The turbines do like to squirm about while trying to wire them up don’t they. A lot of the Tesup turbines use a similar in pipe mount. Fits in any schedule 40 pipe. What I did to secure mine was drill 4 holes in the pipe and cut a thread in it. The bolts then screw in tight against the turbine base. Seemed to work good for me. Has survived some ferocious weather. Very interested in how this one performs. I like the smaller turbines purely for ease of maintenance and mounting. They are great fun to experiment with.

When I had my i500 up it seemed it wouldn't spin unless the wind speed was enough to make power. At one point in a storm I saw 30 Amps out of it(50-60mph winds) and it actually burnt up the rectifier in the ista breeze charge controller that came with it. I am really interested in seeing your results

I am a touch skeptical about the blades but we'll see. We got the snow the news said we'd get today, but so far the wind hasn't come...which is fine, it lets the kids play in the snow, but I'm eager to see what this thing does in a good breeze.

Another question. I am almost ready to order the ista i500. I cannot do more because I am inside city limmits. I do have a question. I'd like to order the charging cabinet. It looks pretty solid. They are not speaking or writing English too well. Have you seen the cabinet, it is sufficient to prevent over charging?

The ista i500 haas a 36,5 mm inward pipe. it could rain in the pipe. That is our concern too as we do have 48 mm pipe. Or we'd have to weld 37 into 48 mm. 37 mm is also available. If you need a piece for your welding. We would like Ista to do a 48 mm clamp.

I'm not sure what you mean by an inward pipe...there was nothing on this turbine that would allow rain to enter it.

In the short while I've had it I have had similar feelings...it takes a lot of wind to get it going. I'm hoping it'll loosen up after a couple months and maybe come into some easier power.

Someday i will live on a cliff face over looking the ocean and find a use for wind turbines. Until i hit the lottery and can move i'll keep adding solar panels and batteries to my array. 4,800w PV over 13 years and 15kwhrs worth of lithium battery storage. We panic when there is 3 days of clouds in a row. 6,500w back up generator is used a few times per month. Still not sold on wind power for our area as its always 3 to 5mph unless the 30mph to 45mph storms rip through a few times per year.

Do you have a video on putting together, raising and then connecting the wind turbine to a stand so that it's secure? I want to be sure when I put it up the stand is secure. Also is there a way to quickly disconnect and remove the turbine in the event of winds that might be to strong i.e. hurricane? Thanks for everything.

Hi! This video shows the post/mount the 400 was on/the i500 is on now somewhere around the 9 minute mark I think. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qISnlnR7itWKjpY These small turbines don't need much in the way of high wind protection. If the wind is blowing too hard and it's causing problems I short the leads from the turbine. This will effectively bring it to a stop in any wind. It doesn't work as well doing that with larger turbines, they need a furl or something to pull them out of the wind, but it works great with the little ones.

So far I have't had a turbine come off a tower or break apart and I get some pretty wild wind here. It's easier for me to dismiss the concern, though, because the closest house to my gear is mine and it's 100 yards away. I would think you'd be pretty safe, though, assuming your pole is heavily secured. The biggest concern to the turbine itself is wind speed either over-spinning the rotor and centrifugally shearing the blades, or flexing them into your tower...both problems would be eliminated with a brake. Beyond that, if your tower is secured properly, should the wind gets strong enough to throw the turbine into the neighbor's house it'll probably also take your patio furniture and maybe your car over there too :)

Just got the iSta Breeze i500 I'm new to this, I've been messing with solar panels for almost a year now. From what I have seen about wind turbine setups on other YT videos, looks like everybody uses deep cycle golf cart batteries, or some type of sealed lead acid battery. I do have a couple 6 volt golf cart batteries laying around. Then acquired some AGM batteries. Now I've been purchasing LiFePO4 for my solar. It looks like I can use LiFePO4 batteries in my system if I run my wind turbine wires into an mppt solar/wind charge controller. But the other way I see wind turbines setup, is to run those 3 wires thru a rectifier with a dump load, maybe less expensive that way to go. Then I only see them using golf cart battery banks in these rectifier setups. Just wondering if these mppt solar/wind charge controllers are any good.

Any way you go the voltage from the turbine has to be rectified into DC. There are some controllers out there that will accept AC voltage, but they have integrated rectifiers. And any way you go you will have to use some kind of automatic brake...ESPECIALLY with lithium batteries. The i500 is luckily a low enough output turbine that you get some room for error, but it still needs to have a controller that can brake/dump the turbine in the event of an over-voltage situation. If you already have a battery bank set up the best thing you can do is run the power into that bank. You will need a proper mppt charge controller to do this though I'm not a great source for what models to look at...I don't use them myself and, as a result, I frequently blow up batteries. I would advise you to check out "DIY wind turbine makers" on facebook and ask there...lots of people far more knowledgeable than me on that particular subject there. You can also hit up "ISTA BREEZE Wind Turbine Owners" also on facebook just to share the project as you go along :)

Hi! Could you please compare the dimensions of the magnets on the rotors. In my 800W (ha, ha) turbine, they are 18x13x3mm in size. Visually, they are smaller than yours. On several videos of similar turbines I noticed that they had thicker magnets (approx. 5mm) which resulted in more power.

bugger...I usually measure the magnets and post that information...they are probably 5~6mm thick but I didn't measure width and length on this one. What turbine do you have?

Can you get a link to the one you bought? It's really hard to get a bench test to reflect real life conditions...as the rpm increases the load increases and a lot of drills really struggle to keep up. Without a lathe with a large motor capable of overcoming that resistance it really can only be counted on to confirm the stator does in fact work. I've gotten pretty low bench results from all of my turbines.

Did I understand correctly that you installed a rotor with larger magnets from another turbine when mounting it on the mast? In the video from the modification of this turbine, I noticed that the magnets are from another. This confirms my assumption that changing the magnets may affect the performance. What do you think about tom?

They source some of their manufacturing from Asia and some of their turbines are a less than thrilling (I was never particularly pleased with the i500), most of their manufacturing is in Istanbul...so, even if you do think they're junk, they are technically (by a few miles) European junk :D. I hae played with a LOT of Chinese turbines, though, and the quality and performance difference, particularly at iSta's price point, is tremendously different.
