DR-675 String Trimmer Won't Start - Recap at the end of the video - Let's Figure This Out

A tenant left behind a number of these string trimmers. All of which are in very bad shape. This unit wouldn't start, but at least all the pieces are there.

These instructions helped me get my trimmer back to life. The small hole indicated at time 6:50 was my exact problem. I used a 28 guage needle (lancet) and carb cleaner to get the hole opened up. Fired up on the first pull with starter fluid after getting in back together. Thank you for your extremely helpful video. When I reinstalled my fuel line I added a cutoff valve because I anticipate I'll need to do this repair again in the future and draining all the gas from the tank was a pain in the ass.

I don't know how far you can trust a guy who wears socks with sandals, but the detailed carb breakdown was helpful. It turned out to be the issue with mine, even though the carburetor was a bit different

I've gotten a bit lazy in my old age and because of where I live I have to take my shoes off before I go in the house. So sandals get worn a lot. I'm also hypothyroid so I'm always cold... So socks. And I guess after 60, I lost my fashion sense.

Update: I wound up replacing the spark plug. Since the oil was not changed on a regular basis, it's an oil burner, I'll have to stay on top of the spark plug as it will foul.

Might try Lukas engine stuff and see if it helps It’s what I use on old mower that are just worn out and not worth rebuilding

Using starter fluid before tear down would help with diagnosis. You need 3 things. Air, Fuel, and Spark

I referenced you video for cleaning the carb on my trimmer (DR Premiere). Trash in jets was the problem. Cleaned, reassembled and installed, it now runs fine. Problem is it won't shut off. I didn't notice any ignition ground in the throttle linkage. Where to look? Thanks.

When you pull the throttle all the way back, it grounds out the ignition. Look under the fuel tank and see if it is bent or the wire came out. Also, the throttle control may be binding and not going all the way to the off position.

Hey big man, thank you sir I've got a husqvarna was used at a feedyard and it wouldn't run anymore so they asked if I would want it or they were gonna junk it , brought it home change out the spark plug drained the gas and oil, fired right up now after a few yrs she dont wanna run anymore but throughout those few yrs I did service it but never was a oil burner but I've never taken the carburetor off and checked it I just didn't /don't wanna get rid of it she can go through weeds like butter but any other info would be highly appreciated sir. start by adjusting the valves, then replace the carb.

I have a hd one that’s red and b/s engine with a plex glass shield behind engine Dark red color, any idea what brand it is, the string head is bad

The only dark red one I'm aware of it "The Earthquake". I think Tractor Supply and Amazon sold those

It looked like the plug gag was shorted with oil or a piece of carbon. That would explain a no-start problem.

Yup. I was using the unit the other day and the engine siezed. I'm thinking about doing an autopsy to identify the failure point.

The carb just has an o ring so once you pull the air filter housing, it pops off

Carb needs cleaning is all You can do it with a couple of cans of carb cleaner or brake cleaner

@@philliphall5198 The thing's brand new it took two tanks a gas. The self priming system is garbage. I got it going after priming it myself several times And letting the tank get some sun on it. Compared to the original d r these are pieces of shit

The Hubs Is having the same problem….it is sitting in the sun now hopefully it will start soon and stay running! Glad you had posted what you did for yours, because that is exactly what we have done! ✅
