Thank goodness I watched this before ripping into my jacket. Some of my instincts were OK, but this saved me a ton of errors. The biggest tip is after the jacket is entirely pinned, do the seam ripping and basting on one side and then model the other one on that. I couldn't believe how much better the jacket fit, once the shoulder was in the right place, it was almost like it was made for me. The sleeve fix is super useful too, as that was the other big issue with the jacket. THANK you sir. Well, done.

What a great video. I'm so surprised that taking the armhole forward doesn't constrict movement. I have some jackets and dresses that are too big in the same area and I never would have thought to move the sleeves forward. Thanks for coving all the basics of full-bodice alterations!

What a great video- the jacket needed so much work!! But it’s a beautiful jacket, very classic and looks gorgeous on you! I bought a 100% camel hair blazer - size 52!! It needs 2 1/2" off each shoulder, sleeves too big & too long….. I get so disgusted with it, throw it in a plastic bag to get rid of it for a while so I don’t have to look at it. It’s almost like remaking the whole thing. I can tell you there isn’t a tailor where I live who will touch any shoulder work!! So frustrating!! I love all your videos - you are amazing and very informative! Thank you so much! 💗💗

Thank you for uploading this tutorial. Been looking for weeks now of vids on the whole process of resizing a jacket. Thrifted a double breasted suit over a month ago for me to wear for my bestfriends wedding next month. I really don't want to spend on a new suit because I'm currently jobless because of the pandemic. As self taught in sewing ( pretty good at it too...hehe ), I do have aready an idea on my head in doing it but I'm scared I might mess it up especially in the armscye area.

Hi Louis, thank you for this tailoring video! Super advice, explanations, and guidance. I have been a home sewer since a teen, just to make things fit better, and I coped well with your pared down video with main goals highlighted, some detail, and tips from a pro. Ow I have two horse riding jackets, bought second hand but a size too large for me, to tailor down, and am going to give it a go after being inspired by your tutorial, thank you…

Helpful overview. I am about to practice on a Goodwill jacket I purchased before I work on the important jacket, so this video was helpful. Discussing some of the typical ways that suits don't fit and how that can be fixed would be helpful. For example, your suit was too large overall, but what about when the suit bunches horizontally just below the neck, or when the lapels don't sit flat on the chest but kind of bow outward. Identifying these issues and pointing out how to fix them as the suit is modified would be helpful. Thank for your work! One other minor point: the details of Blue and black suits are difficult to see on video. They kind of waste your hard work for us. Still, I appreciate what you have done.

Very helpful! Many of my husband's suits are too big. I can easily tailor the pants without difficulty, but intimidated to touch the jackets and mess with the lining. Now that I know what it involves, I have to decide if it is worth the time and effort. TFS

01:35 I don't understand why chalk would ruin the fabric. Surely it just rubs off, don't the pins do more damage? (I'm not a tailor.)
@AspiringGent2 жыл бұрын
It depends on the material and the chalk you use. I am using a wax chalk that turns clean when heat is applied. It doesn’t disappear just becomes transparent. So with a fabric like velvet sometimes that wax stays in the fabric because it has texture.
@jimmeven11202 жыл бұрын

As a woman whose job requires a suit (and is a novice seamstress), women's suits are awful. The least practical thing there could be is a fake pocket. A pen doesn't fit in there. I bought men's suits and had them fitted. The problem is the curve in the waist. They're pretty good but i don't think that the gentleman who tailored for me understood what I meant and they could be better. I bought another recently and wanted to make an attempt myself. After watching your video, I feel very confident! Thank you for this tutorial ❤ Here it goes... 🤞

Suit sleeves require a lot of time to put together. Time consuming process = more $$$. Personally I don't like messing with them. Not only they take time and also they never look the same after alteration. Suit sleeves was designed and cut to fit some specific arms. For most of suits, adjusting, shortening and tapering not worth it. While we can buy a 3 pieces modern fit suit for around $50 on sale... So, depending of the brand and value of the suit I prefer selling them and buying another modern fit suits. 🎀✂️👔🧥👋👋👏🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽 Personal experience as a tailor Designer..

Do you realize the cost of these alterations by a competent tailor? Unless it is a very $$$ bespoke jacket which should have fit perfectly when new this is the dumbest thing you could do because it will cost a fortune and totally destroy the balance of the garment.
