025 -- can hardly wait. I believe Scenic has shorter cruises that likely go to Salamanca.
