Sensational job. If it’s possible could you give a longer version. I don’t think I could do it after watching this short video. I’m a tailor but still there’s a lot of specialist techniques that clearly make a difference. The end result was spectacular. Well done!

You are so talented. I'm not a tailor. Just a home sewer. I've tackled coats. I know how hard they are for someone not trained in doing coats. I learned by trial and error. This video really showed tips that would have made my attempt much easier. Thank you for time you put in, to put these videos out for all of us, regardless of level.

Dear Downtown Tailoring, I am writing to express my most sincere gratitude for sharing this video with us. Thanks to you I just managed to shorten a coat for the first time and I must say very successfully! I am an absolute beginner and I watched your video like 50 times while working. I've also learnt so much. Thank you so much! Now my coat really looks professionally shortened thanks to this video! I am looking forward to your next videos! Take care!

This is really good information. We can rescue good quality clothes from thrift stores or at the back of the closet and adjust them. It’s really nice that your client could wear her grandma’s great-looking suit. I remember making miniskirts and dresses long ago from old clothing that my grandmother sent to me.

Ditto! It does seem totally doable! Me being vertically challenged this is something I have struggled with my whole life. This will encourage me to buy what I like, instead of only what fits. I can’t wait to see the other videos she had coming on this coat... I just know they’re coming. And btw this coat is FAB U LOUS!

I have done this many times when making a jacket for myself. HOWEVER... I am not as skilled as you, and it seemed that the fabric was always fighting me. Sometimes I would have to put the project down and walk away for a few minutes to keep from ripping it to pieces in frustration. You have excellent skills. I hope your customers appreciate you and pay you well.

Thank you, love your channel 🌹 I have a question... do you have already a video on how to modify a coat to fit when a little bit too small? I have a beautiful coat I am in love with but it is a tad (maybe 2 tads) to small as well as the sleeves a bit tight. Is there a way to put some other similar material to expand the coat to fit? And this video is perfect too as I have a floor length nice redingote I want to shorten to a midi length, this video is just perfect! Thank you 🌹

I have a request please? Can you demonstrate taking in shoulders of a man's wool blazer please? I found a beautiful men's coat I want to wear but the shoulders are way to wide. Men's clothes fit different in the shoulders compared to womens clothes. I have a serger and sewing machine. But I'm not sure about the amount of ease for a stable wool jacket? It has small shoulder pads. This project is fabulous! And informative So glad your customer was able to save this from her family member. Classic pattern and style

Thanks! This is very helpful! One question/video request... Is there a way to alter sleeves in a coat to make them an inch longer? Ten years ago I bought a coat and the sleeves were too long. I had it altered, but they took a little too much. Now I have a sewing machine and I wonder if it's possible to lengthen the sleeves just one inch.

You do very good job , but if you make a video for educate , you should go slowly for people who want to learn. If you make a video for fun or just for show off how great you are ;so this video is ok for these reasons!
@DowntownTailoring Жыл бұрын
Hi! I’m so sorry I made you feel bad. 😔 But, you know, shorten a coat like that is one of the most advanced alterations someone can do. It requires a level of expertise a little bit more advanced than the regular alterations. I understand your frustration, but keep in mind that I try to make on my channel alterations for all levels, and this one is probably for the most experienced sewist, the ones who already have an alterations business and are looking for increasing the range they offer. They constantly ask for this level. Anyway, I feel that anyone can make this hem by going step by step while working and watching the video a few times. Let’s remember that it takes around 10 years to a tailor to master this and a 12 minutes video alone can’t make up for the different concepts learned over the years. Thanks so much for watching and I am 97% sure😅 that you can understand by going slowly step by step. Cheers ❤
@IMOO18963 жыл бұрын
You went to very detail to do and show what you’ve done. When the customer is wearing the coat it pokes out at the front where the left and right sides meet, this looks strange. Even tho you practically remake the coat because you had to cut down the size so much, the front opening should have been cut back also so that it lays flat rather than pointing forward.
@DowntownTailoring3 жыл бұрын
She tried it on with a bulky sweater that is pulling up the coat. Cheers 🙂
