Amari's owner should make a visit to those first vets that told her to put her down ...... and educate them on how to correct a congenital deformity in a limb (twisted leg syndrome). Shame shame on them for not even trying. High praises to Dr. Chris for at least trying, if nothing else.

Sometimes it is the cost.
@tinydancer74263 жыл бұрын
Whether the cost is worth trying is not a decision that should be made by the physician (vet in this case). Perhaps, the "cost" that those two vets did not want to invest was their time. Still, shame, shame on them. If they did not know how to correct the limb, if that was the case, they should have been up front and said so (I would have to watch the video again to determine whether the owner said anything in that regard), rather than saying "There is nothing that can be done." I would have more respect if a vet said, "I don't want to even try and then fail", might not like them much, but that would have been a more honest answer. Again, high praises to Dr. Chris, and much respect for caring enough to try.

One of my cats had a litter of kittens. When we checked on them, we saw that one of them had their umbilical cord wrapped around one of his hind legs. You can tell that the leg was dead cuz the blood flow had been cut off for too long. We took him to the vet and they suggested that we put him down. We declined cuz we wanted to see if he’d make it. The next day, we went to check on him and saw that his dead leg was gone. We looked around for it but couldn’t find it anywhere. We think that the mom cat basically chewed it off and ate it. That’s the only thing that we can think of that could explain what happened. That was about 6 years ago now and we still have that kitten. Only he isn’t a kitten anymore. Lol. He has no problem with getting around with 3 legs. He does look funny when he runs. Lol.

My 12 year old dog had a lump the size of a naval orange removed in Aug 2019. She was in surgery for 3 hours bc they wanted to get it all. They still have it bc I didn't have the extra money to get it tested. They didn't see any spread on her pre surgery x-rays and the area hasn't grown any more since it was removed. But she still has several lumps, including one on her belly almost as big as the one on her thigh. She's 13 now but still healthy & happy. No limping. She got through surgery like a champ, and actually had to have surgery again a week later to fix the sutures and clean up some pressure necrosis from the buttons. The skin was so tight bc they had to remove so much, the stitches ripped through the skin. It didn't help that that was the side she always wanted to lay on. She's doing great now, other than about 4 troubling lumps. She still has a bald patch though. Lol

Exactly what I thought too.
@prcervi3 жыл бұрын
because a true physical deformity could be a sign of other major internal deformities that would doom the kitten to a brief life, also tripod cats are a bit less forgiving about losing a back leg(worse arthritis sooner, worse jumping ability, ect) it wasn't though, kitten just got bit squished in utero and had a simple(tedious) fix

It's not unusual for pedigreed puppies and kittens to be euthanised if they have any deformity, even a minor one. I met a Rottweiler that was going to be put down because he had a small patch of hair growing backwards (like a ridgeback). Fortunately someone wanted him and he had a good life.

Tim, what a cheeky guy! Love your romantic wombat love fest photo shoot. Yes, anyone that watches, knows you enthusiastically love all the animals in your care but I'm guessing you lost a bet or the videographer had some dirt on you and blackmailed you into a few of those poses. Well, you kept a straight face and it's only a little embarrassing until your wife sees it and either laughs with you or gets jealous. Thanks for signing up for the show and all that you do to showcase the various animals, all while properly educating us on their care and habits, in your darling slightly over the top way. Best to your future!

those kittens won the genetic lottery. blue eyes and pure white? and not one deaf kitten? lucky
@shadycatz853 жыл бұрын
they're not pure white, you can see their point developing (seal point by the look). they're siamese. all point siamese are born white and then develop their points over the next weeks and months. they do not have the same genetic profile as actual white, blued eyed cats that causes deafness.

I’m 41 years young. Is it too late for me to go back to school? I want badly to become a veterinarian. I would love to also travel down to visit folks who keep chickens. There are not many clinics that will provide care for them. Even if they treat avian and exotic animals. I would like to bridge that gap. I would also check with all household pets, that aren’t able to get out the clinic.

It's never too late! People could really use a vet like that! Go for it!

Ive owned a blind bird before and we left it flighted because it had worked out how to navigate its aviary home even with very limited sight (we think it could see blurry shadows/light and thats it) it acted very similar to this bird but it knew day from night. Though i would recommend clipping for blind birds as watching this bird fly around was always scary. Itd fly super slow and bang into stuff till it felt the branch it wanted. It worked but yeah i dont recommended flight blind birds. Far safer to teach them to walk. Note: it took us a while to work out that our bird was blind. And im the meantime it learned to deal with it so we just left it. It was born that way.

That Rottie is beautiful. So happy to see no clipping! You need a sling lift! Wait? What? The vet went to a patient's home?

I love how they keep stating these kittens are only 3 days old. They are too big for only 3 days old and there eyes are starting to open. If I saw a kitten with eyes opening at 3 days old I would be very worried. These kittens are about 2 weeks old. There eyes are starting to open and they are starting to explore more.

I adopted a little white kitten just like these. 4 weeks old with a goopy eye, I put him with my blind deaf puppy Mill rescue and it led to an interesting bond. At 15 months he walked off and never came back. Broke my heart. I’m in an extremely rural area. Farmland surrounds me and a wooded area with a creek at the bottom. He had left many times but always returned for food. I’m thinking coyote. Very sad

we rescued a dog with a huge lump a few weeks ago and immediately took him for surgery. Thankfully it was nothing life-threatening but afterwards, the lump is completely gone and we have one very happy doggy! So good job Dr Shen!
