@Rusty Howe Aww, that's so nice of you guys. Personally I probably wouldn't ever own a shelter pup, because I have numerous large breeds that I am enthusiastic about, my current and future dogs are and will be from breeders.

@Rusty Howe Understandable, as long as you guys get a dog that works with what your wants and needs! In my case looks and temperament are everything. I do IPO, and shelter dogs (my opinion) are not fit IPO and protection dogs, eccspecially if they are neutered.

Mix breed dogs are also less likely to have genetic issues like pure breed dogs. Nature selects for survival, eye and hip issues are unselected if there are options.

I rescued a Labrador / Pit-bull mix that weighs about 90 pounds (40.8 K). This dog had been abused and was in dire need of veterinarian care. So, he went straight to our vet and was placed on an IV for dehydration and antibiotics for a open wound on his back from what looked like a dog bight. The wound needed to be closed as well. A day later he was ready to come home with me. Before taking him home, he got a bath from the groomers at the vets office. He’s about 9 months old so he lost his manhood, shots and teeth cleaned. The bill came out to be around $1000 U.S. which isn’t cheap. Once back at our house, there was the meet and greet with the other animals (4 cats, 3 dogs). The other animals quickly set ground rules to the new comer. He acted friendly waning to kiss the other animals over and over. He ate and I showed him to his new bed. He got a warm blanket, curled up into a ball and slept for a day before asking for food, water and the grassy yard. Adopting is the right move for most with no notable regrets. His bread is unique for having a white around his neck, narrow long body with a tight shiny black coat. His black head holds a thick jaw with nice and white sharp teeth. His bark cracks loud enough to sting your eardrums. He’s still figuring out when to and when not to use his lowed voice. His long tail has a bit of white on the tail as if it was accidentally dipped in white paint. He’s just a lovely animal that was literally hours away from the gas chamber. He’s found a forever home and we just adore him.

I've always adopted and One of which I rescued from certain death. She's a black and white Pittie and the most loving dog I've owned. We rescued her when she was 6mos old(now 7yrs) and the breeder never let her out of a cage so her pads were bloody after her first play outside something she never did. The vet said keep them clean and gradual play until they toughened up. Once they did she loves being outside. It's so rewarding when you rescue and no matter the situation they are able to be trained to be loving loyal companions.🙂

My dog passed away recently but this video is bringing back sooo many fond memories of when I brought my fur baby home. (It wasn't far mom lived like 6 houses down lol) and I was able to bond with him from day one. He was so good. The nighttime training think maybe 3 nights of some crying then he was fine.

oh me too!! my Bichon Branden was put down this July due to throat cancer that spread very quickly he was 16. i slept on our living room sofa the first week he was home to confort him and assure him i was there usually 99 percent of the time hed end up sleeping on the coach with me... once he got bigger he slept on my bed. teething was a nightmare haha he chewed everything i tried hot sauce and the bitter spray and he still chewed... he was my best friend so loyal, loving and a goofball... his personality was literally perfect loved everybody most animals and was not fussy about food whatsoever as long as he had it on time he was fine... i miss him dearly but i know he is at peace. makes me excited for spring when i get a new puppy to love and care for again and going thru the puppy years again too 0-5 years basically or more depending on their energy

I don't know if you will see this, we have had 17 dogs over 50 years and one thing that always worked with the new babies was putting an alarm clock with them in the bed. They hear the tick-tick and does not feel quite so alone. Thank you for your videos. i do enjoy them.

As a person who grew up with German Shepherds and other large breed dogs I know how aggravating it can be when your puppy goes into the chewing mode. That's when you have to find ways to deflect his energy. But coming home to a completely chewed up couch is hilarious. So I bought another couch for him to chew on. He looked at me and went into the corner. No more chewing problems.

I have always used a rope dog toy soaked in beef/chicken broth and then placed in the freezer until frozen solid. I keep at least 3 at all times. When puppy starts to chew on something inappropriate, I get one out to distract (redirect) him. The cold numbs their gums so the teething doesn't hurt, and they prefer the flavor of the beed or chicken broth to any shoe, piece of furniture, etc. You have to supervise to make sure they don't try to eat it, but I've never had a problem with that-

Crate training is the way to go as long as it is never used as punishment. I've had many Shelties through the years and each started in a crate the day they came home. As adults, they would go into the crate to rest during the day, on their own, with the door remaining open. When I would say "bedtime," they would run for the crate and lay down before I got there. It's their den, a safe spot when the world gets too hectic for them (ex - fireworks).

It is a good ePuppy School. One of the biggest lessons I learned is that people shouldn't get animals (especially puppies) if they aren't willing to put in the work. The German Shepherd mum and the grey Staffordshire Terrier mum were just not doing the right things or putting in any of the real work, but they wanted the results. Not sure I get why it took so long for them to see the connection between their behaviors and their dogs' behaviors, especially since I know Dr. Chris and the puppy school instructors were reinforcing that connection.

