In Seattle, back in the 80s, before light rail was added to the Downtown Transit Tunnel, we had the same setup. Busses would be electric inside the tunnel and diesel outside of it.
@ActionKid2 жыл бұрын
I’ve heard about that, interesting they had a similar setup there.

If you take the silver line FROM the airport TO Boston, it's free! And because it drops you off at South Station inside the gates, you can transfer for free to the red line.

It's certainly unique to see a hybrid electric/diesel bus. The ride was a bit bumpy but efficient for only $2.40! 👍 Thank you for sharing this informative bus ride to the airport, AK! 🤗

1:55 really stupid question but how well do those gates slow fare evasions? I like how the buses poles can attach automatically to the wires.
@bostonelevatorsaviation3 ай бұрын
As a local, it doesn’t slow fare evasion. Piggybacking is a big problem as the gates don’t close fast enough. Along with those that pry through without paying
@oceana92942 жыл бұрын
Interesting. That's a very economical way to travel to the airport and especially easy when you don't have to change to other buses or whatever on your journey. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the informative video AK. I flew into BOS a few years ago in November during a Nor’easter and it was crazy. The rain was blowing horizontally. Took one of those busses to the car rental center and it was a long ride from the terminal. I love Boston but the traffic is nuts too. I-93 was a parking lot. Love the T though and the people were friendly.
@ActionKid2 жыл бұрын
Yup, the traffic can be quite horrendous in the Boston area! Glad you were able to make it though.

If you are coming from the airport to south station, understand south station is the final stop. So there is no need to keep your luggage with you. Store your luggage and take a seat. Remember people will be getting on the bus after you did. Once you get to south station you will have plenty of time to get off the bus with your luggage.

The bus while at silver line way already made the conversion from electric to diesel. Why the bus operator walked to the back of the bus at silver line way is to tie the poles of the bus so they don't unsecure themselves from the hooking mechanism.

2:26-It's not really 'strange' it's just BRT (Bus Rapid Transit), a mode of transit I've taken before once a few years ago when I went to a nearby city to buy comics at a local comic book store (whenever I go, I usually take two normal buses to get to said store.)

When the bus goes above ground and the driver doesn't which it to diesel will it still run but on electric power instead or no since there's no overhead power lines when your above ground?

The Neoplan buses used on this route are tired. Im assuming the shimmy ride is in part due to the front half of the coach is longer than the rear section.

My goodness, these are considered as trolleybusses I guess. In Estonia we have these, on-ground, and also in other countries in EU👍☺But this going ONLY underground is also cool.

It could be a good and decent public transport option, but it looks rundown, very grayish and a bit unsafe. Better lighting and more color will make it more friendly, more safe and less cavernous and cramped at those underground stations. And the bumpy ride is more like a wooden roller coaster ride.
@Neville600012 жыл бұрын
IMHO, this would be better as a light rail line.
@stevenpagnani70052 жыл бұрын
This is supposed to be convenient for people coming from quincy or from South or Boston. Instead of taking the orange and the blue line or the green and blue line to go to the airport. This is free because you don't actually have to leave the station to transfer. There's also a separate building for greyhound busses

I think that is so cool a city bus riding in a subway tunnel.$2.40 subway fare vs $8 air train- $2.75 subway fare just to get to the airport🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️ Smh NYC we need to do better. That bumpy bus it reminds me of the old city buses of NYC when it hits a pothole
@stevenpagnani70052 жыл бұрын
The funny thing is. Their supposed to be bankrupt but the can still afford to build new stations. The stations that are outside and not underground. They should turn off the lights during the day or put them on a timer.

Good to show it. My last Bos visit in 2019 I stayed in Yotel in Seaport area. So learned and used the Silver line to the rest of the system at South Station. Pior to that, seeing MBTA map showing Silver Line the same graphically as all the rail of the "T" made me think it was a subway line. Being around on the street in South Boston (Silver Line is just a bus on the street there), looking for a "T" Silver Line subway was not a good thing. No signage informs anyone on this 'thing' and it is very bad for visitors.
@ActionKid2 жыл бұрын
It’s a bit misleading to show it on the transit map. When I first saw it I thought it was a rail line until I saw the bus!
@LuckyCharms777 Жыл бұрын
1) Articulated buses don’t have a comfortable ride, it’s the nature of their design. 2) It’s only $2.40 for you, taxpayers subsidize the rest of the fare. 3) What a fortunate bus operator to have such an easy route, he must have low seniority. No fares to collect, little, if any, interaction with passengers, and few trashy passengers. Lucky guy, but he surely earned it.
