As soon as I set the Upscaling to anything other than “Normal”, my frame rate drops through the floor. Smooth as silk if set on “Normal”, so I’m not not not touching it. RTX 2070 SUPER with latest drivers (as of August 2021). Massively useful having the options explained, though. Thank you so much.

That has to do with the resolution you run. Both settings for HD and 4K are described.

This is a really really useful video and explanation. Thankyou. I am pleased with how I currently have my set up and frame rates and graphics- update 6 was excellent for me- but this has helped me understand the settings better and I may do a little tinkering just to see if I can improve anymore. One of the most useful practical videos I have watched on Odyssey.

Great video, really helpful. My settings were a bit all over the place since I got a 3080, I hadn't spent the time to tweak it and my performance and image quality weren't ideal. I have it dialed in now at 1440p and it's a silky smooth locked 60 fps (capped) and my fans aren't blasting heat into my room. Thanks!

Blur is actually for the menus in stations, it makes them transparent instead of black background and blurrs everything behind it. Doesn't do much to performance.

What about any brightness/cotrast related settings ? I order to fix too bright lights (f/ex. in shipyard) and, at the same time, too dark shades (asteroid in ship light on dark side) ? They are fine in Legacy, but broken in Live/EDO. There is Gamma, but it could only fix either lights *or* shades, but not both.

Is there any way to make it so terrain isn't constantly morphing and shifting under your feet? It makes it really god damned disorienting while driving an SRV when the terrain keeps changing all the time. Even with all low settings, Ultra LOD Blending and maximum Terrain Work, the game keeps morphing the terrain every millisecond as if it's a shifting desert made of sand. This is ruining the game for me.

Where to reset the graphics to Default ... it crashes all the time after some adjustments .. only comes to menu but does not have time to change setup ... my rig 3770K and msi1080

You can reset your graphics settings by deleting or renaming the Graphics folder in %LOCALAPPDATA%/Frontier Developments/Elite Dangerous/Options. If that doesn't work, you might want to try the Options > Validate Game Files command from the launcher (just above Server Status).

Hi ASTRO. Are you having the HOTAS bug where your controller stops working with EDO? It kicked in around two months ago. I use an X52pro which I customize with macros so have 32+ keys mapped along with voice attach. With your fancy setup, I was wondering if you have the same issue?

It's most likely the drivers from Logitech. Uninstall them and use the Windows drivers. Looking at buying a HOTAS myself and in researching several people had that problem, said it was the official drivers causing the problem.

Since you have an RTX card, go into the Nvidia control panel>3D Settings and find the DLDSS and set it to something like 1.78x and set smoothing to 50-80% and you can use the card's AI to boost your frame rate and it pretty much removes the need for anti-aliasing (though I keep it on anyway lol).

@@eillswim Also the fact that you have to pay 35$ just to get out of your ship. It could have atleast come with the horizon dlc or just free. I don't get it why you should pay more just to get legs instead of just paying for the base game and getting it for free. What killed ED for me was ship interiors. I thought they would be added, but no. Apparently it would be too boring. But frontier doesn't realize that grinding for hours at a time or sitting in a taxi for 30 minutes would be boring aswell. Apparently that is quality gameplay.

That's cool I guess. I like that. But it's very confusing to do things. It takes forever to get to your ship as well. You have to pay big bucks to get different ship if you want them. The games meh. Rather play ED that's quite straightforward.

Same but rx 6800, god damn RX 6000's are monsters and look so damn sleek (sapphire here), and after being nvidia for the past 15 years and having to deal with the garbage geforce experience for the past 5, the radeon software is *so* much better it's not even funny. Not to mention the 6000's absolutely demolish the laughable amperes, oh noes we dont get shitty gimmicks like RTX cores that are 5 years out at best from being worthwhile (by which time AMD will already be on top of that too). And god damn do those 6000's run cool, it's absolutely disgusting how rdr2 at max settings 1440p barely spins the fans up to 600rpm and keeps temps around 74c, absolutely godlike. Though after dominating odyssey and getting all settlements + conflict zones running at ~100fps 1440p with ease, it feels like i finished odyssey.

