And in addition to saving money on feed, you've improved the soil on all that land, which will then improve your feed returns in the coming years. A truly virtuous cycle!

I live in north Mississippi too. I’m looking for Berkshire pigs. Where did you get them? I can’t find them anywhere. I haven’t been to any auctions.

If you can’t find them locally we will have some for sale in early December. Just west of Nashville TN

Dear Mr. Dowdle, do the pigs keep your farm from being overgrown by kudzu? I don't know anything about livestock or farming but I understand that MS has a terrible kudzu problem and am wondering if the pigs like it.
@DowdleFamilyFarms10 ай бұрын
I think our pigs will eat the kudzu, but typically the cows come through and eat it over the fence before the pigs can get to it. If left in the spot with growing kudzu, cows will kill it by continually grazing it and depleting the root reserves. Yes, MS has a lot of kudzu and it takes over all the wild spots without livestock to keep it back.

You should try okra

We have used it but finding a cheap source can be a challenge. Cows eat it but pigs don’t

Do y'all feed them corn or mill
@DowdleFamilyFarms Жыл бұрын
We do feed them a standard hog ration yes. That’s the grain or feed that I reference in the video. However, we reduce it dramatically by grazing them on cover crops at certain times of the year.

What kind of hemp? I know of three different types! None are supposed to be grown in Mississippi.
