Julien is a freaking genius. Hasil Adkins, Dancing Outlaw, and The Wild Wonderful Whites of West Virginia. I cant wait to see who he discovers next. Hopefully he will put out another documentary about the Whites.
@thomasdupont71862 жыл бұрын
Dude, These people were "discovered" way before (way way before) Julien worked with them. The Lomax did a piece on the White family during the 70's ?, and regarding Hasil I won't even start, he was an underground legend already in the 60's. Got nothing against Julien or guys like that (my name is Julien lol I'm French) but I was listening to HASIL Hadkins in France during the 90's you get it ? These guys just put on mainstream media things and cool stuff that were known since quiet some times (decades even sometimes). In a way, it piss me off a little because int used to be cuter culture, it was secret stuff that cool cultured people only knew about. But these people deserve top be known even is let's be honest most will see the Whites as "degenerates", THIS is not for the general public, so I don't know if Knoxville or the others intentions are that clear sometimes you see what I mean ? Mama White said they were ripped off by them for example.

It seems like almost no one here knows what the fuck they're even talking about when it comes to paying the subjects of a documentary. What they did isn't just normal, it's how documentaries are supposed to work. Unless it's an expert that's providing information, or a celebrity that's appearing for an interview who are compensated for their time (and even this should be avoided if possible), youre not supposed to pay subjects of a documentary. They're not actors and it's understood that they're participating because they want to, not because they have something to gain. If you pay the subjects of a documentary the viewer can no longer distinguish if what is happening is real or fake. Now they're compensated actors working for a director instead of just real people telling their story or living their life. You no longer know if they're acting or what they're saying is spontaneous and true or if they're just being paid to do things by the filmmakers to make their movie more interesting. The whites participated in the documentary willingly, they weren't forced to or being paid to appear and if that's not what they wanted then they could have said no. No one forced them to be filmed and they knew what they were signing up for. Now that the movie is actually popular they're changing their tune and looking for a payday and it's no secret what they want the money for.
@itsme23656 жыл бұрын
Darkaero But they were told that they WOULD get paid. All the Whites asked daily who what and how they would get paid. These 3 assholes hosed them and walked away laughing.
@georgehasleftthebuilding66212 жыл бұрын
@@itsme2365 I do agree that this is how documentaries work for the guaranteed authentic value. I do believe that they were compensated throughout, just probably not in the realm of millions that they daydreamed and prematurely bragged about. If any of the main players wanted money instead of a booze or drugs "paycheck", I'm sure that they could have gotten the cash in lieu of the booze or drugs, that was a choice on them. See, if the whites didn't get some compensation throughout, why didn't they put a stop to the filming the next time those guys came back? why did they keep filming month after month, weeks at a time? And don't claim ignorance because the whites are a lot smarter than you think when it comes to hustling, making money, imo they got bit by the fame and greed bug AFTERWARDS .....now how they spend money, not so much thought there lol. ✌

Leave the money issues to those involved. The documentary was entertaining and as much as people want to hate the Whites this is an actual American family. America is a melting pot and it takes all types. We are all part of this big world and everyone has a part. Bringing it to the public is good. We need to see all sides of life good and bad. Don't think money changes the risk of addiction. I am sure there are 1% families similar to this in different ways. Maybe they don't air the laundry in public but I am sure behind closed doors there is just as much dysfunction and probably more damage in all honestly.
@jaimiefuller20329 жыл бұрын
+Stephen Black first intelligent point made in a long time on YT thank you so much mister black, also very funny that your surname is black while commenting on the white family XD sorry grandfather humor... i agree completely though, to the extent that i would say addiction and other issues of morality and abuse are far more profound/prevalent in families that have got a bit of wealth, it's simply the fact that they can pay to hide it that makes them any different. It's the main reason i despise those that most would idolize, if you actually knew these people you would wake up every-day wishing ill upon them too.

There are families just like the White's all over Appalachia though.. It's definitely not just a stereotype.. You get up in them mountains and thats mostly what you are going to find.. It's the inbreeding in the bloodlines.. Then the inbreeds started breeding with other inbreeds, and the genetic pool becomes compromised and discombobulated.. Don't get me wrong, there are people like the White's all over the country but there's a higher concentration of them in the Appalachia region..

I grew up w/a family like this in OK. The dad was a county commissioner at one point, but mostly the whole family cornered the market on hard drugs in our small town. When their meth lab, which was less than a block from the ONE AND ONLY STOPLIGHT in town, caught on fire, they called the fire department, and it was put out, no one arrested. One of my cousins married one of the sons, bad boy, etc. So he would show up at family gatherings sometime, scared the hell outta me! He was the kind of heroin addict that was running out of veins, skeletal body, always wore dark sunglasses and old gangster style suits and hats. He was walking death. She finally got away from him, thankfully. Hadn't thought of them in a long time, lol, gotta love life in a small town. There was no movie theater, so we just watched the real life drama.
