My friends,
Today we’ve got the godfather of lifestyle medicine, Dr. Dean Ornish, on the PLANTSTRONG Podcast.
For over 40 years, Dr. Ornish and his team of researchers have demonstrated time and again how lifestyle medicine can reverse, treat, and prevent chronic disease.
How is this possible?
Four simple steps: Eat Well, Love More, Stress Less, and Move More - all of which are outlined in Dr. Ornish’s latest book, “UnDo It - How Simple Lifestyle Changes Can Reverse Most Chronic Diseases,” which was released in paperback this week.
What you gain is so much more than what you will give up. And, the best part? You don’t have to do it alone.
We’re here to help.

I have worked in the medical field for 40 years. I have seen so many diabetics and hypertensive people "managed" by medications and their health gets worse and worse leading to inevitable outcome. Its rare if a doctor recommends plant based diets - even today. Many thanks to Rip Esselstyn, his father and Dr. Ornish for giving people are real self-help tool! I've been plant based for going on 6 years and vegan for over 10. I don't think I would be here if it wasn't for this diet. Thank you for this interview!

Would you not agree that Dr. Ornish should be awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine and Physiology? It seems more than deserved at this point! It is truly fantastic that Medicare now covers the Ornish heart care program. Bravo to Dr. Ornish! And to Rip for having him as a breakthrough guest. Rice University must be really proud to have Dr. Ornish as an incredible alum! My grandfather was a member of Rice’s first class and would be really happy to learn about Dr. Ornish!

When I was a new employee at Highmark BCBS in 1998 Dean Ornish came to talk to employees .... I will never forget a fellow employee stood up and thanked Dr.Ornish for saving her Father life. His heart was so diseased that his angina was so bad he couldn't walk 10 feet. After going through the program he was able to walk normally. His heart disease was CURED! God bless Dean Ornish!

Here’s my testimony: I am a Survivor: Covid hit me July, 2021. Just 2 1/2 months prior, I had switched to a Vegan diet, lost 17 pounds, more energy, better sleep, ya-dah-ya-dah. Wednesday July 14th I attended a neighbor’s funeral (not Covid), I came home so fatigued I slept the rest of the day, didn’t feel like eating. I repeated this for 3 more days, woke up on the 4th evening a little hungry, ate a bowl of oatmeal, and bounced right back. Not bad for a diabetic, cancer survivor, quintuple bypass surgery, with HITT complications survivor.! Yes, I’m an advocate for “Plant Strong” Lifestyle! 🎉🎉🎉

Gratz on survival. I just heard on the Twiv virology podcast that diabetes is the big risk factor. You are a real survivor. It is a distinct pleasure to hear your story as it and those of many others keep me on the path. I joked with my brother and his family when I visited, pointing out the dishes I consider 'food poison'. I stopped after awhile but I wanted them to know the mindset I use, based on the Mcdougall diet, to stay strong, and avoid moderation of the unhealthy foods.

I am now "doing" the plant based lifestyle and loving it. I am determined to reverse my diabetes... thanks to you and your whole family I know I'm on the right path now. Survived a Widowmaker at 43 in Poland.... They saved my life. I recovered but still minor issues here and there. Exercise always and light weights does the trick. Didn't really change my diet.... 57 now and it's trying to catch up to me with angina and arythmias. 5 years of high cholesterol and LDL did it. I saw your dad's video and then both you and Dr. Ornish's. Bought your dad's and your book and went plant based on 13 Jan cold turkey. I am going to knock this out once and for all. I'm remarkably better already after 2 1/2 weeks. I want my life back and with your help I should get there. Finally something to really beat this! 20 plus years of eating poorly around the world with the military.... I have the dedication so I should be fine once through this hurdle.

THX !!! Dr Ornish, you are a true pioneering hero. Will be sharing this interview. We get prayer requests DAILY for people having heart issues, high BP, etc. At this point I almost am annoyed when these folks won't consider food to be the culprit. Last church breakfast featured ham, bacon & sausage, links & patties, biscuits & gravy !!! Also eggs, pancakes & frozen waffles. On my behalf they had a bowl of fruit lol. It's like putting water in your car and wondering why it won't run, or standing on the interstate and then wondering why you keep getting hit by cars.

Rip, can you please pass my thanks to your father for his book on making someone 'Heart Attack Proof'. In April last year I broke a shoulder, and had a heart attack on a Bank Holiday, so because of the time in the UK I couldn't get a cab, a lift and had to physically walk 9 miles to hospital during a cardiac event. Needless to say I made it, spent 4 days in hospital, but when I had my angiogram, the surgeon who examined my heart couldn't believe how I managed to get to hospital and more astonishingly he remarked in front of all the staff in the theatre that they should look at the monitor of the camera of my heart as they will see the inside of my heart and it maybe the only case they see in their entire medical career. In short I didn't do any damage to my heart, which the surgeon found amazing so I spent some time with him and explained how I managed the feat and the science involved by pumping more of the correct gases through the system to scrub the arteries clean. The source for the science was of course your fathers book, and I passed on the information to the cardiac team and I'm now a 'lab rat' to see how a cardiac department can get patients to do something to improve themselves as I clearly managed. I spent 4 days in hospital on a cardiac ward and was the only one not to be sent for surgery to have a stent fitted, though I was scheduled for the surgery until my angiogram! I was discharged from hospital later that day with the staff in complete disbelief! It's about a good as a testimonial for eating a lot of broccoli as one can get, and it's verifiable and 100% true. There's now a cardiac team in the UK and one surgeon in particular who was amazed what a patient achieved as a result from dietary changes!