Odyssey is much better than Horizons anyway you cut it.. Even the Mission Boards are better. Just the mission boards alone is a good reason to play Odyssey.. I even tried going back to Horizons and that lasted all of about 10 seconds after trying to use the Old Clunky Mission Board. Hell guys, I only wanted legs to get out and look around. Not as some kind of Battlefield 5 Wannabe Space Game. Maybe go scan a plant, or something or get a better look at a Alien building.. lol I am not a Pew Pew Guy.. If you have too, wait till its on sale on Steam or something.. but damn get Odyssey. Worst thing I can say about it is there are a few flickering lighting issues from time to time and the only real drawback I can see from Odyssey is... They removed the loading of weapons in the ship outfitting.. for some weird, odd, dumb, reason... and that needs to be changed. I restarted my game because it has been awhile.. I went straight from the first starter mission of Odyssey right into a ship and started grinding out missions.. and haven't even looked back. Maybe after I get some money Ill try some FOOT Missions.. maybe. I have walked around in some stations.. all I can say about that is.. Whoever picked the Bar Music at Frontiers needs to be fired.. lol I mean, who OK'd that crap lol.. The new mission board is a GEM.. Graphics seem better.. I will NEVER be clicking on Horizons.. There is no reason to. Graphics seem better, mission boards are awesome, and I get to walk around if I want.. Someone needs to check if your character gets squished on a high gravity world... lol. Splat..' This is awesome.. and I am probably NEVER going to FPS at all... and I still love it. Now that we have LEGS, anything is possible. Cannot wait for the NEXT ONE!

Every game nowadays is released by a deadline, not when its done, or even working, cause the entire industry is run by a Marketing Department, NOT Businessmen. Hell, if I had some money I would start my own Gaming Company.. Literally no Overhead, no Production Costs, and you can produce a product out of Thin Air.. All AMD FSR does is lower your resolution, which is why you get higher frames. You can just lower the resolution yourself, or create custom resolutions to use in the Nvidia control panel.

@@MyAmazingUsername That comment was made a year ago based on the FSR available at the time, where all it did was lower the resolution and increase the sharpness level so the game didn't look like a blurry, which is exactly what would happen if you lowered your resolution from 1080p to 720p. Today their upscaling technology is better, but still cheap, and requiring sharpening to hide that fact. In the past, I've compared FSR with me just lowering my resolution and applying sharpness, it looks exactly the same, and so was the frame rate. It's a cheap, free upscaler, and people are too lazy to care, probably like you. DLSS is still better.

@@suspectedcrab Nah, sir. What you said about FSR1 has never been true. FSR1 is a modified (optimized) Lanczos filter with CAS (Contrast Adaptive Sharpening). Letting the game scale itself without FSR1 is not as good as FSR1, since pretty much every game just uses a hardware bilinear filter in that scenario, which is terrible. It's true though that DLSS is better than all FSR variants, because it uses actual AI to recreate higher resolution pixels.

@@MyAmazingUsername Yes, but with FSR you're limited to certain quality levels, which lower the resolution to a specific amount, before it's upscaled. Creating custom resolutions and testing to see the best quality to performance ratio was better back then than FSR. In Elite Dangerous, it was straight up awful. I spent a painstaking amount of time back then comparing FSR at whatever % gave me a frame rate I was happy with vs. the native resolution is upscaling from. Its sharpening in ED was awfully generous. It doesn't matter to me anymore since I upgraded to an RTX card last year.

the settings dont even really effect FPS ..... test it.. go into space and turn on FPS counter... turn on everything on low.... then turn everything on ultra.... the change in FPS is so tiny it makes no sense just like frontiers dev team

I heard there are no concentrated material locations on planets now, you just have to search with your SRV scanner. Which is way more immersive, but the grind is worse I admit.

AMD FSR is an useless setting. And I do tell from experience and a Radeon 6900XT user. It is a worse solution than a band aid. It looks like crap and it is all jerky. I use SMAA 1.5 normal setting. With Ultra on the rest on 2k resolution. Except blur which I don't like.
