You and a few others are creating an encyclopedia of guitar repertoire on you tube that inspire players to tackle new pieces. It is especially helpful that you post entire groups of works of a composer so we can start to understand that composers style. Thank you for your hard work.

Thanks. In a few days I'll post the complete studies in one video. Then... another composer!

My teacher was a student of John Holmquist. After his death, some of the fellow students were talking, including Jason Vieaux, who remarked that Holmquist was among the first who could pull off this etude. It was unheard of! The standard of playing has really accelerated since this was first published, but still, it's extremely daunting! I've been working on no. 3 for two years, and even that one is a nightmare for the left hand.

That's interesting..thanks for your comment. They certainly are difficult, especially no.10.

Firstly, thanks for being such an inspiration. I just finished my first play through of this piece but nowhere near your virtuosic rendition. I truly understand the amount of time and dedication you've put into this piece. Hands down best performance of this Etude.

This performance is of such a level as to make the others - although commendable - present on youtube seem like purely amateur attempts. For the entire duration of the piece, the cleanliness of the sound and the evenness of the rhythm are absolutely remarkable, expecially during the big jumps across the neck and in the more complicated passages in the upper part of the neck. A great video to easily understand the difference between a good guitarist and an exceptional guitarist, even for an untrained ear. This is the sound that distinguishes a true virtuoso!

I believe Regondi actually ended up living in London and died there. He also made some performances in Ireland. Such a shame that he left a relatively small number of compositions for the guitar, as he is by far my favourite composer for the instrument

He played the concertina as well! Think I'll stick to the guitar repertoire..

I would be interested to know which studies a student should tackle, and in what order? For me Sor and Carcassi, but after that…???
@davidjaggs2 жыл бұрын
Hi Robert. I don't think there is a set order, see what you feel your technique is lacking, and look for studies that you like (that's important) and use them to improve. There are so many, Giuliani, Aguado, Sor, Carcassi, Tarrega, Brouwer, Villa Lobos, Coste to name but a few. One thing is for sure, these Regondi studies are among the hardest! I hope that answers your question.

Nicely done. I haven't played this etude as I'm not a fan of Regondi. His music is too simple and repetitive for me, let alone his etudes. Same applies to Sor. However, judging from what I've heard and seen, I'd say there are a number of Lobos etudes that seem harder than this one. Yet again, I think there is no the hardest, best, etc. These things can be very subjective. I'm sure you agree, however you cleverly used it as a hook or click bait 😉. Anyhow, great technique! 👍
