Great video! Helps push me over the edge to do my own fretwork. Say; 'don't know if you're aware, but note that you can also wave an active tuning fork over the pickups to check pickups wiring sanity.

09:37 Polyester? Doesn't Fender use Polyurathane not Polyester? I'm confused.

Wouldn't it be better just to sand off the finish and respraying it after the refret? I'm trying to do that with my 90s Strat copy by some unknown polish builder. It's called Jim Harley but despite the cheap price and the body being of MDF boards it has a really tight neck pocket and is overall a really good guitar. Only thing problem I have is that the neck is very whippy and I wondered if carbon fiber rod inlays would be a good idea. I just don't know how much damage it will do if I remove the fretboard.

That sounds like a lot more work. I usually don’t try to make more work for myself. I am a busy boy.!!! 🧒

Nice work! Maple boards are a pain. I have one that I’ve considered regretting just out of preference for larger frets, but I’ve only done refrets on rosewood. I may give it a try

Though I’ve never tried it myself, I saw a guy used a little cheap compass to check the polarity on an S S S Strat set up. He held it off the same end on all three pups and they all pulled the South arrow towards the pups. So he flipped around the middle pickup and it then pulled the north arrow toward the pup. Makes sense sense, I guess.

Nice work. How about a music video thrown in where you play a song or two? I’m sure a few of us would like to hear it.

@@harpethguitar I looked it up and it says that most sources said polyurerthane although on their site they say they use all kinds of finishes from nitro to polyester.Maybe they changed it again.

I hope you don't get to wire a 3 pickup Les Paul according to the Schatten book :-)

How would you go about removing the poly finish entirely? I cannot for the life of me figure out why they ever coated the entire necks in such an awful finish!

Heat gun / Really coarse sand paper 80-100 grit. Finish with 220 before applying a sealer coat

Great work, Attention to detail. That's what it takes. I am way more impatient than you. I bet if you made a series of videos dedicated to fixing finishes, and even complete refinishes, in detail, People would buy them. I know I would.

@@harpethguitar Rosa String Works is producing a series of videos for sale I am interested in. I like your approach to finishes better and finishes are probably most wannabe luthiers' weakest link. You are an artist in that respect. If you had a step-by-step course on finishes I would be your first customer.
