I'm going to start saying that, as well, about my "garden". I always refer to it as my yard. No one would refer to your property as a yard, Ram. 👍 It's a beautiful garden, all the way!

"Sounds like i know what im doing, I have no idea what I'm doing. " 🤣🤣 I love this guy! My kind of gardener! Just man-handles plants, makes them do what he wants. He's great! "The two of us just sort of faked it for a while." "I couldn't design my way out of a paper bag" "Don't believe the books except....mine" "Sometimes evergreen means...everbrown" He is GOLD! Gonna have to buy his books and please have more videos with him!

What a great tour of a wonderful garden! He kept saying, "I don't want to bore you..." not to worry. Personally, I would enjoy even a more detailed tour of the plants but this was great fun. I love plants too. Up close and far away, such joy they are. That very pale carex near the end of the video: what a gorgeous plant that is! It's huge! And that Chardonnay Pearls Deutzia, oh my! It will grow in my zone 5, and you've inspired me to get one!! I love all the common sense he's giving. When do you prune a flowering plant? After it flowers! Regarding the usual advice to leave bulb leaves until they're yellow: I don't think it is necessary for the leaves to go that far... what I mean is that the plant has produced and stored enough food to grow and make flowers next year long before the leaves turn yellow. So that's why it is OK to chop them before they get to the yellow stage. But as Dr. Armitage says, do give them a bit of time after the flowers are finished before cutting back the leaves. That's from my own experience, which fits with what Dr. Armitage says, that he can cut the leaves back by 1/2 and the bulbs do produce flowers next year.

Refreshing approach to garden design/plant placement. Gardeners tend to fret too much at times. Rather just plant what you like around a few basic garden principles as he describes and then enjoy. If you decide you don't like something later then just try something different. That's truly part of the joy of gardening!

I always see Toad Lilly is listed as only hardy till Zone 8 but I've successfully grown it in Zone 9 (Houston). One of them is planted underneath a few very large deciduous trees so it gets dappled shade in the summer and part shade-sun in the winter-first half of spring. The other one is planted in a foundation bed by the north facing side of the house, it receives an hour or so of afternoon sun but the sun is somewhat dappled to a large tree on the westside of my house. Both of them flower beautifully and have shown growth/expanded after multiple years.
