The song Joe plays on the piano on the 4th floor is actually "The Noises She Make in Their Bed" by Warmer, the one-man music group by Jesse Gunn, who is also the VA for Joe.

Agnes is such a cool, wholesome character in this version of the game, and the voice actress did such a good job making her fun and likeable. I found Downfall Redux not quite as compelling and moving as The Cat Lady, but some of the imagery and atmosphere in this really stuck with me for some time after playing. Great job covering the whole series, really happy to have found these videos!

This game in particular for some reason has stuck in my head for YEARS, I never even played any of them just seen play throughs of all the games and for some reason this one’s story just sticks out to me and I still have random thoughts about it years later, unprovoked and is one of my favorite stories of all time in movies or games, even the imagery and sounds stick in my head (all in a good way) this game is such a gem and I truly don’t think will ever leave my head

Great vid! Can't wait to hear your opinion on Lorelai too 👀 Here are some thoughts again (sorry it's pretty long lol but I hope I can add something to your reading of the game): While the Cat Lady was about healing, I think this game is a very profound tragedy of two people in love who just refuse to change for the better. Obviously Joe is very much the aggressor and Ivy is the victim but neither are very eager to change their behaviors in ways that would benefit them or each other. Ivy refuses to get treatment or help and Joe is very adamant on fixing Ivy to the point of disregarding her actual wishes completely (very cleverly foreshadowed in the opening cutscene with Joe already being too pushy and Ivy already being rejective). I read killing the four Sophies as Joe trying to snuff out parts of Ivy to stop her illness. Except like you said in the Cat Lady video, a mental illness is a part of someone and trying cutting them out like you would cut out the brown part of a banana would only do harm. Which is why I think that Ivy and Joe were both responsible for Ivy's death. Because I see the plot as an inevitable tragedy the way I read the endings is that no matter what it ends in tragedy. Sure, the golden ending might bring Ivy back somehow but neither of them changed and they continue making the same mistakes they did before. That's why I think choices like choosing a poison or shooting yourself/not shooting yourself don't matter. It strenghtens the theme of unstoppably barreling towards an inevitable doom. I also prefer how Joe's descent into madness is a lot more subtle here because a) it doesn't demonize psychotic mental illnesses and b) it hammers home the fact that every person is capable of doing stuff like this. The first two deaths (his brother and mother) weren't even his fault, the cat was accidental, the first Sophie's murder was consensual, the second was indirect. The third was on purpose, but to be fair that smoothie would have probably killed the third Sophie even without the deadly ingredients. And finally the fourth one was completely purposeful against a party who didn't "help out" so to speak. Joe definitely becomes more murderous throughout the story but his personality is pretty much kept the same because even murderers are not CrAzY. Their actions are deplorable but they didn't come from nowhere. And very importantly you don't have to be a horrible evil monster to do such things. Agnes is the part of Ivy Joe fell in love with and considering how different she is from the actual Ivy it's easy to see that she might be Joe's very distorted rose-colored-glasses way of viewing Ivy. And it wouldn't be outlandish to say that it would distort his view of whether Ivy wants help or not imo. Agnes was supposed to be a red herring-ish character the way I see her, she's telling Joe to help Ivy because that's what Joe thinks Ivy would want if she wasn't mentally ill. She's very fun regardless.

1:06:30 I think this makes the implication that in Susan becoming the worst version of herself, she becomes the successor of the eye of adam ie one who glorifies death and feeding into the worst parts of youself.

I would hug Sophie, and be friends with her and Agnes. Those girls need protection. As for the brother, I could not take the scene seriously with the South Park like dialogue and me thinking of the Spongebob pie bomb episode. The voice actors did a good job, and the Harvester's game dialogue is the best part about these game series.

Okay… but hear me out… Humans… humans sometimes say the opposite of what they really want. Because, especially those with trauma, it is easier to guide things back to the crap that you are used to. To tell people whatever it takes to get back to your status quo instead of moving into something fresh. New territory, even healthy territory, can be scary or “a lie” that we tell ourselves. We convince ourselves that the crap is not only all there is but that all things will always come back to it. Women will guide it that way with words more often then men will. Men TEND to just shut down and disconnect, neglecting the other person and either doing what makes them feel like they tried or doing things that make the eventual failure easier to endure.

30:21 might also be an Egg and a nodd to Tellate Games The Walking Dead, or Telltale adventure games in general. "x will remember this" is constantly used and played with in those games after dialogue options and choices. I can only recommend those games if you haven't played them, they might even be worth doing a video on

Probably wrong, but mini theory on the elephant decorum. If we're going with the mentality of holding yourself back due to the past; maybe its the training an elephant to be bound by rope. They start when the elephant is young with chains and as adults they are so traumatized that a single rope can be bound around an elephants heel and it won't attempt to move because it thinks it's heavily bound. So the young girl ivy was bound by her mother and the main guy is bound by the death of his brother. I'm guessing thats why he was rewarded at the end for not giving up on ivy; he broke the symbolic rope. Idk I kind of like the older version more; for the reason of why the right intentions and the wrong way can cause more damage then you think. I got a more you can't love mental illness out of someone and sometimes you have to call it quits if it hurts another or if it prevents you from taking care of yourself. There's not really a one true way for the complexity of the human mind; that's kind of why we try different things until it works and is a healthy way of coping. Not going to lie the new cut scenes were cool and I adore Agnes in the remake.Thank you for covering these games as I dont play a lot of them, but I do like experiencing new forms of media and trying to understand why it's so appealing can't wait to finish up this series and see what you coming up next. ❤
