Great way to improvise! You can find the tool to strip bottles into cordage on the internet. The bottles can be found almost everywhere as trash.

Great information Blackie, didn't know you can heat up the plastic to make it shrink. Guess you just have to make sure you don't melt it. Thanks! 👍

the zipper on your haversack needs a little beeswax rubbed on it, I do that whenever I have to deal with a sticky zipper. Nice upcycle, trash to cordage (and shrink wrap if you need that)

Blackie just a suggestion so that you don’t have to hold the bottle when you pull to cut cordage. You may make a lengthwise saw cut on that horizontal piece of wood then you slip the bottle into the cut. That way the piece of wood is holding the bottle steady while you pull on the strip that you initially made. Now how deep you put the bottle into that cut will determine the width of the cordage you are making.

Thank you, Mr. Thomas! The "zip ties" may be the greatest single thing you've ever done! BTW, where I'm at I have a devil of a time finding paracord. I was at wallyworld today & I almost bought some "14 strand" paracord, 50' for ~$9. But I didn't because I just don't know about it. If you would, *PLEASE!* consider a video on 'normal' cordage. I've got a hank of Harbor Freight "paracord" but it don't have 'strands' in it. Since I bought that junk I've been ascared to buy any more, you know, once burnt, twice shy. So consider it another episode of "Blackie's Bushcraft Basics" & tell us all about it. Thank you in advance for your kind assistance, I sincerely appreciate it. Have a GREAT day, Neighbor!

Saw a video of a guy in Switzerland rigging that bottle up with his Swiss army knife to so that he could just pull the strip of plastic and walk away and pull off 10 foot strips smooth as silk. He then braided three pieces for a bow string. He took the bottle and some sticks and made a bow, bow string and an arrow with plastic fletching and shot a chocolate bunny from 20 feet away showing what could be done with the swiss army knife. He took two pieces of stick and wrapped them with the plastic string and heat shrinked it down tight to make a bow from two pieces of wood.

There's an Oriental KZbin channel that used a utility blade tapped into the edge of a table with a spacing nail. He then fed the plastic into the blade, grabbed the end with pliers and pulled it through. Does the same thing with tires, etc. to make sandals.

In Oregon those bottles are 10 cents each. When you are in need though, 10 cents isn't much.

There are videos of guys building a "jig" using utility knife blades, framing and a drill to make this stuff very quickly out of 2 liter bottles. They cut it almost as thin as fishing line and this stuff is stout.