Growing up on a ranch our dog just showed up one day fully grown. She was the best friend, cattle dog and protector. She could even kill a skunk without getting a smell on her. Fast forward a few years I am a single Mom raising a daughter with Spina Bifida. My best friend had a Yorkie female with puppies. She gave a boy to my daughter when she was young. What a special relationship they had. She was devoted to him and found less time to think about her own challenges. He brought her so much comfort and love for 19 years. When I got my Redbone Coonhound at 16 weeks she’d had a rough start in life. Her and her brother were abandoned in a dog park at 8 weeks. First night I put her in a crate and left the room, she SCREAMED. So I laid on the couch with her crate next to the couch, she screamed and chewed at my fingers. So I let her out of the crate, so she climbed up on me and went to sleep. She slept the whole night like that.

Perfect timing, I'm getting a puppy in Spring! A GSD actually. We're so excited to get a new pup in the house. Our small older dog (10 years old, only 12lbs and still a ball of energy) is going to be elated, he loves big dogs, its all about the chase. He misses my sisters Swissy. Im actually pre-paying for vet bills and training classes before I even get the dog. Gathering toys and everything I need to make sure my pup grows to be a model citizen and possibly therapy/S&R dog. :) We (my kid and I) are prepared.

Yes it's a bigger mouth but those teeth are 100000 times more of a razor than a small dog. Play and teething biting from a gsd will often end in blood drawn unintentionally, so just take care!

It is Soo heartbreaking to leave these puppies alone crying All night long even more just after separating them from their mum siblings and in such a new Environnement. I wonder if dogs don t acquire sad eyes because if the miseries we unknowingly inflict to them. Asian, Indian, African,.. breeds even the stray dogs have a very different eyes. Now specialists say it is important for human babies to be reassured When they cry otherwhise they become insecure. Chances are it is the Same for puppies. Dogs can learn at any age so it is always possible to transition later on. I personnally had a lot of dogs and sometimes it is them who decide to sleep somewhere different. The only risk is to crash them if they sleep in your bed.

i now have my second dog (Labrador) his now 9 years old and his name is Inish,here in Switzerland i took him when he was 8 weeks old,but i never left him alone sleeping,i actually set up the alarm clock every 2 hours during night to bring him quick outside in the garden to train him for bathroom,i did this for about 3 weeks then he learned that outside is the bathroom,i could have never leave a baby dog alone sleeping🌸🌻

Good tips on the biting and the balloons in the garden! I highly recommend crate training for puppies at night and a portable pen to rest in during the day in view of activity with a bed and a few toys. At that age they are like babies & toddlers, they need frequent rest, chewing on appropriate things and safe from things that could get them into trouble.

You missed the OTR Truck Driver with a Puppy in a Big Rig. My little darling Jazz is a Basschshund I got at 10 weeks old from Gods Dog Rescue out of San Antonio Texas. She has chewed up several electric cords including my seat belt wires and the rubber covering on the bottom of my seat. She loves shredding paper and cardboard. Our big play space is the single bed in my truck. She’s now 6 months and It’s been a lot of fun and I wouldn’t give her up for the world.

Growing up in the deep south of the US in Georgia my people had an archaic practice to house train puppies. I am not condoning it just explaining how they did it ...here is the process Once the puppy is 6 months old after they eat they took a plain match from a regular paper matchbook (not the wood matches) and they put the match end into petroleum jelly aka vaseline...then the plain unlit match dip in vaseline was placed in the puppies bottom like a suppository with only the match tip with the paper end sticking out so it will be sure come out do this exactly 3 minutes before going outside just after the dog eats and they will go to the bathroom immediately...FYI plain matches were used as a home remedy for constipation...apparently, the natural sulfur used to make matches works like a sort of laxative for humans as well...as soon as the puppy gets outside he goes to the bathroom and then he is praised and given treats after a week you will no longer need to use the matches the dog will go automatically usually and repeat this every day at least 3 times a day and the dog will start going to door after meals. If the dog has accidents and you catch him in the act you have to take him out instantly...Never hit the dog. I am not even sure the match works like the people who use this practice think it works...The match merely stimulates the puppy to go who has a small system so he will need to go after eating anyway...without the matches...I just wanted to share this strange practice/ ritual and I would love to hear from anyone who has heard of this or tell of any practices we may not have heard of...and if there are any Vets out there who would comment on how they think this works

Worming tablets were the reason my German Shepard got addicted to butter and cheese. It was the easiest way to get him to have the tablets (though this was when he was older than a puppy and had to be convinced to have it at home. His first was with the vets who did their magic!)

GSDs are my absolute weakness. They are smart, dominant, protective and need lots of guidance, discipline and exercise. They are the perfect family pet. BUT you need to know how to handle a GSD. Training and socialization are the keys to having a good dog. (now I want another GSD, lol)

Couldn't agree more, the lady in this video seems like she went into it thinking it was gonna be simple owning one. I've only owned gsds, currently have a 5 month old long hair gsd, and it is anything but simple raising him, they are a tough cookies.

