I remember this performance like it was yesterday. I was on the second to the top floor. A little ways into the song, this woman left her room and joined in. She knew the part in everything. After we had finished, she told me and my roommates about how she had sang this song before. I had assumed it was something she had sang in church maybe a year or so ago, but it turns out the last time she had sang this was when she sang in an Allstate choir in New York, about 10 years ago. That really stuck with me. Her story really showed me how music stays with you. No matter where you are or however long it’s been, when a piece of music means a lot to you, it becomes engraved into your mind, and so do the memories that go along with it.

I have always lived with music anhedonia (age 47). I'm incapable of enjoying or having any type of emotional reactions to music. My brain just hears music as another noise. I've never understood how people can "feel" music, until I watched this video. Something about this choir, singing this song, in this location, gave me an emotional response for the first time ever in my life. I got goosebumps at 1:09, and even had a few tears a few moments later. That was amazing. Because of this reaction, I quickly searched for other versions of this song and ended up with my typical response. I hear it, but I don't feel it. I even watched other videos of this choir performing different songs and had no reactions of any kind. Something about this specific performance is able to bring emotion out from within me when no other music before, or since, has managed to do so. I am utterly stunned. Thank you so much for this.

Not a religious person, but I imagine that this is what heaven would be like. Everyone is just a silhouette, no race or color, because it doesn't matter. There is beautiful music being sang by amazing voices. There is you another silhouette among the many. Standing there in absolutely awe as you begin to feel a sense comfort and safety that you have never felt before. You feel as if you could do anything you wanted to do, but whenever you want to do it. Because you're not being held to any type of standard or expectation. Or having to get things done in any type of time frame because time doesn't exist. Its a freeing feeling that reminds you of being a kid again.

Absolutely. We did this with my college marching band, where one of the hazing/initiation things was all of the upperclassmen on the upper levels of the main historic building on campus, and the freshman are walked in to the lower level, told to start singing the band's song, and then halfway through everyone joins in. My senior year was the first time we did this, but it was universally regarded as magical by everyone involved, freshman all the way up to seniors. The singing wasn't as great as this, but the sense of unity and shared beauty of being together, doing the same thing in a beautiful space, it doesn't get much better than that.
@lenie.kreide4350 Жыл бұрын
Moments like these are the true reason people love singing in a choir. The pure beauty of so many voices singing together in harmony is overwhelming. My choir once went to London and we had many performances. One of them was in a museum. It was without any promotion beforehand and a spontaneous audience. But it was the most wholesome and beautiful experience I ever had in a Choir in almost 15 Years. The acoustics were great, our sound levitated in this huge hall an people stopped to listen. We were spread out in this Hall forming a circle, singing to each other. It was magical. And in this moment a few tears went down, because I knew how special this moment was.
