i think it's awesome that Adèle is so passionate about delving into a character's life and becoming them; about adopting their ideals and moral values to make the role seem more in depth and believable. it's almost like she feels burdened by fame an exposure, which makes me happy because i find comfort in knowing that there are still actors who work for the purpose of passion.

Yes, it is. And it was a compliment since any positive judgments are mainly considered compliments while any negative is considered, well, just "judgment." Just search for any interview of a young actress - notable, be it Emma Watson, to Shaileene Woodley, Saoirse Ronan, Dakota Fanning, Kristen Stewart - and read the comments.

I don't normally comment on YT but what the hey. First, thank you for posting this interview. Second, I have a little suggestion to the interviewer. Even though she obviously was tired it felt to me that Mr. Poland lost the interview from the beginning. She even gave him a clue by saying she was tired of stupid questions. Right there he should have thrown the scripted questions away and ask her about her shoe size or if she likes fishing or something else off the wall. The interview seemed really forced and his nervous laughter made it even worse. I'm not a professional reporter or a TV host but when in trouble why not take a page from some of the best. Craig Ferguson comes to mind off the top of my head. Just saying it would have made the interview more pleasant to watch.

TheSuperjunebug I know what you mean, I saw this as well. I felt like he didn't question Adele the same way he approached Christian Bale or something. Not trying to bash Mr. Poland, but Adele is way beyond her 19 years and has a very apparent rawness and honesty that is not a matter of age, but personality. Poland approaches her in a patronizing way at points because she is young, attractive and female, at least that's what I thought. I think she picks up on this pretty fast.
@Kinlever
@Kinlever 6 жыл бұрын
This guy, Mr. Poland, completely deserves bashing for this interview, because he behaved in very patronizing and disrespectful way, treating her like she is a child, without any reason. For me this guy is a total zero, completely inferior to her in every respect here. I would fire him immediately if I was his boss, or simply move him to a junior position, to go and learn a little bit how to do a proper interviewing job.

Who can really imagine the groundhog day hell of spending perhaps years fielding the same inane questions and most especially regarding sexuality in this film when it was so irrelevant to the understated beauty of the story and the portrayals therein. Loved Dave's first interview with Adele and Lea and Adele's natural, unguarded humour and honesty was adorable. You can see she's being a trooper here seeing the job out but by God i would nearly rather hear the interviewer talk about anything BUT the film with Adele for her sake.

What a lot of Americans don't get about the French is that while they often complain about Americans they love American films. It has been that way for a long time. The French new wave directors like Godard and Truffaut were obsessed with American film. Blockbuster directors that have an individual style like Tim Burton are far more appreciated by critics over there than in the U.S.
@lamentate07
@lamentate07 11 жыл бұрын

"It's inside, the interior of the character" Adele says near the very end. The interviewer should have focused more on that facet of the subject, something in-depth. Also, I think it's obvious by her demeanor that she is tired of silly, playful questions. Twice, the interviewer asks her about which questions she's been asked. At 25 minutes, the interviewer seemed to run out of questions. I realize this was not an easy interview given how evidently tired she is of this process, but she appears to be someone who does not want to tolerate BS, and is looking for substance.
@dp30

Brendan Taylor Adele is great. But I'm not sure she wanted anything of anything that day. I think she was done with talking about the film, being alone talking about the film, being on the circuit, and especially trying to translate her feelings to English. She did a great job with all of the above, but she was exhausted. And yes, I was certainly anticipating a different interview subject that day. The previous chat was all laughs. I wasn't out of questions at 25 minutes (I don't write questions), but I was really to stop torturing her. And I don't think I could have taken it to the next level without speaking in French and finding something other than the film to discuss.

I am so shocked that most of these journalists who spoke English had absolutely nothing interesting to ask her, in most interviews. This film and everybody involved in it is so bigger than anything that North American press can understand and can deal with. This idiotic guy who interviews her here keeps giggling all the time in such an irritating way, that its painful to listen. He simply has nothing intelligent or meaningful to ask.

I may just be an idiot... but this is the second Adele interview of that season and it is a marked contrast from the first. My laughter is probably uncomfortable, adjusting to her unhappiness on the day, when I was used to a pretty happy actor. On the other hand... why so angry?

She seems so sullen. Like someone's dog just died or something. :( Must have been a really special film. Like there's some undercurrent of emotion that conflicts with the film's success. ... ... first love? ... ... crap. I get the feeling a lot of hearts just broke and imploded. I hate that feeling. It's not easy bearing your heart and soul. But, all film technique aside, that's really what it's all about. That's what draws people to the movies. It's the heart of films that matter. People come to movies to feel what they want or even need to feel by empathizing with others, especially for such formative times in many young peoples' lives like this, and that in and of itself is quite an accomplishment. But, it is only one phase of many phases of life. There are a *lot* of phases in the grand tapestry of life yet to experience, some good, some bad. This experience was one of the better ones, and it was successful because people empathized with it, so clearly there were people who empathized with the story and the characters. I'm sure lightning will strike again... just not always in the ways you expect. It's not just about the industry. It's about artists communicating something important and from the heart with a lot of people. Were do you go? Find new truths from familiar but different experiences, figure out how your reality has changed, and bring what you learned with you to the next venture out. Hopeuflly, that will guide you on where you want to go. Fan, artist, and people empathy meets! :D

This guy, "David Poland", asked her about her favorite directors, actors, and other people from American scene, and then when she answered, he was giggling, like she said something silly. This was the second interview with Adele that season. I was expecting the Adele I had met before then. She came in, pretty much done with the process of chasing Oscar. I expected the whole thing to be light and easy. it wasn't. I certainly wasn't taunting her. If I was pulling her teeth a bit, it was because I was chasing what had been there before.