One of the most important points, and this should be a pinned comment is: that Medicare now pays for it. Dr. Dean Ornish was able to get Medicare to pay for people to become well, by using his programs, throughout the united states. It’s also hard to look at all the pubic figures eating this whole food plant base lifestyle, yet they look older than their age. Thanks for interviewing the great Dean Ornish. As far as advertising is concerned, I do believe, like Dean Ornish, that much of the world view of many people is shaped by advertising. In going whole food-plant based, I realized how powerful the food commercials are. They me hungry on the spot. I cut back on programs and media that have advertising and one thing I did to avoid (at least at first) was to take driving routes which don't have my favorite fast food restaurant. I don't watch standard television any longer and I believe that's the biggest change. I also am careful with excessive advertising at times on radio and the internet. I think it helped me quite a bit and not just on food. I'll skip videos of specific topics, including excessive over-consumption, war, violence, vulgarity for example, because it's real easy to get inundated with it if not careful. What we see everyday, and not just advertising, shapes us. Bad friends can shape us and our activities. There are good people as friends who can help keep the right behavior patterns and worldview. As it concerns general mental health, I am very careful about following current events. I have been food tempted a little bit when visiting family, but driving by restaurants can't get me now, especially when I can readily get some fruit or have some. Edit: spelling

I been recommending Undo It to pretty much everyone i run into for years now :) Got a hard copy for my father as well. :D I think the biggest tidbit to make it all work for me was to get the 10-20% fat from whole foods while eating all plantbased. I counted the macronutrients and ate enough sunflower seeds or walnuts to account for the fats and suddenly i felt amazing on this lifestyle. Liquid iodine supplements help too :p Many people feel very bad on wholefood plant based diet simply because they do not get enough seeds in through the day. Add a few handful of seeds to whatever they were eating and suddenly weakness and mental fogginess goes away :)

I don’t doubt what you are experiencing, I’m on a whole food plant based diet and eat very little seeds, nuts and high fat food and I feel great but everyone is different. If they ever do a study saying your lifestyle works for someone like me than I’m in.

I would like to know what the meals are that are in the study. All these studies should have cookbooks with the individual serving sizes so we can follow too.

Dr. Ornish is an angel - thank you Doc for everything you taught me - I was able to help my mom live so much healthier for years and I tried to get her to you because western medicine didn’t believe her brain could recover. I bet you’re proving that wrong and I can’t wait til that goes public! xoxox

Was scrubbed in with a cardiologist yesterday doing a pacemaker implantation. Got to talking about the carnivore diet. He mentioned a couple physicians he knows who were quite fit and low risk for coronary disease. Both were doing the carnivore diet and wound up getting coronary bypass surgery. I know, just anecdotal, but is there anything remotely as consistently as beneficial as a Whole Foods plant based diet?

I'd like to know about that 30% of patients in the Ornish study that had future cardiac problems: how many didn't really stay strict on the diet. I'd go out on a limb and suspect most, maybe even almost all of them weren't strict. I think there are so many more benefits to eating healthy than we know about now. I don't doubt a significant amount of disease isn't totally related to diet, but we've only touched the surface of what this superpower diet can do.

I saw this Dr. Thomas Seyfried go through a lot of great cancer info to then end with saying we evolved to eat meat and that plant based vegans are extremists and eating meat is part of who we are now. Can we get a podcast with this guy and one of our rockstar vegan doctors like Milton or Barnard? That would be interesting.

I’ve passed your you tube video to three people that should really benefit from it . One person asked if the blood vessels naturally clean the plaque from the body with the diet is it more dangerous with all fat flowing round or will it naturally be excreted by the body and how does this happen
@georgiannaneller1394
@georgiannaneller1394 2 жыл бұрын
Watch some of Dr Esselstyn's videos, too. From reviewing that information, I'd say, yes, the body, safely, eliminates plaque from the arteries if you adhere to this way of eating as a lifestyle change.

INtreasting about bill clinton @ 37.50. a Macrobiotic practitioner at kushi institute, in becket showed us the letter he wrote to bill clinton and the reply from the white house. He practised chinese facial diagnosis and saw that Bill with his fast food diet was heading for a heart attack..it wasnt that hard to see if you know which organs are presented on the face for its all there what is occurring in the body and proof of the foods and lifestyle reflected. The reply he had from clinton was polite and thankful but he obviously not believing what he was being told...hence the heart failure....Great to see he has now obviously changed diet/lifestyle..otherwise he wouldnt be here now...its true we are influenced by our genetics but its 90% what we bathe our genes. this i am learning studying at CNM naturopathic medicine nutrition, im on my second year in july.

Imagine what an incredible loss to humanity it would have been if Dean Ornish had taken his life at 19 ? To anyone else out there struggling with suicidal thoughts please take note that you too could be a huge loss to humanity in the future for no-one can say the great you may come to achieve one fine day just like Dean.
