From a medical standpoint, it is actually possible for Matthew's spinal cord injury to have "healed", especially in those days when there was not as advanced medical practices. Spinal cord bruising or other muscular damages can result in moderate to temporary immobilization. As the swelling goes down and he healed it was found that he was not truly paralyzed. It's a real thing, check it out.

We watch downton abbey episodes periodically and love each and everyone of them; it would have been preferable if characters like Mathew Crawley had gone overseas to fulfill certain duties and obligations for a long period of time and then brought them back later to the drama series so we could enjoy seeing them again rather than killing them in the series. Maybe you can have an identical twin brother of Mathew be brought in the series or movie and bring out that Isobel hid that little secret. In that way Dan can return and Penelope can be happy again! Please bring this classic elegant show back…. Thanks.

After viewing all 6 series, I watched the first movie via On Demand, and now am going to watch the new movie this week at the theater. Surprised Dame Maggie Smith felt anonymous, when hers was the only face I recognized. I find it hard to believe Smith wasn’t known until Downton Abbey. Harry Potter is just as big if not bigger.

I don't know why Maggie Smith said no-one knew who she was. My mum was an extra in the film A Pride of Miss Jean Brodie and has followed everything Maggie Smith has done ever since. Mum told me Maggie Smith epitomises everything that is great in show business and is a true Dame. Lovely lady.