@@claw.5464 gaaaa! My ovaries! Lol. I have a rescued GSD/pitty mix right now and he has the coat of a GSD but not the brains. He is super sweet but about as bright as a bag of hammers. GSDs are beyond amazing. I am hoping to own a pack of them when I retire. Right now, my work life wouldn't be fair to having a pack of GSDs. Give your long haired GSD a squeeze from me. ;-)

We are not new puppy owners, we've had about 3 dogs since growing up. Our 1st was for about 10-12yrs the 2nd was less than a year (because he was a bit aggressive towards the neighbors dog and that led to him being put down) and no.3 we've a had for about 5yrs already. Which I didn't think we have had our latest one for that long. My dad had a dog growing up as well, so we aren't newcomers when it coms to dogs. p.s. the worst thing I can say about our dog right now is her farts. its like a stinky gas bomb going off. usually comes after she's just eaten or starts to bark. But we still love her. We don't obsess over so much as to buy her fancy collars and clothes, she only gets one meal a day, plus what ever food scraps we don't want and walks out to the park when ever we can, rides in the car and lots of pats and cuddles. That's it.

I used the disasposable blue underpass for beds. The are cheaper than puppy training pads.

also another tip, when you take your puppy outside at night NEVER let them out alone! You don't know what could happen.

100% this! Even if you think you're safe in your own yard, you never know when something could happen. Even something as usually mundane and harmless as a raccoon could mess up a little baby like that. Not to mention the risk of predatory birds in rural areas! I used to live up in an area that was known to have collar-ridden eagle nests from how many small pet dogs were snatched up by them.

@@invalidvulture1408 especially if the puppy is a dark color, like black. As a puppy black furred puppies basically blend in with the night, me and my family had a black lab husky mix when he was a puppy his fur was black as night until he got older.

I'd never do that to an 8-week-old. The puppy has to get used to a strange new place without the rest of kir litter first. Get a crate, have an indoor campout with your puppy - the crate will become puppy's 'cave', and you can move to sleeping on your bed with the puppy nearby, and eventually leave the crate open and a housebroken pup on your bed with you.

@@corgiw7281 of course I agree. I’m just saying I’m a softee. If I actually rescued a puppy, I would do everything possible to raise him or her the right way. Please try to understand and read the comments and not be so judgemental. Thanks. ☺️

Most of the advice is good, but you can't just leave your puppy alone, especially not the first night. That dog hasn't been alone a single minute of its life, there's always been at least the siblings around. It's much less traumatizing if you sleep next to them, that way you'll know when they have to go outside and you can comfort them if necessary.

My thought also - why in the world are they all abandoning their puppies in the first 12 hours of being in their new homes?! They're babies, treat them like that!

@@corgiw7281 Yeah I really don't get it. Also all the sound aversion and avoidance training doesn't exactly teach the puppy a better behaviour and could lead to other problems with a bit of bad luck. It's certainly not the worst puppy video and as competent as the Bondi team is when it comes to veterinarian stuff, people like Kikopup here on KZbin do a much better job at explaining puppy behaviour and how to curb it.

alllll the pups I have owned in all my yrs on this earth laying with them on the first night calms them right down... you get sleep they get sleep and everyone who is caught up on sleep is very happy.... you will find night after night they go sleep easier.... after a week all is good

m shocked to find how many people slept separated from there puppy dog some people go their whole life like that and one thing that is unbelievably ridiculous is not letting there dog on furniture in house forcing them to the floor their entire life I can't even imagine the amount of damage to a pup mentality having living that

Puppies are lot of work and training, I have been third time to adopt puppies. 1st is not a puppy, I adopt 2 years old dog (black lab/spainel mix) very easy and simple till he's 16 years, passed away from cancer.😢 2nd, I adopt 3 months puppy (black lab/chowchow) lot of work & training. Till 10 years old, he's pass away due seizure that kill him, unexpected. I was very grieves for two weeks. Last one i adopt 2 month black Germany Shepard, whoa very tough, stress, I decided to take him to training for three month but still stubborn but very local and very smart dog, he's still alive, he's 8 years old now. He still mischief 😜, I still love him. He's my last dog .. (it's my 3rd dog) Maybe for the final adopt hearing dog for the deaf, undecide yet! My 3rd adopt is still alive, can't adopt immediately because he is not friendly with other dogs, he will fight and kill them, I won't let him hurt other dog. He's very friendly with people, no problem but he can smell bad person, he will bite! (Not dogs) he get along with my two cats, since he was 3 years old they along fine.. I learned lot about German Shepherd culture, not that easy, pfftt. Must training!!

Yes german shepherds are not easy dogs. My pup absolutely hates other dogs, kids and people (besides my family), if we are approached while out, he will bark and if they were to come closer, he would bite. He had been socialized when he was a few weeks old (he's not adopted, breeder bought), but I guess all dogs have their preferences. Yes they do require a lot of training, and to stay happy they need to have a job.
